The minimum wage in the USA is $15 per hour. The government and the NLC need to understand the concept of minimum wage as practiced in developed economies. Their negotiation always centers around those who are government employees who are salary earners. The idea of minimum wage is that anyone employed by any employer, even a house girl or sales assistant, will be paid the minimum wage.
It's an insult from government, not a stalemate. N48k slave wage while approving N90B for Hajj. What an insult!

Having said all that have been said by Mr. Benson Upah (even though he isn't articulate enough). The aspect of using the Intl benchmark is a welcome yardstick because how can one explain how our public officials in corridors of power earn more than their counterparts in other climes? Yet such isn't applied to the minimum wage.

To cater to an average family of 6 in a month on a well balanced meal only,(not including either transport fare to work for parents and to school for child(ren)) is nothing less than #100k!

Minimum wage - N48k. Family of 2. Husband and Wife will make N96k.
Budget:
N25k to N30k per month - Housing (Rent N300k - N360k)
Food - N10k per week (N40k)
Energy - N10k per month
Transportation - N20k per month (N5k per week)
Internet - N5k per month
Savings - N20k per month
If you want to have kids, make more money first...You cant be at the very bottom and be having kids.
For Single folks, Rent a ROOM and cut the expenses above by HALF
US Minimum wage is $7.25 which is $1,160 for 160 hours and you cannot even pay that to those working in Agriculture, Bars or Servers and so on.
That $1,160 cannot pay rent in some areas in the US, so a single person will likely do the following as well
Housing - A Room - $400
Energy - $50
Transportation - $100
Internet - $50
Food - $400
Savings $100
Phone - $60
To get more and do more, you must get 2 jobs or 3 jobs.

Why not the federal government make it a round figure. Either 50,000 or 60,000.Nigerians should stop comparing their economy with the foreign country. What is Nigeria producing or how many production companies we have to generate income. Federal government cannot even pay 100,000 not that the resources is not there but they don't care about the poor masses

The reason for that insult is because you are very wicked to yourself and to others as well. They send you come? 50k and 48k what is the difference if you are not wicked to yourself? Even 60k is extremely too poor.
Please tell me how much is self-contained and two bedrooms flat in a month in your place? Or maybe you live in a free family house and your parents are still feeding you or probably you are into cybercrime and see the minimum wage as a bonus.
I stayed Ughelli Delta State, a manageable self-contained is within 15k to 20k in a month and is very hard to even find one. Two bedrooms flat is within 25k to 35k in a month some are even more than that. To be honest with ourselves minimum wage should be at least 100k to 150k, in fact 150k last.
In my place here rubber of garri is 4k, Rice 7k Beans 5k, today i bought fuel for 850 Naira, 35cl coco bottle of engine oil is 1,200 Naira. Today your 100 Naira note is useless and 200 Naira is almost on its way out. Oh no am not sure you are in this country.

No one outside NLC and Government can reach or suggest a minimum wage. I totally disagree with Rufai with his presumptuous suggestions. When NLC sits with the government, they will look at self-influcted arrears giving the government problems. They may sensibly conclude that 1. Cost of government MUST be drastically cut down. 2. The National Assembly MUST be sanitised by drastically cutting the wealth of the nation going down the drains there. Crude oil theft STOPPED. Productions ENHANCED. SECURITY taken seriously. CORRUPTION must attract CAPITAL punishment. LOOTED money MUST be recovered. No more IMMUNITY for some, like in China etc.
With all these and many similar steps, NLC and Government will come out with smiles, and workers will be happy.
I wonder what Rufai Oseni’s salary is. I am a single man, and my bills alone monthly before food are over 250k Naira a month.
