    I just shunt modded my RTX 2080 Ti. No power limit issues anymore, holds 2080MHz(what a coincidence) during gaming no problem and even holds 8200MHz on the memory as well. If I went to water cooling I could even hit 2100MHz, but as soon as it goes above 77°C it drops down to 2040MHz automatically, so temp is the limit now.

    Thx for the video! I think flashing 2 identical boards within a product line/brand makes a lot of sense. Brands put an artificial power limit on lower priced SKUs as an incentive for us to buy the more expensive ones, even though the HW is identical. You can get the most out of your card this way.
    Just pay attention that the top model you're aiming for doesn't actually have a different/better PCB. Easiest way is to check board ID in GPUZ & Techpowerup.
    I flashed my KFA2 3080 SG with GALAX 3080 EX gamer. (GALAX and KFA2 are the same brand)
    I went from a 320W to a 360W limit, not too shabby. Especially for me, in a custom water loop, the extra power will not be an issue, my GPU almost never goes past 60°C under 100% load.
    If you don't want to take risk, pay attention that the IDs match (unlike what he does here). If you look up your vbios on techpowerup, you have the option "other compatible bios" which shows you other vbios for the same PCB. You can then browse for the ones with the best power limit.
    On Nvflash 5.804 you don't need the -6 anymore when flashing. You can just type "nvflash name.rom"

    If I start going to the gym and I take my old dell Xps laptop with me (it's quite heavy) at least 5kg and I using it to pump some iron, but at the same time I have it networked to my main pc, will it make my main pc faster and a stronger overclocker? Wow what a great video. Some need to watch out since the vrms could be mismatched when cross vendor flashing... I use to make custom bios for my original Titans way back but haven't messed with anything like that in a long time. I just bought the Gigabyte Windforce RTX 2080 (non OC) and was disappointed that the power limit was a measly 111%, I am hitting that. I was under the impression that the Windforce OC version has a much higher limit. Im going to look up the cards to see if they have the same layout on the PCB/VRM's being both Windforce versions. Nice to have this refresher on how to do it especially with the different versions, write protect portion you mentioned. Great job.

    • @overclockersclub
      @overclockersclub  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You cannot BIOS edit anymore because they are encrypted now. Only solution is to flash to a different model. I do have some good news but you might want to double check my findings. First I believe the Windforce OC model is identical just with a higher power limit so that would be a easy flash. Second the Windforce is using a UP9512 VRM controller. Same as the FE and reference boards. It looks like Gigabyte just moved things around but all the essential ICs are the same. So any Reference board like the Evga XC Ultra BIOS should work too. Once again "Should" and you want to double check before taking any risks.

      @rambler6916 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@overclockersclub What I didn't realize is that the non A chips (1E82) cannot flash A chips (1E87) bios. I couldn't figure out why I kept getting mismatch device even though I was using -6 and protectoff. It does look Like I have the reference board but Im now on the search to see if I can find an 1E82 bios with a higher power limit than 111%. My chip has OC'ed quite well but when benching in TimeSpy or Superposition, it hits limit and throttles but gaming is flat lined...

    • @overclockersclub
      @overclockersclub  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmm...I've ready some people have been able to flash a non-A card to something higher. I don't have a card to test this out, but I will take your word for it.
      Also you will get mismatch error anyways if you flash to a different brand unless you use the modified NVflash that only works in Windows. www.techpowerup.com/download/nvidia-nvflash-with-board-id-mismatch-disabled/

  • @christianshull379
    @christianshull379 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    it is not true about buying the cheapest evga and flashing to the highest price evga... I purchased the 2080 ti XC Black and it has a 1E04 non A chip vs the 10 other variants of evga 2080 ti boards having 1E07 A chips I am locked at 112 power limit as the other cards did get the power limit update I'm stuck. Palit has a 1E04 card with 124 power limit I've asked evga if they can at least match their competitors but have not gotten any update yet.

    • @overclockersclub
      @overclockersclub  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Technically your are right. You can't flash a Non-A to a A BIOS. You have to do your own research on what card you buy. Sometimes these companies will switch GPU variants between batches. Nothing says they HAVE to use A Variants for OC models.

    • @overclockersclub

      No, I'm referring to the PCB design as when its changed by the vendor it can have different VRM controllers and different Mosfets. Usually both is the case making their BIOS no good for you. It may brick the card or even blow up the VRMs. Therefore unless you have a reference PCB model, you may want to research if it's possible to cross flash.

I didn't want to disable mine and then have no video, but your guide mentioned you would still have video output until you restart. So does it still let you use the card even after disabling it in device manager?

    • @overclockersclub
      @overclockersclub  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No other card in the computer, but that would work as you could just disable the card you are going to flash. But yes you will still have video if you disable the card in the device manager. All it does is disable the NVIDIA drivers which tend to freak out and the basic windows VGA take over. Most likely it will drop to 800 x 600 resolution or something low.

      Artifacts usually is a memory thing if you don't get a hard crash. So its possible those MSI Gaming X vBIOS have different memory profiles. I don't think using a different NVFLASH will help at all. The flash worked fine, it your card that doesn't like the new parameters.

    awesome guide. i didnt see anything that could go wrong flashed my Asus RTX 2080 TI Dual OC with KFA2 bios. but didn't really gain anything. my core clock sticks at 2065 no matter if i change power limit and core clock+. from the bios settings it confirms 300-380w but when running stress test i see from GPUz it tops a 280W don't know if this can be trusted or if this match up against the 300w TDP. one thing i didnt see from the guide was to do a scan for hardware change after reboot, my computer restarted to 1024x768. could the limit be because this card only have two PCIE power cables. and are unable to reach more power?

    • @overclockersclub
      @overclockersclub  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmm. Looking up the vBIOS specs for the Asus RTX 2080 TI Dual OC, I see its 260 stock with maximum of 312 Watts (after slider). The KFA2 is 300/380. With dual 8-pin PICE PEG connectors, you have more than enough extra power. Each connector can handle 384 Watts. While ATX specs officially only say 150, It's been established proven to be a very conservative number for many years now.
      When you reboot because NVIDIA see it as a new video card, the drivers are "reinstalled", but if for some reason windows does not recognize the video card at all, you also get that 1024x768 resolution and running in generic VGA mode. Hopefully you just meant that it was that resolution while the drivers reinstalled.

    I have a RTX2080 Super Founders Edition, I flashed my bios to the Asus EVO OC dual which has a 300 watt limit or 120% TDP slider. But, the performance is horrible! It is drawing 125% TDP at like 1,800Mhz. Voltage will not exceed 0.950 and the power usage is always 300+ watts even with stock settings. So, then I tried EVGA XC Ultra bios 117% same problem, then I tried the EVGA XC Black with the same issue.
    I am seeing the power usage in GPU-z, but the heat is just not there. Have you ever seen this?
    I’ve since flashed back to my original
    Bios, which is a 112%, 286watt. It runs 2,010Mhz/ 18,200Mhz memory all day.
    All I wanted was a little more power. But, these bios are working so weird! All of them. They all hit 100-120% TDP at practically less than stock clocks.

    • @overclockersclub
      @overclockersclub  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The ASUS EVO OC is a 270 Watt BIOS, not 300. So it actually lower than the founders edition. Only one that is going to be higher is XC Ultra. I believe EVGA Black is also lower.

      OverclockersClub
      The Asus Evo OC shows 315 watts power usage in GPU-Z it has a 120% slider. Vs my original bios of only peaking around 286 watts. I also tried the XC Ultra bios, this was the very first one I tried with 116% TDP slider. I am experiencing this with all of them. Power usage is maxing out almost immediately at around 1,860Mhz and GPU-Z shows power draw of around 295-300+ watts. But, the card just isn’t reflecting this, with how cool it is running around 58C. Voltages do not exceed 0.950V either. The fan stop features are nice. But, I just cannot get more than 1,905Mhz with any of these bios. I tried again with the XC Ultra bios. Clean driver install after DDU, resinstalled Nvidia drivers, reset MSI AB, and multiple restarts. With XC Ultra bios and stock clocks the card is already running 120% TDP power limiter. It makes no sense.

      Just for fun, I tried the XC Ultra bios again. The card will not exceed 1,890Mhz 0.950V and literally stays at 116-118% power limiter in RDR2 game. GPU-Z reports the accurate power draw. Around 295 watts. But, it’s almost like the card is locked to a 75% power limit or something. I’ve never seen anything like this before.

I like using cards with dual bios, makes it waaay less stressful.

    I can't flash the Asus RTX 2080 8GB Turbo EVO or The Asus RTX 2080 8GB Super Evo to a bios with a higher power limit ?
    are these cards not flashable ?
    also if you could please tell me which cars can be flashed and with what bios
    in the RTX 2080 series cards or the RTX 2080 Ti series ?
    I always get ID mismatch even when using the patched version of NVflash.
    maybe I have something wrong ?
    also how do I tell what version of GPU I have weather it's an A series or A1 series or 400 or whatever I was using GPU Z
    but not sure if that is the reason I can't flash ?
    Thank you in Advance for any advice :)

      Also GPU says that both cards I have Are TU104 A1 GPU's
      I'm trying to flash the asus turbo edition bios with the asus super edition bios
      I have 2 asus super edition GPU's and 1 asus turbo edition gpu

      Lot to unpack. First The Turbo is a Non-A. Second the Super is a different GPU and essentially the A-Variant so matter which SUPER brand or model you buy. You can find out which version you have either buy looking at the GPU die itself, or google the part number.

    is there a way that you can flash quadro bios into a geforce, like quadro rtx6000 into rtx 2080 ti, since the chip is the same and PCB looks pretty identical except the power location is different? I know it's a dangerous idea but just feel like asking...

      I have done it for past generations and bedsides the memory being more, the reference boards are the same (has been). NVIDIA figured out people where flashing GTX to Quadros and since the GTX 480 card you cannot simply flash it anymore. I mean you can and the drivers will install, but all the "benefits" of a Quadro acceleration is still disabled (it will preform the same as before). NVIDIA controls if the card is truly a quadro with a series of transistors on the board. You physically need to solder different ones on for it to see it as a real Quadro. Google "GTX 680 Quadro mod". Every generation is different but people keep figuring out the correct combo.
