    This brings back memories from years gone by! The slow lumbering ride through the maze of tunnels. The smell of the city & the darkness. Plus the air conditioning cutting in and out. Thanks for reliving the memories. Eventually the train speeds up to meet 125th street. The start of the journey north to White Plains North. My parents stop was “Crestwood” on the Harlem Line of Metro North.

      I’m also old enough to remember when they had “smoking & nonsmoking” cars. Unbelievable today? They also had bar cars. Often the smoking car was the bar car. I never sat in a bar car or smoking car on purpose. It was that gross! They actually had a little door that would flop to cover the the “non” sign to turn it from non smoking to smoking.

    The first minutes seems to be a ride in a haunted house of an amusement park. What a deep dark cavern of the city.

    Boy, terminal interlocking in Grand Central is a real minefield...and I thought that Penn Station was scary with all of its hidden signals.

    Great HD video! Bronx local and stopping at Melrose and Tremont - there used to be some more stations on the system that were closed in the 1960s because they could not accommodate longer trains. The old station houses that used to hang over the tracks were so nice as well. Fordham still kinda has that. But the one at Woodlawn I remember the most.

    This is an excellent video! You captured it on a perfect day weather wise. I miss those m3a cars. Great work and great you were able to have the opportunity to film this. Thank you for posting this.

    Hello. I'm your new subscriber.
    I've been on the M3s on the LIRR, but I never got to ride them with a view of the RFW. Hopefully I get to do that on some of Metro-North's M3As while they're still in service. But anyways, great video as always. Keep up the good work.

    Love the fact that Metro-North still have M3s and they are so well takeb care of. Also love the fact that they have that beautiful blue line on the body of the cars.

    I travelled out of NYC to Chicago on Amtrak, changing trains in Albany NY. Brings back memories riding along here.
    In 2018 some Amtrak services were using GCT instead of Penn because of track works between there and Spuyten Duyvil Bridge.

    Beautiful RFW video!! I did want to know how the M3A looked from this angle since I took it back in 2015.

    With the last of the M2s on the New Haven Line gone for a few years now, guess now the Harlem and Hudson lines are the last bastions of front-facing RFW views* on the Metro-North railroad... bummer - good excuse for me to go ride said lines though! 😂

      I liked the M2s - M4s and 6s too - not just the RFW view, but also I liked how less "bright" the interior was compared to the M8s (though good god, what the hell did Morrison-Knudsen do to make the M6 bathroom odor control so bad? I swear, 2 cars away from a car with a bathroom, and you could smell that stank. 😂 😂 )

    • @flierfy
      @flierfy 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@johnyessis4906 Yes. there are. However, as the video shows, one of the four tracks is closed for engineering works. And with numerous trains running inbound at the time of recording, outbound traffic is condensed to one track only.

      Up to North White Plains only because the Substations on the 1983 electrified route to Brewster cannot handle 10-12 car M7As. Only 10 car M3As because those were ordered for the North White Plains Brewster electrification project

    So much track and so much distance travelled and yet so very few stations to achieve what a train network is suppose to do. Weird.

    What the hell is with that horrendous PA system? In today's day and age you still can't come up with a better sounding PA system where you can actually understand someone? Sounds like someone's got a pillow over their face with crap running in the background while they're talking, I'm from that area and I know all of those stations and I still couldn't understand what he was saying.
