Love it, now such a classic song. Much love to those who have been "all time fans". And for all the newbies, this band set the standard for the hardcore scene in 08, given the scene was so scattered. Take any lesson you can from darkest, they were & are the new hardcore scene. I know we have the new 7 string bands setting up, but nvr forget the originals!
Daniel Seastrand, so I just turned 29 in feb, were part of the same cloth of hardcore, lol. Anyways, I grew up with and jammed with slot of the "hardcore scene" but as far as 7 string goes. It seems to be the new hardcore, all these new kids with there 7 strings are taking hardcore to a new level. Glad to hear from another original hardcore fan, just hope the scene nvr dies, and that hardcore will live for a long time!
stringduality especially considering he's a righty and self taught himself to play with his left hand! I don't mean to be biased but probably 1 of the most technical and creative musicians I've heard. Biggest critics of himself and no ego to boot. Love you Cuz
Are you aware of who this is??? This is Travis Fucking Orbin! He WROTE the drum parts to Periphery 1. And Intervals: Sound of Color. That's him on the album. He's probably one of the most technically proficient drummers alive today, no fucking joke. He can play damn near anything.
Did you watch the video? His ghost notes are clean af. He also has better dynamics than most drummers I can think of in the metal scene soooo... idk man
it ain't covers bud. It's originals. Matt is really playing Travis's material all of the first album since Travis had programmed and wrote all the parts for most of the songs on the first album. Matt has added his own style to the drum parts but the baseline for most of the songs in periphery has and always be Travis Orbin.
Don't get me wrong, I love Travis Orbin's drumming (been following him on TH-cam for a long time), however I must say that he is boring as fuck to watch in a METALCORE band. Like, cool dude, you have a unique set up, that's great, but it's honestly pointless in a band like this. Metalcore is about thrashing and playing with passion... idk I just don't see that here. I know I'm going to catch slack for this but I don't care. I miss the old drummer and honestly any drummer who'd put more heart into it would fit DARKEST HOUR better. Just my two cents.
+Poppa Punker I don't think he sounds as good as he once did, when he was playing with Sky Eats Airplane. Then, I could see him turning up and playing loud. I agree with some of the things you mentioned. Look at him now. Is this keeping the spirit of Bonham alive? Bonhams' sound was fucking massive. Travis? Well. As a rock drummer you should always try and sound huge. I just kind of laughed when I noticed he was washing, trying to carry the rest of the members with that dinky 18" crash. He should be playing bigger cymbals for his size and to better project over the wall of sound that is the stringed instruments in Darkest Hour.
+onuj Oh yeah. I think his biggest flaw to date is his neglect of swinging the ride cymbal. It doesn't matter if you're not going to play jazz live. Learn it so you don't sound so bare. Orbin needs more Mike Clark and Elvin Jones in his drumming.
+Poppa Punker Ryan Parrish is the original drummers name. He and Kris Norris (Ex-Darkest Hour also) was working together on a project recently called "Blisskill" but the band never took off. Check out one of they're demo songs on youtube, it's killer.
Bit late on the reply for this one haha. I think it is the fact that it is old material and not exactly the most technical drumming from Ryan Parrish, like don't get me wrong, Ryans drumming is excellent, but Travis has a lot more technicality and by now you've heard the new album and can hear that for yourself. Plus this is a pretty straight forward track and Orbin is probably a bit bored playing it.

Good drummer. Great band. Holds his sticks like clubs. Doesn't seem to hinder but I can't see him being able to play ghost notes with that grip.
