The fact that the Guardians were able to beat Omni Man into unconsciousness while a 400 billion dollar space laser could only give him a nosebleed shows just how strong the Guardians actually were, and why Omni Man needed to eliminate them for his plan.
There’s another reason he absolutely had to go for them first, I don’t want to spoil later story arcs so I’ll just say this: they 100% could have beaten him with even a few minutes to mentally prepare/get over the shock of a friend being “mind controlled”.

Sorry guys, Invencible is better than the MCU, but this one is a reach for me. It just isn’t groundbreaking to acknowledge damage in anything based off superhero comicbooks. Every other superhero universe does this.
@@acat1473 he did make it almost page to page copy from the comics but his style and understanding kinda misunderstood the theme and purpose of Watchmen’s story
If red rush didn't engage Omniman directly, and stuck to supporting his team with maneuvering their position, they would have actually had a chance considering how much damage Omniman ended up sustaining at the end.
The damage was pretty intentional as he needed to remove the suspicion from him. People forget that the only reason Nolan is on Earth is because he is one of the best Viltrumites, people who did the purge to select the stongest among them. He has fought multiple Viltrumites like himself and the strongest beings in this universe and won.
A lot of people are saying that they could have won if they actually fought together, and if Red Rush hadn't tried to go toe to toe with him, if green ghost had phased... but like, that was the reason why he surprised them like he did. He caught them off guard, unprepared, and yes, they probably could've beaten him with a careful plan and cooperation, but he ambushed them and took them out one by one as panic set in. Every move he did was incredibly calculated (and terrifying).
0:56 Agreed, I love how red rush is using hit and run tactics and you can see how he just stays calm takes the hits and waits for an opportunity to grab him. As soon as he gets hold of red rush he wins, and he knows this.
If you notice red rush hits him in the opposite direction ▶️. That his looking when he faces the other direction he grab him off guard he attacked predictably.
I mean I still think they made a lot of mistakes and could've beaten him even when caught off guard Here they beat him badly enough that he ended up comatose, so if Red Rush and stayed on the defensive, War Woman picked up her mace Green Ghost doing something, they definitely could've beaten him
I really liked this scene from a storytelling perspective. Like, the guardians aren’t by any means weak, Omniman is just THAT much more powerful. And they show both of those things. He isn’t just magically plot armor powerful. He takes some damage, has to exert himself a little, but is clearly on a different level of training experience and power. He is a badass, but not untouchable.
You can also see how after his first ambush missed, he's really acting cautious, he's playing defensive analyzing the situation and not underestimating his opponents.
That mace hit really rattled Omni-man. You could tell he was legitimately stunned for a second. Like others said, if red rush and green ghost stayed on defensive support this could have gone differently. Let the Batman and aqua man types keep him off balance with their gimmicks and let the three heavies wear him down and maybe this goes differently.
Yeah, the fish guy could have defended himself from that mace hit still, they had a chance after so many of them died, if only they didn't let themselves slip up so much.
not so much I think. because he needed that visible damage to make his unconscious state found on site work. remember when he went into the portal and literally destroyed everything on planet just by super flight speed and strength. then held a mountain over techs to make them open the portal again for him
@@cwolf201 no he didn’t, him being beat up was a convenient alibi because he already was, if he had beaten them without a scratch he could’ve just gone home
I mean really most of the hits he took was whilst he was immobilised, it’s impressive that they were able to do that much damage with their punches, but without the stretchy clay man (I forgot his name I haven’t watched invincible in a while) he probably would’ve beaten them much easier
What's crazy is that they might've actually _beaten_ him if he didn't have the element of surprise. There's a lot of moments you can see he's in real, actual pain from the hits they scored, like the water blast at :50 is actually strong enough to move him, and War-woman cracking him across the face with her club definitely hurt for real at 2:24.
@Kaev Iason Edmalin Subtle way to say "Remember all that fun we were having when we were fighting the muler twins? There was heroic music cool action, and comradery This isn't that type of show ._."
"My Josef is finally standing still and I *still* can't see him"... Shouts to Red Rush, arguably the greatest of the Guardians. There's a lot of brutal imagery in this show, but for some reason Red Rush throwing punches until all of the bones in his hands are broken was always the most visceral to me.
Not really. Viltrumites are super tough, but all the power they have, they make it. If that makes sense. Debbie would still slap him with the same effect as if he was human, but he doesn't feel it. And if Nolan slaps Debbie without holding back, well...
They might’ve stood a chance if the fast guy hadn’t gone on the offensive, he was quick enough to move his friends away from attacks so they could’ve whittled Omni-man down. As it is, they’ll never know how close they came to beating him.
3:33 the look on Nolans face. He genuinly looks a little remorseful. After all the battle focus and adrenaline has worn off and he's about to pass out, he thinks past his devotion to Viltrum and realizes that it cost him this. He just murdered his own friends. Personally I think Nolan actually felt more for the Gardians than he let on.
I appreciate how the show gave a more balanced fight. The comic book Guardians pretty much died instantly. The show actually made me care for them, specially Red Rush.
I believe that the writer of the comics even said that he preferred the way the cartoon handled it, admitting that he was a weaker writer when he began the comic series.
I like the decision to make Immortal more of a sympathetic and heroic character for the show. In the comic he is more arrogant and obnoxious, but in the show he is closer to a direct superman analogue, thinking the best of people and acting selflessly. His reactions make this scene carry more weight and underscore the betrayal and tragedy.
@@WimpySoul The show has tweaked a lot of the characters from the book. Check out Debbie's reaction to Mark in the last episode. VERY different from how she behaved in the comic. So far I like the changes.
Yeah, I didn’t like how in the comic after seeing every one of the Guardians get murdered he’s all like “ShOw YoUr SeLf! Or “I wOnT bE sO eAsY!” Instead of showing care that his friends just died.
When he wakes up from his coma and starts screaming in rage at the Mauler twins, you could see just how much he loved the guardians, and how much he respected Omni Man given he pulled the same thought process as Mark, thinking someone was controlling him. The sad confusion at the end as he repeatedly asks 'Why?' was gut wrenching
3:33 makes me think that the look on his face was not just because he nearly died, but that this was the earliest forshadowing about his attachment to earth and humanity. An astounding detail!
And this is a scary situation, like you can see that the Guardians had a real chance to beat Omniman, perhaps even just capture him, but the situation was what should be, panic, shock, you just can't think straight.
@@IVEEEK0203 true, there are things stronger that Omniman here on earth and they definitely fought them, I believe their defeat was due to the sheer impossibility of the situation, Omniman was on earth for almost two decades now and he never tried to directly harm earth forces, even if some of them probably disliked Nolan, they saw an ally in him and it is really hard to just beat down him just because he started throwing punches.
Nolan's whole plan depends on Red Rush's care for his friends. He could have escaped and alerted the world what was going on before Nolan could stop him but he stayed to try and protect the other Guardians.
That's interesting. It's possible Nolan could fly fast enough to catch Red Rush -- he can fly across interstellar space -- but if Rush had immediately left Nolan would have to choose between stopping him or finishing the other Guardians, lose-lose. But Omni-Man knew the Guardians, and I'm sure he knew RR would never abandon his teammates. Besides, none of them knew yet who they were really dealing with.
Ngl this lowkey made me sad cuz the Guardians were genuinely good people unlike the Seven in The Boys. So seeing them be brutally murdered hurt me. They didn’t deserve it at all.
@@Raximus3000 ofc they are worse. The Boys revolves around showing both sides, the Boys and The Seven, this allows them to flesh out both Characters. These Guardians are pretty much made to show where Omni Man stands and what he's seen like amongst everyone.
I just realized there's another reason to avoid having a cape: you could lose the element of surprise. Nolan noticed him because he HEARD the cape flapping in the wind.
Tbh omni probably could have tracked him and would have snagged him eventually anyway, the dude has super perception and enough speed to cause a blast wave behind him when he's flying so I think he's faster than RR. Not sure though.
I love the face he makes at the end not looking satisfied or a sense of accomplishment I think he really did not like doing this but saw it as ultimately necessary
It's interesting how the Guardians don't even try to question Nolan, they just immediately pick up the vibe he is putting down and get straight to throwing hands.
I love how the guardians actually use teamwork and mostly play to their strengths... and that Omniman went for the Immortal first. This entire scene is pure gold and such an improvement on the comics!
Eh. Not really. Its jarring seeing Omniman's and a Viltrumite's real strength. People say its an improvement so the Guardians weren't fodder. I think realistically it was Omni-Man letting them take free shots so he can play off as innocent. Considering the feats in the Viltrumite War if you compared this in anyway to its comic book half then Nolan got nerfed
@@Monty2289 not really. This is far more interesting to me than Omniman blitzing everyone. Also why would it make him less suspicious? Great Chance?! No they did not they were literally setup by Omni Man, they didn't expect to be attacked because if they were they would've quickly got into their battle formations/strategies. @@fmlazar I'd say he is at struggling at least a little, I'm pretty sure this is the only time we ever see him get this damaged. My guess is that he actually did struggle quite a bit. Maybe he let them hit him some to make the image better, but he’s a Viltrumite with insane pain tolerance. I mean, Nolan- *spoilers ahead for the comics* -got brutally beaten and captured by 3 other Viltrumites. I’d say the Guardians all together are about 2~ average Viltrumites? With Immortal being half of that. Keep in mind, Nolan is a highly regarded and powerful Viltrumite. I’d say 2nd only behind Thragg. He is the descendant of Argall. Immortal could probably make some average Viltrumites catch his hands.
Having known this happens and just watched the show, it's still jarring. The entire show is such a family friendly experience up until this point. I really appreciate how this tonal change sets the pace for the entirety of the show and shows you the juxtaposition from what you'd normally see first.
It does a really amazing job at building intrigue as well. I got spoiled on a lot before watching but my friends I showed it to fresh were asking through the entire run time of the show "why did he do it?" "Will he do it again?" "How does this end?"
So I just watched this part and I remembered something. Red Rush said on his date that he hates talking to people because his mind also moves insanely fast and it greatly drags on his perception of time. Meaning to him he was being crushed for hours.
Not hours. Omniman actually crushed him in a split second, but we saw time slow down in Red Rush’s perspective. So to him, he was being crushed in a couple of seconds just like we saw
@@diegopansini3152 very nice take. It makes total sense. Especially because a human skull is like an egg shell for Nolan, no way that would take that much effort from his part to take a few seconds
I agree. This version was much better IMO than the comic book battle, in which Omni-Man thrashed the entire team with very little effort and no real damage taken.
@@suckerman7gm In hindsight, his plan was full of holes. War Woman/Immortal Man had Omni Man's blood on the war hammer and their fists. And Omni man would have Red Rush's blood all over his hands. Cecil wouldn't even have needed a detective

This is a warrior over a thousand years old, who spent much of those years fighting wars across the galaxy. And he's still just ONE guy in his race who are alive and kicking.

He just murdered his friends in cold blood because of what he thought was right by Viltrum and for Earth in the long run. Might help explain why he immediately tried being so indifferent afterwards, going so far focusing more on Viltrumite ideals. He's distancing himself from the pain he's inflicted.

After finding out how incredibly powerful Omni man really was later on I watched this with new respect for the Guardians. Really shows they weren't weak at all.
@Sathan's right hand I still think that makes less sense given they would never have suspected onmniman if he wasn't there. That and the main evidence against him was all the damage done to his suit, he also can't exactly pretend to be injured either
The shot where Omni-man is holding Red Rush at 1:19 is gorgeous and I wish it was longer. In that scene, even though all the superheroes are moving at a really slow motion, you can still see the insane speed that Red Rush is punching Omni-man.
I guess the best part is that red rush actually damaged omni-man, Nolan was even coughing blood after all his punches, even though red rush doesn't have super power like Mark
I disagree. Omni-Man is very charismatic. If he was able to convince even ONE of the other heroes to join the Viltirimite cause, his ability to do so increases ten-fold.
The score starting at 0:17 is so mysterious and anticipating because even though its relatively quick when omni man appears, its slow enough for the "wth?!" to flow from you mouth while you're processing what omni man just tried to do to Immortal. Then you really feel the heaviness of Omni mans presence at 0:34 when that trombone kicks in. Such great scoring for such an epic and brutal scene
Looking back, the Guardians really were formidable. To push Nolan like this is turned out to be not all that easy. I imagine that if Nolan had underestimated them and never bothered getting to know them they would have brought him down for sure.
That's probably why he didn't just take over from the very beginning - he saw that the Guardians were too strong. Then he met Debby and decided to put off the whole conquest thing. The reason he went for it (again, even with surprise, he was still lucky - it could have gone 50/50) was that Mark got his powers and he could no longer delay: if Mark learned to be a superhero and joined the guardians, there would be no way Omniman could take over.
I love how during the speech at the Guardians memorial service, Omni Man chuckles when he attempted to pay homage to Dark Wing. It alludes to the fact that Omni Man saw Dark Wing as a joke. Omni finds all of humanity as below him and the fact that a man with no powers thinks he is equal to gods like Omni Man and Immortal, humors Omni Man.
exactly. The immortal he could somewhat respect, cause even tho he was human he wouldn't age and lived for thousands of years like omni-man, along with having super strength, speed and flight. The immortal was basically a human given viltrumite powers. Darkwing was none of that. He was a man trying his best, but all omni-man could see him for was a lowly human, so he was amused that darkwing actually resisted against him.
I'm pretty sure he let them beat him up so it wouldn't look like he was responsible. His plan was to make it look like he met up with the guardians and they were all jumped with him being the only survivor.
@@henryflanigan1400idk tbh, that was a pretty risky plan with a lot of holes in it, I don't think it was his original intention to pass out there, I think it was more so a quick excuse after he got overwhelmed and had to think of a reason shy he was there.
@henryflanigan1400 Nope. In an event where Invincible is sent back in time in an alternate reality, he gives the Guardians a warning so Omni Man lost the element of surprise and the Guardians actually beat him Justice League style

I knew this show would show blood but I never thought how graphic it would be, this has to be one of the best scenes I've ever seen it shocks you, sets up the season and the atmosphere of the show, and their deaths did mean something also it showed the true power of Omni man and the guardians, I mean warrior woman and Immortal and red rush were able to go toe to toe and do intense damage the type that got him hospitalised
There’s an interesting contrast between the shot at 0:50 and 2:05. The first one shows that he’s growing impatient, and letting his emotions take control of him. However the second shot is much more chilling, as his face is more pale and focused, showing how he’s now tuning out his emotions in order to concentrate on his mission.
3:17 The Immortal repeats what everyone watching this without having heard of the comics before and turned on the show expecting a fun superhero romp is saying.
Although Omni did absolutely massacre them, we gotta appreciate how well they fought despite the strongest being taken out first pretty much. War Woman nearly took out his eye, it looks as if it is almost about to pop out in one scene.
War Woman, Immortal and Red Rush did enough damage to Omni-Man to leave him unconscious for at least a day, and in hospital for a week, even with his Viltrumite healing. Debbie said she'd never seen him this badly hurt.

He was such a champ saving his teammates
A lot of people are saying that they could have won if they actually fought together, and if Red Rush hadn't tried to go toe to toe with him, if green ghost had phased... but like, that was the reason why he surprised them like he did. He caught them off guard, unprepared, and yes, they probably could've beaten him with a careful plan and cooperation, but he ambushed them and took them out one by one as panic set in. Every move he did was incredibly calculated (and terrifying).

If you think about it this is how Superman vs Wonder Woman would’ve actually ended up like if Superman uses his full strength and is not bound by morals.
@@tianshuhuang5431 Not really. Wonder Woman is pretty toe to toe with Superman because Superman is weak to magic. She is almost as strong as him and is better trained in combat. Not to mention she has a shield, a sword and a lasso.

@@GreaterGrievobeast55 yeah they probably wouldn’t immeaditly think “yeah it was Omni man, our best hero”
J
And what is up with that suit, he could have stored it in a cave on the moon but no, he has to put it in his own house in his living room.
I love how omni-man goes for immortal first. He knows he's the one that can give him the most trouble. Respect for Immortal.
The shot where Omni-man is holding Red Rush at 1:19 is gorgeous and I wish it was longer. In that scene, even though all the superheroes are moving at a really slow motion, you can still see the insane speed that Red Rush is punching Omni-man.
And Omni-Man broke his skull in a matter of... a second
I guess the best part is that red rush actually damaged omni-man, Nolan was even coughing blood after all his punches, even though red rush doesn't have super power like Mark

Seen the entire season, seeing how much Omniman struggled with them, I now get why he took them out. Cold as ice, but masterfully strategic move.
Couldn’t be allowed to have any kind of prep time against him
I disagree. Omni-Man is very charismatic. If he was able to convince even ONE of the other heroes to join the Viltirimite cause, his ability to do so increases ten-fold.
@@yeahforsure2892 Bro even if he did, he won't do it cause they're not full blooded viltirimite

2:56 This part where he rips the spot off is so satisfying 😅😂
Yum
Man, it's always the little details that can only be comprehended after rewatching the show that get me
I just listened to the eulogy and couldn't hear it
No, he doesn't
@@wariyoshidirector Because it doesn't happen
After watching Omni man vs three other viltrumite a it’s absolutely insane that the guardians actually did as much damage to omniman as they did.
The Guardians ain't no weak shi it's Omni man who's incredibly strong

1:46 what was bro trying to accomplish falling on him 😂
There’s an interesting contrast between the shot at 0:50 and 2:05. The first one shows that he’s growing impatient, and letting his emotions take control of him. However the second shot is much more chilling, as his face is more pale and focused, showing how he’s now tuning out his emotions in order to concentrate on his mission.
