I read the online copy/ (preview?) of ReMind 1 it is excellent work and inspiring. Great story and really well-executed art, there is a distinct and very effective balance of expression and technique. I can tell that dues were paid to get there and it was a rewarding read.
Craziest thing happened. I was searching the internet for 'graphic novel blogs', and ended up on Jason Brubaker's reMIND blog. I was browsing through his posts and suddenly I get an update from my youtube subscriptions that you uploaded a new video. You can imagine my surprise when I saw the title haha! It's gotta be destiny! ;-) Anyway, great vid and great artist. Thanks for sharing, Evan!
You need skills firstly. But more than that you need to want it REALLY bad. If you don't have the passion to keep going after the first fifty failures, you won't make it to the first success. If it is something you really want, just don't give up. You can do it!
Really inspiring, but I wish Jason had gone into detail about how he gathered together an audience online. He said he got tips and it would have been useful to know what those were. Thanks Evan and Jason, good vid!
That is the job I would love to do! Videos like this inspire me to keep drawing everysingle day. In the past I have once thought bout quitting drawing and stuff but i realized my talent has been given to me for a reason. Thanks evan for uploading these videos you are my inspiration to keep drawing! :)
Loved the interview with Jason brubaker, and how well do comics magazine, I will follow his advice ... it has become a web page as one of my favorite ... Congratulations! Through his work, hope it can make a matter of comics artists here in Brazil, here is an idea of the agenda .. ok?!
hey! When are you going to start another contest? I've just discovered your channel and i think it is really cool, you're doing a great job! Keep going, nice tutorials!
Inspirational!!!! This is the classic example of setting your sights then going for it! I'm working on drawing and inking people and just now backgrounds. But how do you write a script in order to put ideas together on creating drawings (shots)?
I know this is late but I think you already got it but, when your creating a script it's a visualization of how it's going to be made so it's like a story of how you want to position your characters and your people or animal or fantasy character which is pretty good.
Oh, ok. Cool. My 10 year old son challenged me to write, illustrate, and publish a graphic novel. With that being said, I didn't know where to start as far as writing a script. I have an outline but that's it. Now, I have a starting point. Also, I bought "The DC Comic Guide to Writing Comic Books". With your input and with a little bit of reading and research, I think I'll have a working copy of my script. I will pass on more info as I go along with my writing.
I would say yes, it is still a comic book. A graphic novel is usually a lot longer (100+ pages) and presents a whole story. They are not necessarily published periodically. It can just be one graphic novel and that's it. They can be hardback like a proper novel. And they can be very expensive too. But really...it is mainly a "posh comic book".
Is it possible to do the same thing with a website like "CreateSpace" where you can get them to print it on demand so you don't have to send them out yourself? Are there any downsides to that method?
Can you give me the website for KickStarter? I have a story that I would like to possibly get published and I am researching publishing companies or now I have the inspiration to get it self published.
MZJ it depends, there are schools but if you are a book illustrator, skills and someone who is willing to pay. For animator, you can make a company, but to work for Cartoon Network,. Yes,. You do need animation.
hey Evan You inspired me to start making videos and was hoping if u can give me a start and get the word out it sure would be great hope u can help me.
very helpful!
Whyt Manga indeed.
I like the way you put this video together. I liked that you showed how he got his books packaged, instead of just having the dialogue.
