    great video and idea. I have been making them and also show how to do it on my utube channel. I even show how to make the ones like you by with the metal top instead of wood. wood ones work just as well.

    Been using separate cheap 5 packs of the mandrels but next time I will make my own. two tips I have for when you have multiple sanding mandrels. 1) I write what grit that mandrel is for on it. 2) I grabbed an old scrap piece of 2 x 4 and offset drilled 1/4" holes and ca glued a 6.2mm rare earth magnet in the hole and then you can put the mandrels into those holes and the magnet will hold them in so they are not laying about your shop.

    Great tip. Yes, I am one of those who ruined my sanding disk by over heating it. I will be making my own and it will save me money and will have fun making them. Being an upholster I understand the density of the foam that you used. I really enjoyed this really great tip and I am looking forward to more of your youtubes. Yes, I did subscribe. Thanks.

    Yes Dean, I have made mandrels for each of the grits that I have both in 2” and 3”. I can sand from 80 grit to 600 grit. I used 1/2 inch carpet padding for the cushion material. The spigot jaws on one of my chucks closes small enough to hold the small screw driver bits so no need to use my jacobs chuck and draw bar.

    I’ve been doing this for many years. Works very good. I made mine using MDF and foam from floor pads. I assembled mine by first roughly cutting the MDF round just over 2” and 3”. Drill a hole for the drive bit and the glue them in. I then used the drill chuck in the headstock. It’s better if the wood disk is smaller that bigger than the sanding disk so you are less likely to touch the inside wall of whatever you’re sanding. Do you know if you can buy only the hook side? You don’t need the loops unless you plan to glue sandpaper on to it Thanks for the video

    • @DeansWoodworking
      @DeansWoodworking  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Greg that is the great thing about these any wood will work and any foam will work I actually use several densities of foam. I have not located anywhere you can buy just the hook but I will keep looking and if you find hook only please let me and everyone else know. Thanks for Watching!!!
