Speaking as one of those roadworkers you spoke so kindly about, our welly unit (welfare van) is the most abused van we have. Any Tom, Dick or Harry drives the thing. It's sat all day ticking over, some operatives seem to think its fine to keep using the toilet when its overflowing and gets driven pretty hard. Ours has just over 50k miles on it but if you didn't know, you would think it had done 150k. It wouldn't be my first choice for sure.
Problem with them is there only reliable to 150000 mile. You don't see any used ones over that millage for sale but yoy see loads of crafter and sprinters over 400000 miles so I'm more confidant that a vw or merc can do the millage I need reliably. Good luck with yours. You'll love it
I wouldn't touch one with a barge pole. As other people have said they may show 100,000 plus miles but they've been sat ticking over bore washing the bores for 50hrs a week from new ontop of the displayed mileage. Never mind that they've had 6 blokes sat in them generally abusing them. It's only non trade buyers who would touch them.
They might clean up well but these vans are a naive choice 1- the low mileage doesn’t reflect the large number of hours the actual van has done , they are literally left at tickover for 8 hour shifts and the unburnt carbon glues up the injectors egr etc 2- no one who uses them cares and get a ton of abuse 3 there’s no insulation, you’ll need to rip everything out and start again 4 even at 5 years everything your buying into batteries microwave are already knackered and worn out 5 the equipments and interior fittings are commercial they are ugly and you’ll end up changing it soon And why are buying from a dealer if you looking to get value for money , ultimately somewhere in the deal your giving that dealer a £3000 profit which comes at your expense
