  • Craigs Hut is a great location for watching either a stunning sunrise or sunset. This 4WD trip begins with a sunrise over Craigs Hut before we head off.
    This Victorian High Country 4wd trip takes us over some stunning mountain country after leaving from Craigs Hut.
    Craigs Hut was a prop for the iconic Australian movies. The Man From Snowy River.
    It is a stunning elevated Vic High Country camping spot up near the hut, and to experience these amazing morning sun rises is pretty special.
    Once leaving Craigs Hut, we made our way over the the top of Mount Stirling and down into one of my one of my favourite camping Victoria spots at Sheepyard Flat on the Howqua River for the night.
    Sheepyard Flat is another really nice Victorian based campsite beside the Howqua river.

      Thanks for your feedback mate.

    Love the high country was my first time there this year and i think about that place often, witnessed a alpine lightning storm over Craigs hut stayed one night then went down to kings hut with a mate for 2 nights had that to ourselfs then i ended up on a solo drive up monumental trk that was an interesting drive didn't really know what i was in for when i did that! But glad i did. Victoria has so many beautiful places, i don't travel the world or even around australia, wkend trips around and high country is pretty much a holiday and adventure for me, so many places I've yet to explore in this awesome little state of ours.

      Gday John,
      That trip out from Craig’s Hut was a great trip.
      Stunning country.
      There’s a lot of that grey timber throughout the High Country. Looks amazing through the sunshine, but it’s a real shame as to what’s happened to them.
      Hopefully the under growth comes through one day.
      Thanks for your reply mate and I hope you can check it out some day.

    Nice shoot,Ive done them tracks in my Daihatsu Rocky TD when it was wet and no problems except little bit bumpy,that area is something to see and i am looking forward to doing it in my monster land rover diesel county,shouldn't have any problems because i built the landy for them type of tracks,being double locked and 33s shouldn't have any worries with them tracks. As for the dead trees it might look sad but a lot of animals live in them,nature finds a way of equalizing the score.

    gday mate! I was wondering if i could get to craigs hut in a 2wd since I saw some hatchbacks at 1:40 ? what track do you recommend for that!

    • @timbates4wdadventures
      @timbates4wdadventures  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Gday Louis,
      I wouldn't be telling anyone to try and get to Craigs Hut in a 2wd.
      The sign at the beginning of the easy option track to the hut, says 4wd only.
      The final 400mtr climb to the carpark is steepish and besides that, a 2wd wouldn't have the ground clearance to get over the washouts along the track.
      Hope that helps mate.
      Cheers Batesy.

    • @Louis-jv3fz
      @Louis-jv3fz 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      all good man, thanks for the reply, so you reckon i could drive up to Circuit Road Picnic Area to camp, and then just use the trail to walk to the hut?

    • @timbates4wdadventures
      @timbates4wdadventures  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, you will travel along the Circuit Road no worries at all in a 2wd.
      When coming in from Telephone Box Junction.
      About 500mtrs before the 4wd track begins to the hut. You will see a carpark with a drop loo, thats where the people park that are walking up to Craigs Hut.
      It's about 1.2k from the carpark. But all downhill on the way back
      You have a top trip, Craigs Hut is unreal. @@Louis-jv3fz

      Gday mate,
      Thanks for your reply and feed back.
      January isn't too bad a time to come down, but you will need to be prepared for any bush fires that could start for that time of year.
      If you need any tips on your trip in January, let me know mate.
      The iron cook set was made by an old black smith near Bright.
      It's a very handy set for cooking on the camp fire with.

    After advice i have a navara D22 what would you go first front or rear lockers ?

    • @timbates4wdadventures
      @timbates4wdadventures  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi mate, I had two D22's from 2003 until buying my Patrol in 2009.
      They were a great dual cab off road.
      I didn't run any lockers in either model.
      Just depends what style of 4wding you want to do, that might want to have lockers fitted.
      I think the rear limited slip diff in the D22 isn't to bad. So look at a front locker if you are going to do one end.
