Great advice as always Sean! I finally am making my goal income, working my goal hours and all in a BORING niche but hey, it allows me to do all the things I've wanted to do during the week. All thanks to Location Rebel!
If you can put up with writing about laminate flooring, there are tons of local service businesses that could benefit hugely from better SEO placements in big cities. Any home renovation that comes out a couple grand would be great potential clients.
Yep, and not saying people shouldn't. But doing this can make it more financially feasible (and provide some skills) to actually be successful doing so.
Had to pause it and comment to say the reason I watch YOUR videos is cause they aren’t boring. You provide excellent value to me starting out here and I can’t wait to be able to pay it forward. Thank you!
Well you got straight to the point on this one. For the last week I’ve been going in circles on ‘where should I start as a freelance generalist writer’ but i can focus on learning what you mentioned. I don’t see why not. Thank you Sean.
Loved the video. Didn't like the chicken because now I'm just hungry. Thanks A LOT Sean!! 😁 Excellent advice as usual. Now you've got my mind working... 🤔
Personally, I wouldnt worry about that right off the bat. By default, you're a sole-proprietor. Focus on getting clients first and once you have some income coming in, then you can conisder whether or not to start an LLC or otherwise.
I don't mind writing about "boring" things, since I'm interested, at least partly, in way too many topics. It's the knowledge part that worries me. I'm decent at research so it shouldn't be a problem, but I', still worried.
Google is your friend! It's amazing how quickly you can find the info you need. That's one of those "lets cross that bridge when we get to it" problems ha
I'm sure this also applies to videos about those industries as well? I do freelance video editing, so it would be interesting to be able to make it more financially viable for me.
I know a few attorneys that will probably give me work. I don't ask because I've read that you need a law degree or background to get the job. Is this true?
I think it specifically depends on what they're looking for. If they're looking for some more general content writing to beef up their blog and potential for search results then I dont think a law background is necessary as long as you're willing to spend some time on Google to get a basic understanding of the topic. If it's more specific content that moves into the territory of legal adivce, that may be difficult. Certainly worth having a conversation.
Are you willing to write about less interesting topics to get your freelance business off the ground faster?
Sean this video is ridiculously freeing. I’ve been hung up on niche and this one made it so simple. Thank you!

We're taught our whole lives to follow our passions...

This is exactly what I want to do. I'll be around.
Wow, what brilliant advice! Thanks
Thanks for the information! My big question of the day for Sean or anyone who does freelance writing is this: Should I have a business license?
Personally, I wouldnt worry about that right off the bat. By default, you're a sole-proprietor. Focus on getting clients first and once you have some income coming in, then you can conisder whether or not to start an LLC or otherwise.
Great tips

Domestic violence is not a sexy or fun topic. No one wants to talk about it.
