Want to find an old/broken HCU off of another vehicle, and break it down to see what its actually made up of. Can't find a blowout diagram for it either. Hard to believe something so small, has such a high price tag. Even more so, when the shit was designed with tech that is more than ten years old now. Be a great biz to set up, refurbing old ones, or building outright new and improved ones. For all anyone knows, its a 30 cents stuck seal inside the case, or a 10 cent fuse that succumbed to heat.
Or they could at least create a work around, where the engine alone charges the battery, and you can disengage the front wheel regen, to allow the ABS to function off the engines charge alone. Less efficient, much more safe. Nothing like driving a box, and having the wheels lock up on a curved freeway exit ramp during thunderstorm in traffic. Good way to see if the heart's still beating.

That and working in the freezing weather make you a very honest and top-notch service tech. in my book. Also, I've also seen your Houdini skills in person with getting to difficult to reach parts. So glad things are going successfully for you; but I know it is not without a lot of hard work.

Thanks for the vid FTM. 2008 FEH started for a few then stopped. I was sure it was the fuel pump cuz I didn't hear it but it turns out the fuel pump was super quiet and it worked fine. So I hooked up ForScan and it was showing p0726. Messing around with it and cranking for so long caused the hybrid battery to go dead so I pressed the charge button a few times like you suggested in a previous video, thanks, and then it started fine. P0726 corresponds to a not matching RPMs between the TCM and the PCM indicative of possibly a crankshaft position sensor so I replaced that anyway. Working okay so far. Also seems to be using a lot of oil possibly PCV valve or hose leak not sure but I have heard that that PCV hose leak can cause this thing to shut down also.

The fuel pump is so easy to get too on Ford Escape Hybrid's. One peek and seeing it was drilled out to repair the positive connector should have been a red flag. They went through the time to change the Hi volt battery and all the testing and replacing on all the hybrid parts and just overlooked a Fuel pump that had corrosion and "temp" repair.
I could understand if they had to drop the fuel tank to inspect this but all they had to do is lift up the rear seat. I have gone through a few repairs that I have only seen once on some models in my 35+ years, so I know this happens. Not making excuses for the other tech's but stuff like this gets all of us at least once in our career.

I do this type of repairs daily in the city I live in. It never fails that the type repair they did in the past will always come back to haunt you. Why would anyone run a unsealed thru wire into the pump assembly and then create a possible spark condition by twisting wires together? If you are to run a follow up video on the way it should be repaired , show everyone how to solder and heat shrink the connections. NO BUTT CONNECTORS. And also only use a factory Ford pump.

    • @FordTechMakuloco

This vehicle has a dual speed mechanical returnless system so in essence it only has two speeds low and high so at idle to mid throttle the pcm may only request low speed operation where as 3/4 throttle or higher it would request high speed operation. This is all computed by the pcm based on the calculated load the engine is under which in most case is tp sensor, maf sensor and rpm.

I own a 2010 Ford Fusion hybrid! A week ago I was driving on the highway and the car shut off going 90mph with a red triangle saying stop safely now and a solid check engine light . I pull over, turn the car off, turn it back on & everything is gone & it says ready to drive. So now I’m driving under 40mph cause I’m scared but it dose it again & again every 5-10 minutes. Then the past two days I have been driving around without a problem until today I was getting on the highway & the same thing happened again. I tried to put it in neutral & restart the car without pulling over but the steering wheel locked so I had no choice but to pull over. I don’t know why it’s doing this and I’m getting so many different answers online. Just thought I would see what people have to say about this! Thank you!

Hi @FordTechMakuloco. I have a 2009 FEH. Just turned 100K on all original equipment New Years Day 2022. I had a P030 DTC and replaced all ignition coils and plugs, cleared DTCs. Runs great now. However, there is significant blow by on the oil filler tube and dipstick. No knocking, smooth idle - drives normal. And no codes. It may have been like this all along but I just happened to check after startup after replacing coils and plugs. Before I do a compression and leak down test, I want to look down the cylinders with pistons at bottom. But for the tests, what is the proper procedure for getting the vehicle in a crank diagnostics mode since the HV Battery sends current toe h generator motor to turn the ICE? A video on this would be awesome ! Thanks! By the way, - what is the story behind. "Makuloco" ?

Wondering if you have a video on instruction for flushing the engine and ME coolant for 08 hybrid escape? I haven't been able to find any information anywhere with details. Would appreciate your advice. Thank you!

Is the Escape the same as the new Maverick? I'm surprised there is a single throttle body instead of direct injection. I don't have a problem with it, I like the simplicity of the throttle body.
That loose wire back by the fuel tank bothered me. Did you solder it up?

I don't understand. I know nothing about hybrids but when you asked the question, "how do we know the engine didn't start", the first words out of my mouth were, "low RPM". Since the fuel pump had failed previously and had been piss poor rigged, why wouldn't any decent tech suspect it. I know some half assed mechanic had done the rig and maybe even charged for a new pump and not told anyone but the fact still remains that the pump had failed previously and the symptoms should have been identical. You used common sense and experience to determine this quickly so it affirms my knowledge that there are a fair share of crappy mechanics working on cars. No wonder I do almost all work on my cars.

"All very simple". If you're savvy with the system. A big IF. This is why I keep my 60s Triumph and my 92 Miata around.

On the hybrid, if the fuel pump is bad will it not even allow the car to turn over?

My friend had a an early Fusion Hybrid that had the same symptoms.FMC had the car in their repair facility longer than the customer's home .Ford could not find an honest fix and gave my bud a great trade on an Eco Boost Fusion. He's tickled to death with his new Fusion...the Hybrid Fusion disappeared.

My son has a 2012 Ford Escape Hybrid that is getting intermittent "Stop Safely Now" messages that disable the vehicle. No Codes are found. A Hybrid Repair Shop recharged the Hybrid Battery and it worked for a month. Before that a shop that didn't have a Hybrid Trained Tech replace the Service Plug and that fixed the vehicle for several months (not sure why).
I see that you use software to upgrade the Control Modules. Is this software available for DIY Tech's and if so where would I get the software.

ok i know this is a old video i have watch several of your videos on the escape hybrid the problem im having is it has been throwing a p0a1f code a few times now it is a 2008 escape if i remember the one time is was saying something about the temp this time it is telling me something to do with the disconect plug so we desided it was time to take it in to a shop to see what is going on. i do have a snap on scaner and i have been working on stuff for 20 years know cars trucks buses but by far a master at none so when we went to take it in now it will run for a little bit and shuts down couldnt even get it to run long enuff to park it back in the drive way put scaner back on and has a p1a10 code as well so had it towed in the shop tells me the battrie pack is shot and a new one is $10,000 or a used one for 1600 i have a hard time bleaving the it went bad just like that . i fell like it could be a bad sensor or connection i live in sauk rapids minnesota.
