    Phil has been through HELL with back problems, nerve problems, etc and the fact he's getting old, but to see him out there on the road, going to all these cities, helping put on kickass shows, that brings a smile to my face. Everyone in Genesis is out there doing what they love. Rock on!

    It's quite easy to criticise when you're sat at home, but I went to see them live and I will never forget it! So pleased I got to see one of my favourite bands live.

    To all critics: Old men can sing and play whenever they want. It's their own material, even. You really think for a full-blooded musician there can be a retirement? Sure I feel sadness too, but they deserve our respect and Phil's son is doing a great job.

      @@sanchez501 I am sure it was great. Close your eyes and listen to the music and it is brilliant. It's only when you open them and see a frail old man sitting there who can hardly sing that you realise this isn't true entertainment. One of the greatest bands of all time but it's not the way many fans want to remember them.

      I was at Manchester on the 24th. Awesome show. Sad, yes, but Phil did an incredible job of what must have been a gruelling experience.
      I think there could be a few factors involved in the dramatic decline that's apparent from his interviews and performances from 2019 to now and I think chemicals have something to do with it. He seems somewhat disengaged and detached a lot of the time and then has moments where he's almost 'back' and I did wonder if he's 'comfortably numb.' Knowing that he's not teetotal after his brush with alcoholic demise, I think he's not doing himself any favours and has probably lost hope that there's a good life to be had in spite of his circumstances.
      He was looking on good form even in 2019 and a two year decline is a dramatic one - plain health issues don't reduce you from a vibrant personality to the epitome of a half-drugged nontogenarian but the easily available anaesthetics absolutely do...
      In 2019 when his return to solo stage was underway and he seemed his good self he clearly felt well enough to plan this Genesis outing...
      A lot has happened in two years for him... in fact, TO him. And the last time they happened to him tipped him into reclusiveness and booze... Then history repeated itself in the cruellest, most embarrassing, public way it could. And before his comeback could go from strength to strength with the Genesis project, COVID crippled everything... If it hadn't he'd have been on tour while Orianne buggered off again...
      I think what we're seeing is actually not "Phil" as he would inevitably be but rather the result of a very dark place he's been taken where his remaining hope has been shattered and I hope like crazy that he has friends and support around him for this.
      Imagine being in pain, crushed by the toll life has taken on you seemingly so cruelly and unfairly, sick but hopeful that life now has turned a corner and you're finding a way to cope and with your family restored to you, getting back to doing what you love... daring to hope, in interviews, that you might even grow in strength to play your instruments again... then your wife marries someone else secretly, paints you as a vile old cripple, steals your house, starts selling the artifacts of your life and then, already barely able to get around without help, leaves you living out of a suitcase as it were, and frozen in immobility with fragile health in a state of dystopian isolation wondering if your plans will ever get back on rail, even up to the final weeks before the tour begins when everything can go south again for the last time...
      The last time I saw someone of his age with great mental agility and wit in a state like I've seen him in recently, a doctor eventually concluded that the medications were misprescribed and a few weeks later normality was restored...
      I felt like that's what I was seeing on Friday and in my opinion it was evidenced in the fact that as the course of the gig progressed Phil got livelier, sharper, his timing picked up, tonality improved and he started gently air drumming and orchestrating...
      That to me looked like the effects of medication or substance wearing off and corresponded to him finishing the show - again, my opinion - moving more slowly and stiffly than how he started it...
      I cannot comment at all about the people around him who are clearly friends and love him, but I've professionally encountered the entourages around popular personalities who had health difficulties or were somewhat challenged in really being in charge of themselves and knowing how to conduct life on their own (without coaching, direction or support) and there's a strong tendency to just pander, to enable, to leave well alone. I wonder if Phil needs a strong degree of support and direction in that regard and has lost it again. It would take a brave man in his state to not resign to vulnerability in an introverted way and instead to confront and own it and ever trust someone enough to become a life assistant or companion providing that 'grounding'... he won't want to put that on his kids and he clearly thought he was getting that from his reunion and definitely isn't getting it from a wife and will probably never trust anyone again in that regard...
      If this is medication or alcoholic anaesthetic he needs someone to pull him up and to get help out of the depressive state. He's a man lost and he doesn't need to be...
      There's a much greater quality of life to be had, on stage and off, and it would be great to see him discover it. I think he can still get back to 2019 Phil...

      Comes a time in life when there needs to be acceptance not stubbornness. Life in the performing game is long over for Phil. Seeing him try the tambourine hits sitting in a chair really just draws pity here. Very unfortunate.

      Absolute on point comment Karen. I 100 % agree with you. What i don't get about this comments like,: that's tour is a shame, they should stop touring, Phil can't sing anymore is sad... What are these people expecting? Phil, Mike and Tony all of them around 70 years old and they just love to do what they always did there entire life. Play music and it seems like all these comments come from people which are comparing them from tours when they were 30/40 years Old or with maybe the 2006 tour. BUT these person's on stage are the same, which they have always been and they just created that awesome music. So we should celebrate them as long as we can.

    Many people talking about Phil's voice, but some things have to be considered about that :
    - Phil's range today it's the same as Peter. The difference is the tone, while Peter has a deep hoarse voice (which is great), Phil has a more opened nasal tone, which also is great.
    - Phil has never been primarily a singer itself. He was a drummer which had to move on vocals after Peter's departure, doing the thing in the way he could (and his vocal range supported) after all these years, now he's 70 years old perfoming a vocal demanding material from years which his vocals were more high and youth, from 30/40 years old.
    - Phil now has a extra factor limiting his increased perfomance : he's singing while seated, which is something REALLY dificult to maintain tones and ranges, mainly due lungs compressed as he sits, an even greater difficulty for vocally difficult material like the Genesis catalogue.
    Even with all these topics going on, he's nailing it!!
    I really think that the "fans" should stop looking for faults, problems and other issues and appreciate the music he sings and all these material that he, Tony, Mike (and Peter and Steve too) have produced all these years. Unfortunately this is one of the last times we'll see them play on stage, so that's already epic. Genesis forever!

    • @stephenh.4476
      @stephenh.4476 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      For the money these people are paying, it should be a top quality vocal performance. Phil used to have a powerful voice. He doesn’t anymore. It’s health related, unfortunately. There’s no use sugar coating it. We all lose a step, or will at some point, once age or poor health creeps up.

    • @RangerVickyJohnson
      @RangerVickyJohnson 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@stephenh.4476 Frankly, listening to this... he sounds good for his age. Period. There are a lot of guys his age who can't sing nearly as good as they used to. At least Phil is singing in the original key seemingly without much trouble. McCartney strains like crazy anymore... Sting has had to lower all of his keys... Billy Joel's voice is still incredible but MANY of the keys for his songs have been lowered too... Phil's voice sounds weaker, but it still sounds good, IMO.

    • @kelvyn_araujo
      @kelvyn_araujo 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@stephenh.4476 But it's the best vocal perfomance he could do, actually. To be honest, this the best Phil shape i've seen since his comeback in 2015. I know that all these health issues affect heavily on the perfomance (and i really understand some kind of frustration by the fans), but for his age and considering all what happened with him with all these years physically and emotionally (back surgery, fall on his house, betrayal of his wife) he still can do a good perfomance. Anyway, all regards to Phil!

This band, this man has been the soundtrack of most of my life, still a snowman at heart, son Nic doing a sterling job on the drum kit. Yes, Phil is frail, he’s had some tough times but this concert was everything I dreamed and hoped it would be. His voice is older and his pitch not the same but he was spot on with the songs, his backing singers were fabulous. I felt very honoured and emotional to be in their presence. If you know, you know!

    Genesis is my 2nd all time favorite band. They were simply amazing and I was fortunate to see them twice but unfortunately not during the ‘70’s. Seeing Collins like that is very difficult and the only reason I would have agreed would have been with Gabriel and Hackett as a farewell tour. His son Nick does a fantastic job. Thank you Genesis for your music!

Il est très regrettable pour lui qu'il n'ai pas eu les meilleurs médecins. Sans parler de ses traumatismes sentimentaux. Nous l'aimons et je l'aime, je suis une inconditionnelle de Phil : Always in my heart and forever. Respect. Thank you so much for this video.

    The high vocal range of “I can’t dance” is harder for him now. But I could tell he was really trying.
    The second song, however, is bliss. Really touching. Phil has always had an amazingly good vocal range, and he still retains a lot of his beautiful quality in mid range. 😊
