Four Mountain Cattlemen Huts In The Victorian High Country.

  • Each of the four huts that i visited, are loaded with history from the days of mountain cattlemen.
The Victorian High Country huts were built by the families of the mountain cattlemen, dating well back into the mid to late 1900's.
They built the huts to use as shelter when they would spend weeks on end mustering cattle on the higher mountain peaks during the summer months with their cattle.
Today, the mountain cattlemen don't use the huts that they once built for mustering purposes, because the cattle aren't allowed to graze the large parts of the Victorian High Country.
So, they still stand for campers to visit when they are passing through the region in the 4WD.
I't very important to look after these very historical cattle huts, so they remain for everyone to enjoy them and take a moment to think about the days of the mountain cattlemen.
Victorian High Country huts are scattered through out the region.
We visit the iconic Craigs Hut and three other mountain cattlemen huts.
Craig's Hut wasn't used or built by the mountain cattlemen, it was built as a film prop for the iconic Australia movie series, The Man From Snowy River.
Each and every one of them is is filled with character and history from days gone by.
The four Victorian High Country huts I have selected out from Mansfield, are quite easy to get to in your 4wd.
What are some of the huts of the Victorian High Country have you been into?

Great hut tours, I have been to all of them a very long time ago. I actually rescued a bush walker at razorback hut who we thought had appendicitis, we drove them to Mansfield hospital. It turned out that they were badly dehydrated. That was back in about 1990 so I think I’m ready for another visit. Great video 🍻🔥⛺️🛖

Tim..please stop promoting my backyard!! Its hard enough these days to get a park in the High Street in Mansfield on any long weekend as it is!! So no more telling everyone how beautiful and peaceful it is with the great views and the clear waters of the Howqua and Delatite rivers....joking mate...great stuff and have camped at Bluff and Lovick huts over the years and still see Charlie poking about the place!!
