What I love the most about the song is the transition from two caterpillars to two butterflies in the lyrics. It reflects the sense growth in the song. Great reaction! It’s my favorite song from the movie!

That is my absolute favorite part as well, we all start out as caterpillars and through change (sometimes painful) we grow into chrysalis and then to butterflies. Ya son milagros, rompiendo chrisalidas...you're a miracle already, breaking through...makes me cry every time! And so true.

Yes!! After the crescendo in final verse the lyrics changed from “orugitas” to “mariposas” and OMG THAT ABSOLUTELY BROUGHT ME TO TEARS. The music was very symbolic of a butterfly emerging from its cocoon, and the lyrics mirrored it perfectly.

As someone who is a native Spanish speaker but also speaks English very well (I grew up speaking both languages) I honestly 127% prefer the Spanish version of the song, not only because it’s the original version but because in a way the words make more sense and the song has more meaning, and I feel that it has a lot more emotions than the English version.

    fun fact:
Under the Sea from The Little Mermaid was the song that inspired 9-yr old Lin-Manuel Miranda to become a song writer. He named his son "Sebastian" after the character. I believe that Under The Sea snippet in Dos Oruguitas was his way to pay homage to his childhood inspiration.

I'm from Spain. "Oruguita" is "little caterpillar". Just "caterpillar" is "oruga". For names we usually add at the end "-ita" (female) or "-ito" (male) when we want to say something is little. Sometimes said as literally little, and other times as a loving/affectionate way of calling it. That's why in the movie also Casita is "Little house" (in a loving way) or Antoñito/Toñito are ways of saying "Little Antonio" (both literally little and in a loving way) :)

I can see why Alma (Abuela) became the way she did. She was thrusted into a role of someone the towns people look to for guidance. Nor did she ever get to have proper closure over Pedro's death or truly brought herself to do so. Plus the candle, Casita, and the gifts are pretty much her only lasting connection with him so she just ended up with tunnel vision.
After watching the movie again I realized Mariano kind of looks a lot like Pedro and Isabella a younger Alma. So in a way it's really depressing why Abuela is most likely projecting herself on Isabella in getting her to marry Mariano/ having her be perfect. Heck. I noticed the earrings both she and Isabella wear are also quite similar.

It makes me feel so patriotic towards Colombia and I’m not even from there. (It’s sung in Spanish so you’ll need to find one with English subtitles.) If you don’t want to deal with Encanto anymore I’d recommend “Say Goodbye to the Holiday” from My Little Pony: FIM, it’s such a great villain song. It would be great if you could come back to this particular song after you watch the movie. The song is moving by itself and now that you know what it means, the scene might be even more powerful. I hope you enjoy Encanto!

This song is really relatable to me. It hurts but is kinda cathartic. I definitely hold on to the past too tight and have a fear of loss/ change/ time moving on. I know at some point that me and my brother will move from our parents house and it makes me sad and a little scared even though good things will come in the future.
And of course the scene in the movie was so sad 😭
Also I'm glad you reacted to the Spanish version too :)

By now I would say... Yeah, totally watch the movie!
When you listen to the songs in the context of the film... Especially THIS one aside the animations and the story told... It's just awesome.
When Encanto premiered in cinema 11/21 I wasn't able to watch it (because all our local cinemas are closed due to gov regulations) and had to hold on until christmas to finally watch the movie.
So for me, it was the oopposite to you. I tried to avoid any spoilers on the film by putting all the reactions, reviews, song-videos, theories, etc. in a playlist and watch them after I saw the movie 3 times in a row (english OV, spanish for fun and the next day on german with my family).
Listening to the songs for the first time, aside the animation and in context with the whole story just made my laugh and cry on every song throughout... and still is.

In the movie, you can see how each song is a form of bridge to every sequence in the story. It wraps a part of an event to transport into another. It is all connected which really makes it so relatable. Props to all the people that made an effort in this movie; to the Cast, Animators, Directors, The Musicians, etc... Thank you for giving us this masterpiece.

You should also listen to it while watching the clip! Is really more powerful with everything that is shown in that moment. Especially considering it’s showing a real life Colombian conflict, showing the forced displacement that still happens to a lot of people. In this case in the scene is showing it through the Thousand day war and “La violencia”, two devastating civil wars in Colombia. Also how the caterpillar growing into a butterfly shows hope from that conflict. That things do change and get better. Is also pretty powerful considering butterflies, especially yellow butterflies, which are the ones that are shown in the scene, are a symbol for hope and love in Colombian culture. Truly a powerful and beautiful song and scene.

This scene in the movie almost got me to cry, I rate it just bellow the montage from Up! So I am slightly disappointed that you didn't get to see the visuals for it, but at least you weren't spoiled for the movie!
I recommend checking out "Better Then You" from Camp Camp (with the clip preferably), and Song of Raindrops from Shoujo Shuumatsu Ryokou (Also with the clip if possible)!

I’m native English speaking but pretty fluent in Spanish at this point. To me this song has so many meanings expressed beautifully through both music & lyrics (more so in Spanish). It seems to speak of transition whether in a romance (the most simplistic), growing & changing & adapting throughout life, & even the transition at death.
