- The foundation that determines how well a worker's wage sustains him or her is the economy. If the economy is thriving, it doesn't matter the quantum of minimum wage, workers will be able to meet their basic needs. Our key objective going into negotiations is to protect jobs and we feel our offer of N57,000 will keep employees in employment till the economy improves

The minimum wage includes private businesses also it you think a janitor or cleaner or waitress is worth 600k you are not alright

@@souphysouphy8280 Janitors are unskilled workers, minimum wage is for the bottom barrel of any worker to earn. You don't expect restaurants to pay waiter 600k without going out of business or companies pay their drivers without going bankrupt. Just say you don't understand the economy
The economy is not stable and getting poorer everyday.
The best way forward is to make the economy better of take it back to the way Buhari left it, then increase the minimum wage.

In Senegal here who served where they are selling food 10am to 7pm is being paid 35k in CFA which is 70k in niara
When get to the bridge we all will cross surely its getting more interesting and closer to the end , ultimately this man is not in Nigeria and this is what they do across all company to keep worker's down to elevate their children so the poor can continue to lament you see is comfortable.
I think a rounded figure like 60k would suffice. A minimum wage is the nearest minimum for a worker like those with just O’level certification and unskilled. We should not mix that up with graduates who already earns above that. Also, something important that people are not talking about is that the minimum wage always have a bubble effects on the salary structure. Take for instance, the bank teller, cashier and some supervisors don’t even earn 500k on a monthly basis. So NLC is insisting on around 500k for minimum wage for O’level holder like security, will that not have ripple effects on the salary earned by others? So how will any company survive that? Even the past 30k minimum wage passed the last time, many states in Nigeria don’t even pay and Labour couldn’t effect the implementation cos the most they can do is go on strike. The same govt is what you are not expecting to pay 500k that is day dreaming and outrageous. I can bet whatever minimum wage is passed now, many state govt will still not pay it and the implementation will have no effect. The same govt still owing salaries with just 30k salary across board. It’s a shame!

what is the % of Nigerian govt workers and what is private sector,deduct it from Nigerian who are currently working and please tell us how realistic what labour is asking for?same govt workers are part of people who are colluding with politicians and sabotaging so many critical infrastructures that ordinarily would have helped in making life better at this critical period of our economy. The private sectors are the real major stakeholder..not the striking NLC.
It's really not easy for employers of labor and also for employees in the Nigeria system. I was on the side of organized labor higher minimum wage, but, after listening to this gentleman's summation, I've come to the realization that every parties should shift their grounds. Govt. should stop spending "anyhow" for themselves and put citizens ahead of their personal interest
When it comes to pay workers govt. can't pay but they can pay and waste billions on politicians. The per annum cost of a USA senator $754,000 which is highest in the world apart from a Nigerian senator with $2,835,000. Isn't this madness. Yet it's not too much. Also the billions stollen with impunity. The leaders are more human than the followers. Can N57,000 keep a family of four in a month. When a senator takes over N30,000000 a month. HOW FAIR.

is one thing for Labour to increase minimum wage, it is another thing for employers to implement it.
In as much as i want a better minimum wage, NLC should come down from their high horse. How do busineses pay the minimum worker 590,000 and still survive? It will mean mass retrenchment, mass unemployment and slave labour.
Nigeria is truly fantasticaly amazing when it comes to intrest representation at defferent levels , the government and its beneficiaries are fighting to protectect their interest. The private sector and its beneficiaries are also defending their interest. The labour is trying to make sure that they are also well represented.
Just imaging the government sudenly increase the electricity tarif having given their so aclaimed reasons though. In my opinion its because they realized that private sector is making much more from the current comodity price hike trend and decides to solve their own personal issues through the tarif hike and now also increasing the interest rate, it will interest you to know that the main target of that hike is not the commonn man but business. They are all lying to themselves, A government that intentionally creates financial gap among its citizenry is playing with fire, such a system is non sustainable. It may seem unrealistic what the labour congress is demanding but at the same time lets take a cretical look at the system and try to understand the dynamics and you would see that the nigerian government can do even better. Take away sentiments or where anyone falls on this table. this nigeria belongs to all of us.

Why are we negotiating like this, both labor and government are just somehow, both of them should present reasonable proposals, put in the high cost of living and this government both the federal state and local are not even sufficiently funded talk less of paying the said amount at a consistent basis, God help us, i blame the government for all this due to their policies

Bro price of gas is almost as expensive as countries whose minimum is equivalent to 1million a month. If the government wants people to pay that much for gas then the minimum has to be equally high
