Jeph Loeb... giving the real talk. Tears in my eyes.
Hey, this was great! Was cool hearing what Joe Quesada put in his portfolio. Thanks for uploading!
Hey man... this is EXACTLY what I have been looking for. Thank you so much for uploading this cause I have been trying to get into the industry desperately for the past 10 years and have had no clue how to go about it but this was extremely helpful.
You give your TH-cam audience a LOT of great information!
As an aspiring animator, I really appreciate your videos Evan! These videos are really helpful and inspiring.
You are a saint! This is info GOLD
Starting at 7:59, Jeph Loeb honestly made a valuable points. He's right about getting a job and taking a lot of patience and A LOT of rejections. Its about perseverance.
Good video. I can relate. I have been trying to break into comics for years on a professional level. It can be daunting but I will not give up. Great info in this video, thank you.
this video was so inspirational i feel inspired to get better at my art so i can be good enough to work for image comics
I really appreciate the man's advice at 8:00 , everyone is such a cynic nowadays, no one can just try to be supportive or keep their mouths shut.
Thank you so much for this video. I'm glad they mentioned Deviant Art, I wasn't sure if any major comic company looked at that site.
Great video!.(& I really mean that!) This is the 3rd video I've looked up on this information & it's the only one I've seen that's clear & consise clear video & I can actually hear what the panelist are say'n! & I couldn't get that with the other video's & Really Super Helpfull advise from Joe Quesada! Thanks again for the Great upload!!!

There is a website that uploads Indie comics, art and short stories to promote aspiring writers and artists. The url to their site is in their twitter: twitter.com/CaptionComix. Email them if you want your work featured on the website.
Great video, thank you for sharing the information!
@cartoonblock Hey I just found your channel and subscribed instantly. I will now attempt to recreate every drawing you have done, which I hope will teach me how to draw haha. Anyways, I really like your style of drawing and would love to see a tutorial on Aang from Avatar the Last Airbender. Keep up the good work.
Whoa. That was a crazy intro.. Who ever did it for you, that was pretty awesome! :D
Thanks for the video on this kind of thing though. Happy holidays! :)
This will definitely help thanks CB
The beginning where the car just randomly comes down crashing sent my sister and i on the floor laughing like crazy...!! lol :)
Awesome App there! hehee! I wish I had an iphone to do that on. :p
Anyways thanks for the cool panel you recorded. I have been considering doing a manga someday. I am just trying to get the characters more developed and a plot to the story that would make it interesting to readers. I should send some pictures I have your way and write a letter to ya! I use to write Mark Kistler when he was on the air on PBS every afternoon when I was a kid. :D
That was great video and just a few hours before my bday I'm so happy now
you`re so awesome! thank you sooo much for helping us so much :D God bless you :)
You mean Joe Kubert's correspondence course isn't gonna cut it? Awww...😢.
Very instructive video!
Do you think its possible to make a video on breaking into the animation/cartooning industry one day like the tips that were given for this one,but for future cartoonists?
Thanks for uploading great insight!!! I'm
Currently going to school for animation do u have any tips for a portfolio for animators any thing will help!!! An also can you do a vid about how u got in to animation??? Thanks again!!!! An keep the vids coming!!!
This was super helpful
Great vid! I have a question for you and maybe you could point me in the right direction on this. I’m just a regular dude that grew up reading comics( my collection is not that big 3k),I drew as a teen but I’m no where near a professional (also urban amateur graffiti in the 80’s), I was a Dj(Hip Hop was highly influenced by comics), a producer(Remix for Kool G Rap is my most relevant project), a recording engineer(not for long because a real job with benifits works better for a family), who has a vision. I don’t know what to call myself but I want to “License “ an old franchise that no one else has done and print it in comics as well as digital stories. I want to hire a writer, penciler, inker, colorist,&letterer, and produce a 6 issue run with variants for each book and introduce it in full with some original actors from the movie as well as the writing/artists crew at a comic con giving out the first issue #0 signed by all and selling subsequent issues and signatures. How do I go about licensing? What kind of deal is a good license deal? What would be the percentage that is acceptable? Should I produce the product and then go for the license? And lastly: What is my role in this? Am I a CEO ? A dude with an idea that coordinates the book? What am I? I am having trouble finding any information on the type of thing I want to do. I’m not a writer, artist, editor, or anything that fits into what making a comic book is. I’m just a dude with an idea who wants to make it reality.
I want to work for DC comics when I'm older ... Unfortunately I don't believe I'm yet anywhere near that skill level but I'll keep trying . This has really helped me though :)
The beginning was cool
Thanks man, this vid helps alot!
Dark horse seems to give you more freedom to do your own work. marvel and dc have huge names in the biz and your work would get lost amongst the mix (My opinion) and viz does a lot of manga, and a lot of new stuff, so with that you get in were you fit in.
iv'e seen a couple of stan vids myself. How to draw the marvel way when i was child. but stan seems like a nice guy to have a coffee and chat with while talking about comics and art. these guys not so much.
wow, how cool was that intro!
Who would I want to work for is a tough question... This is actually the largest hurdle I have in my artistic pursuits that always seem to trip me up. I am worried I will hate drawing once it becomes my "Job". I would love to just work for myself? Or if I would have to, decide on one, Shonen Jump (VIZ media), Akira Toriyama, Masashi Kishimoto, Tite Kubo, Eiichiro Oda, and that is just the artists from VIZ that I look up to.
excellent video i liked the quite stay in the dream your agenda is to chase your dream thankyou for sharing love your channel happy new year blessing from ireland
Very good advice
Sorry for those in the comment section who are dc/marvel fans but good luck getting into the big two with the way things are going down hill for the industry
Great vid, I subbed
dude can u pleasssee do a solid snake tutorial or splinter cell tutorial? thnx bro for all ur hard work!
thanks alot for the video, but i really wonder how to involved with cartoons, writting for shows, and character designing
on deviantart there is a digital artist call art germ who lives in singapore he has done work for dc and marvel his name is stanley lau
I want to work for DC and publish my own superhero there. If that doesn't work I want to work at Marvel.
So when try to get in dc or marvel, u want to make your own story on spider man or batman, in your portfolio, or do u come up with your own hero?
Awesome vid
That app looks sick!
@cartoonblock what should I do if I want to get in into a school of the arts?
I just took notes :D
@BeckaBeck21 I thought VIZ only licensed manga? I don't think they publish original manga.
I'd love to work for Dark Horse Comics or Viz Media. I'm actually working on stories to start sending off to them in hopes of getting something in the door.
i don't care where i work, i just want the world to see my drawings and read my stories :)
I Would Love To Either Work For Viz Or Marvel... They Are Both Amazing Companies And It Would Be A Pleasure To Work For Them.
I'm working on a sample page as I watch this
thank u for the advice
dark horse and viz is what i am aiming for
I read the comic. I'm on the fence about it (It's still a pretty cool and informative read). I understand that it's meant to show the worst as an example of what not to do but I'm sad that there is no happy ending at all. :/
well i know who i want to work for viz or shonen jump. plus nice effect my little sister thought it was real
hmm after seeing this vid... i have concluded.. You have a great channel and i am glad i subd ^__^ other mark crilly there are really no subs i go look into lol
I would work for any comic / manga publisher that would take me. Not that I hold no value for myself but I love the art form. Only thing that would vary is the rate of pay = how much time i could spend doing it. I would work for free but couldn't spend all of my time doing it. Have to pay the bills,
I want to work for either Viz Media, Dark Horse or Yen Press. Hopefully my manuscript will impress them ;D
Marvel these days is very odd. They seem to hire very questionable artists (see Squirrel Girl). I just wish Joe was still Editor in Chief at Marvel. Despite the one more day thing, he had a big part in saving Marvel from bankruptcy
Everytime I watch a video or read something online about 'breaking into the industry' I always hear things like "Hey, this is how you become a writer" or "This is what I did to get this inking job for....." yada yada.
What about the guys with the complete package? Those who write as well as illustrate and have some finished original content to publish as comics? what do those guys do?
Probably Dark Horse or Viz Media because their works are so diverse
@eManga7 another fellow aiming for an anime! let us tip our hats and wish one another luck! to the manga drawing!
This is neither of those (comics or manga) but it's in the same area sort of as it deals with drawn characters that (hopefully and usually) become animated; I'd love to work at FUNimation. Not even sure what I'd like to do there; heck, a peon assistant job would still seem pretty cool since I'm in an environment full of all the anime shows I love and the people there seem pretty friendly, if the videos here on TH-cam are anything to go by.
I'm sorry if you were really in a car wreck, but is that really something to put in a comic panel video?
@TheroMakepe Didn't Tokyopop go Bankrupt?
Now I feel I can join the comic industry even tho im 16....but how can I join the industry if I'm in Singapore? Is there a possibility that I can mail my art or something plz someone help me thanks..
Evan's my boy.
