    Amen to the process! I have 3 children, wife, house, cards and putting myself through college to further my career. Even drive part time as a semi truck driver. The process is huge, baby steps, rarely you can come out of the gate selling such nice cards and buying at the top tier as well.
    My best friend sells at a very high level with cards he has been buying since 2000’s. He is making money hand over fist, a few cards at life changing going amounts. I can never compete and understand it’s all a process too.

    The amount of bargains I’ve picked up over the years as people dump their cards when a new set comes out . I suggest starting with the base set of any product. Example I’ve just picked up 200 panini prizm all different for £8 / $10 . Plus pick up listing mistakes where the seller doesn’t realise what they have .

    I started collecting again a year ago and I’ve sold everything from .99 to $3,500! It’s taken work, patience, and there is 100% a process but I am financially better off now than I was a year ago and I have a sweet collection that is exploding! Thanks for your words! Best thing I can say is learn from your mistakes!!

    5 years ago, I told myself it was just for fun and set a limit of $50 for a sports card purchase because I'm on a limited income. Within a year I was buying $100 so I told myself $100 per card would be my limit. Soon I realized vintage under $100 was impossible unless you wanted low grades, so by my third year collecting I upped my "limit" to $500 per card. Of course that didn't last long either. You always desire nicer cards, more exclusive cards, better condition cards. It is very much like an addiction. I stopped going out and spending money, wore old beat up clothes and ate cheap sandwiches for meals. Stopped dating. In 2018-19, I was buying cards at around $1k each, albeit at slower rate than I began buying cards in the hobby, for obvious reasons. All my money started to go into it. At times I would have to borrow money or sell something to make ends meet when I overspent. At times it would be embarrassing because it seemed like I had a drug problem or something. When the market jumped last year, I finally felt like I knew what I was doing and wasn't spiraling out of control. Now I kinda wish I spent more, because the cards I purchased the past 5 years have tripled or quadrupled. But now I need to bring myself to sell, and that has been a huge internal struggle. Maybe someday soon. Meanwhile, because of high prices I've slowed down buying and put everything into prospective and can pay all my bills by myself. I might have lucked out with the market if I can sell the cards now, but that's a big "if". I'm worried I'm going to be found alone in my home dead with like a quarter of a mil in sports cards all around me if I can't get out of this hobby.

      Bro, you have to start selling now. Keep the cards you really like but take advantage of the current sports card boom. I’ve sold almost 20K the past 8 months through eBay and the FB marketplace. I did end up using 15K to purchase my Holy grail (2 Michael Jordan 86 Fleer PSA 7s) that’s when prices dropped last month.

    Great words of advice and encouragement, I can attest to the hiding collectibles from the wife and it's a terrible guilty feeling. Gotta be careful and not get addicted to the high of buying cause when it comes down to it, it's just stuff that can always be bought again when you do it right. FAMILY FIRST! You're nothing without them. Thanks brotha.

  • @scarpfish
    @scarpfish 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I don't care if it's sports cards, the stock market, crypto, NFTs or whatever, following FOMO hype will make you broke. Once the media has gotten involved and prices start soaring, its too late. There will be other opportunities. Lots of them. It doesn't help that we have all these channels that are pumping certain players or sets.
    I suggest everyone go play with a compounding interest calculator at least once in their life. It can show you how small amounts of money can turn into massive amounts, with diligence, patience and time, and when the market hits a slump, it won't be a burden on your other finances.

    Very informative video especially the No Debt portion which I was luckily able to capitalize on by being single for the last 2 years with no kids. I got back into the hobby in mid 2019 after my relationship ended. I started with $200 and my collection (including some from my childhood) is worth over $25,000.

    I've been collecting since I was kid, I'm 35 and pretty much have a 30 year investment. Collected across all sports, I've been sitting on them for years and added a few large lots over the years. I've been finally organizing since the start of the year. 135K cards in my PC. It'll take time but I have key cards of HOF players and future HOF's. Just going to take time

    Good topic! I remember around 91-92 86 fleer boxes were selling for around $5-600 and I wanted one so bad but we just had our first kid and I wouldn't be typing this today if my wife found out I bought one..lol.. I recently told her how much they sell for now. Her response, why didn't you buy a couple?? 🤦
    Raising three kids in school, sports and life, I stuck around the hobby till early 2000s but there was just so much to keep up with I just boxed it all up and threw it under the stairs in storage. Now that my kids are grown and out of the house, noticing what some of these cards are selling for has really peaked my interest again. Time to start digging through those old boxes.. but man, it is a lot of work.

    Yeah addiction for a lot of people is a real thing. Plus if you jump in too deep too quick you can buy all the wrong cards or players. Research is a big thing and it’s easy to over extend yourself, I actually did at one point but have rectified that slowly. Now I buy for the fun of it ‘when’ I have the spare cash. Plus this hobby tends to move in cycles so once you’re aware of that you can just relax and enjoy it more. Great video man 👍
