I have / had a friend, a Jehovah's Witness, born into it. At the time, I did not know how dangerous the JW cult was. Later, I learned that he was horribly treated by his congregation, particularly about his sexuality. He attempted to emasculate himself (remove his penis and scrotum) with a knife because he saw his genitals as the source of his 'sinfulness'. He often talked about suicide. He tried to leave the organisation many times, but his 'brothers' in the congregation would track him down, wherever he was, and harangue him to rejoin. Sadly, I have lost touch with him, and I don't know how he is doing now. I hope he is well and has left the 'church'... This cult is EVIL.

I was an Elder for 17 years. I was converted to a JW after meeting this 23 Yr old Jehovah Witness and I was a stupid 24 yr old. She was pretty and had the body of a model…. typical 24 year idiot I was. We got married and had 2 sons before all hell broke loose. She did not have a green card and was in the US illegally and I only found out after we got married. At the end of the day, she became an American Citizen because of me. So much for her deceptive “falling in love”. I stayed in the loveless marriage for a total of 17 years because I didn’t want to leave my boys despite having countless of women wanting me to file for divorce and get married. I finally filed for divorce after the 17 years. However, my oldest is still in the religion and does not speak to me. My youngest son is not in the religion, but the divorce affected so much 10 years agon when he was 15 yrs old, he developed friendships with a bunch of low-life guys and had a lot of legal issues. I tried helping him but to no avail. I now have my personal relationship with the TRUE god and asking him to help me and my sons. One broken heart if difficult, but because of this religion I am now living with 3. These commentaries are the only source I have now to keep me focused and that I did the right thing. I just cant stop waking up each day the thought of the biggest mistake I made as a 24 year old and may have to live with this for the rest of my life.
