I should go live in Rwanda. No drugs, no smoking, clean environment, community coming together to make effort in cleaning.....YES TAKE ME TO RWANDA SOMEONE!
Rwanda is an organized country and certainly one of the cleanest countries in the world. Rwandans who are used to meeting foreigners and those who are used to traveling are very welcoming. The workers in the administration are also very open. Security is at its maximum everywhere, especially at the airport, both for those who leave and those who enter the country. Bravo! but you should know that everything is far from rosy there. First the climate. If you go there at certain times you can be particularly charmed but be careful! There are long periods of intense heat accompanied by completely unbearable red dust. The pollution is very strong for several weeks or even months. Those who have asthma or a respiratory allergy should know this. On the social side, you may be shocked when you go to greet someone or want to talk to him and the person turns away or looks unpleasant. It's because he don't speak any foreign languages! For this kind of people you will not even get a smile, a sign or even a word in their language. You can stay there planted it is not their problem. Another thing be particularly vigilant. At the hotel you must lock all your belongings in your suitcase and not leave your room key at the reception. In the stores you must be attentive to the count of what you take. At the cash register you must count the amount that is given back to you and check the receipt. In the markets there are many scams. You have to negotiate everything fiercely otherwise a kilogram of banana for example, which costs 700 Rwf can be sold to you for 3000 Rwf. That aside, it is a charming country where you can have a quiet residence.
I live in Rwanda and I completely agree about tipping/paying a little bit extra. An extra dollar doesn't make any difference to us but it DOES make a difference to someone struggling to feed their family. Great to hear your comments! Let's be positive visitors to this lovely country with its really amazing people.
