@@seattlerealestateiq I totally get that, I'm a die hard snowboarder and have been for almost 30 years, but you could put that set-up on Yuto Totsuka with the same pipe and he'd shred that shit. The entire sport has evolved to levels incomprehensible in 1990.
@@Gauthierbrad27 I've been snowboarding for 34 years. My dad took this video when we were there watching these guys...all the old heros. It's different because they were the first. Craig was already over competitive snowboarding by this point. Shaun Palmer won that year. Terje soon came on the scene. Sure snowboarders are better now but it's because these guys started the entire thing.
@@seattlerealestateiq Yeah, I didn't mean that to diminish the achievement of the snowboarding pioneers. If there's one thing that defines snowboarding it's imagination and a relentless drive forward for the sport. That's awesome your dad filmed this piece of history. Coincidentally I'm actually going to Breckinridge in a few weeks so a may even ride directly where this video was taken haha.
@@Gauthierbrad27 Craig is probably the most important to modern snowboarding than any other of the pioneers. If alive today he would give modern pros a run for their money in the Backcountry. He will always be a legend.
This is what Snowboarding looked like at the beginning of the 90s by 1999, when it had appeared in the X games and Olympics, it evolved into something completely different that included Spinning, Flip, and Grab tricks
A few people were doing flips on Snowboards. Although they had to careful as inverted manoeuvres were not legal in the U.S.A. as there was a huge amount of people that got sued.
Good thing Craig had his board leash! 😄 Man how things have changed. Besides the obvious board and binding advancements I'd say the invention of the Pipe Dragon was one of the true game changers.

Bob was instrumental to the early days of snowboarding! It was a better time with all the small independent shops working together to further the sport. I feel lucky to have been a part of that time of snowboarding too!
Wish they had runs like this again now where no spinning was going on. Would love to see style in the pipe again instead of spinning so fast and for so long I am lost at wtf is going on and they all look the same. Gonna go yell at some clouds now. Good ol days.
That was like the best of the best halfpipes of that day too. Every hit was completely different. People say how snowboarders are so much better now. Try shredding that pipe with that equipment and then talk! You either land outside the pipe or air to flat. Staying smooth was an art. Craig made that garbage halfpipe look cool and smooth. RIP Craig!
Incredible how the sport has progressed!
Man I’m getting old!
The OGs
Wow… it’s unreal to see this compared to the gold medal runs in 2021.
Compare the gear and halfpipe (stunt ditch) they had with today's riders.

Back in them days that wasn’t long after you couldn’t get on the lift without a leash, and Snowboards had just been aloud in most resorts. Early 90’s.

Haha! I agree 💯
That pipe is so wide and the sides are so small and steep he’s basically having to bunny up his tricks
that pipe is sooo tiny!!!

The walls are tiny, but that flat looks like a football field
