I took the Toyota hybrid course before I retired. Most of what the instructor said was; "Put it in service mode, and don't touch anything with an orange wire!" Good advice.
Even cooler is the fact that the battery is a series of much lower voltage cells in series. I’ve worked on some of the Prius battery packs and replaced individual cells after disassembling the battery. Actually use an RC car Li-Po charger to equalize the cells afterwards. It’s not really that hard, but does require training, proper procedures and most of all patience.
I have to give mad props to you for choosing to be a Ford tech, professionally. I would rather beat my head against a cinderblock wall than work on anything built by Ford in the last 25 years. Especially the last 10 years or so. I'm not exactly a big fan of General Motors either, but oh well. I mean, some of the SVT stuff is pretty sweet I must say. When I was a younger man, back in 1998 I bought a 98 Ford Contour SVT, and that old 2.5 Duratec with the SVT touch was a bulletproof motor, and I had enough sense to get the 5 speed manual trans. The Automatics they were mating with those engines were not worth a damn though. A few years later, I think I had 2 more Contours that I bought super dirt cheap cause the automatics in them were shot and neither one had a 1st gear anymore. And I'd say the 96 SVT Cobra was a pretty special car, along with the Mercury Marauders were pretty awesome. Pretty much anything with the 32 valve version of the (Modular) mod motor. I even liked the old original F150 Lightnings, back before that meant electric.
I've worked on the hybrid escapes when I use to be at my local Ford dealer. No one else would touch them. Most of the complaints were poor fuel economy. Out here in Arizona, 9.5 times out of 10, that rear A/C filter you showed the location of (at about 2:50) is completely blocked, preventing airflow going into the battery pack to cool it. This causes the computer to sense an overheat issue, sets codes, and defaults to using just the gas engine. The fix? Replace the filter, clear the codes, and the system should be functional again (unless there are other issues). Once the other guys caught on, everybody wanted to do hybrid maintenance...until the battery pack needed to be opened...
I got to thinking! Yes, rare for me, but I have rode an electric scooter and wheelchair for some years. This gives me certainty, I don't want an electric car!!!!! Gasoline! Gasoline! ⛽ Vroom! Vroom!
How do you know if the blower fans are bad? Need a special scanner, or can you run it with the covers off to have access to the fans? Also, should they run all the time or on a thermostat?
@@PaulLetourneau-b4cyup the code would be the giveaway. You may also be experiencing a lack of power on acceleration. All you really need is Forscan lite or Forscan for the computer.

As someone with this Stop Safely Now P0A81 code happening on my 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid, can you tell me what is actually wrong with the car and what part i'd need to fix it? I don't trust the place I took the car - do you recommend a dealership or a Hybrid Specialist?
This video literally shows you how to replace and fix everything because of the very code that you're dealing with I'm not sure how much more I can explain things or what you're asking
To be honest with you I have no freaking clue I think it's maybe to keep electrical interference out of the connections or maybe like you said something to do with gases I don't know
ugh... not to what you do. very professional. but tech like this certainly keeps anyone from being able to buy a used car. on the bright side? cars/trucks are such technological nightmares, there's no need for replacement parts. unless ball joints and tie rods are now made so poorly, the car/truck wont even be on the road for ten years. yeah, i'm old. give me an old 350 with a manual fuel pump and at best hei ignition. no offence.. i mean that. but i suppose if cars/trucks were still made like that. you'd be outta a job. built enough engines/trans. where i know whether they have been 'broken into or not'. but even my 01 silverado is still 100% factory. 250k and just a couple break lines, front calipers, front and rear rotors and fuel pump. general maintenance, easy and cheap. 21 years, hard working miles. too bad it's a michigan truck. can't keep up with the salt. former owner plowed with it.. oh well..

Just so you guys know the standard time for this is 3.1 hours
How do you diagnose if the fan is busted versus just needing a cleaning?
How do you know if the blower fans are bad? Need a special scanner, or can you run it with the covers off to have access to the fans?
Also, should they run all the time or on a thermostat?
I'd have to look at the diagrams tomorrow remind me in the a.m.
So I guess we should see code P0A81 or P0A96 if the fans are bad.

Do you have any information about how to charge and test the individual cells if the battery is opened up?
Which way is the air flow for the air filter?
