this camper is suuuuper old and it looks like it was parked under water for the last 2 years....did i just make a big mistake? :)

I can see why you were attracted to it...under the grime it has a very neat shape, no hole or rips, and I love that door. Love the aggressive music while cleaning !

Having to gut all interior systems means you can install all modern stuff. Modern batteries, lights, cooking facilities...

I recently inherited my uncle's old RV. At first, it always seems like a great project. After breaking down 3 times trying to get it home, paying 2000$ for new brakes, tires, and working on it in 36 degree weather, AND gutting the entire thing only to realize the roof needs to be replaced.... It is a little overwhelming. But I will keep pushing through. Your adorable little camper cleaned up REALLY nicely! I hope you enjoy using it as much (or more) than working on it. Cheers!

@@robloxianashleyy2188 the project took a sharp turn. Unfortunately, the camper walls and floor were too far gone to save. I stripped the entire RV down to bare chassis, and put a 41 Ford truck cab on it. It will take some time to finish, but it will be worth it in the long run. I'm still dreaming of camping. It will just be a bit different.

I’m addicted to them too. I’m 70 and when my parents were building their house in the 40’s they lived in a airstream in what would be the backyard. Pomona Calif. after the house was done, the airstream became our playhouse, and I’ve loved them ever since. I can’t afford to but one OR fix one up. But I sure love them and love to watch trailers getting new life!

I feel you how you connected with old antique stuffs. I also do preferred old stuffs that are made very good and durable long lasting usage. Thank you so much for sharing your very skillful work, it's easier said than done. From now on I will regularly watch your videos and will tell and show my son how your work is done. My son is a Seabee ( builder) of the US Navy for 14yrs now.. We live here in Illinois, USA. I was in W. Germany for a couple of years, however no knowledge of camper vans. If it hasn't been on the road for 5-10 years, used on the road, then is there a VIN or something? Do you need some sort of certificate from the DMV equivilent to actually use it on the road? Non-Germans are curious.
I know you're going to throw some solar panels on the top, and run 12/24v electrics, right?
It's AMAZING what a couple days of cleaning did to the appearance.
Don't apologize for fixing up a camper. Honestly too few people nowadays work with their hands and will just throw older stuff away. It seems to becoming a forgotten thing that the true conservation starts with reusing and repairing. That camper looks amazing cleaned up on the outside lol

Here in Australia, they're going nuts over old caravans and even the smaller ones. Hell, people are paying good money for what's bearly a shell of a caravan from the '50's.

Go solar! I imagine that the base would be great with a low profile battery pack under the floor. A bit bigger than those tiny 6AH Makita LXT packs anyway! ;-)
Yes! Build battery boxes into the base frame for all the batteries. That will give the camper a low center of gravity.
