These guys are amazing musicians and are nearing the end of the line. Phil is particularly looking rough, I'm sure he is suffering from something not disclosed on top of his injuries and nerve damage. All the best to all of them.
I saw Genesis live at Leeds Arena last week. There is no video on TH-cam that does justice to how they sound live. Yes Phil’s voice is weaker than it was but what a fantastic show!!! Thanks Tony, Phil & Mike for the memories and for your music for being a huge part of my life since I was 12 years old (Duke album).
One thing that happens is that “we” as fans of bands or athletes or people we hold in regard in our own youth live our lives and don’t see these people much over a 10, 20, 30, 40 year period then our focus comes back to them and they seemed to have aged so much in what seems overnight. Of course it isn’t overnight it was a long time ago that just has seemed to have passed by so quickly. It is hard and makes us reflect on our own aging and mortality. Genesis and the solo albums from all the members of Genesis including Gabriel played a fundamental part of our lives for those of us of a certain age. I am very happy when younger people discover older artists and then that triggers an exploration in them. It is tough to see Phil Collins in decline, but it happens to all of us over time, we all age and he is still doing it in the capacity he can. They don’t owe it to anyone and they all have plenty of money, so it is about love of music, each other, their fans, perhaps legacy. I actually appreciate how a singing voice can change over time and still be beautiful even if it is not as strong as in youth they become even better storytellers.
Saw them in Birmingham last week. Superb. They had two live backing singers to help Phil, who sounded great. Nic was unstoppable. Phil, Tony, and Mike are a little older but it was a pleasure to see them play together. Such a catalog of unbelievable hits
I love Genesis and Phil of course been listening forever and always will. It is mind blowing when you think you'll never get old but we all do it's about time for him to take a break and slow down after all these decades. They have definitely earned it
To me Genesis is not the same without Phil's trademark drumming which has always been an integrated part of their unique sound. A bit like the Stones touring without Charlie Watts. They're both irreplaceable.
I found out they got his son to replace him as a drummer. Probably the best solution in mind to fill his father's boots, probably also able to unmistakably mimic his antics behind the drumkit, thus not being as original and legendary but a great replacement none the less. I know it's not the same but that's life innit? People get old, they get injuries and issues with health. They also die, but as long as Phil Collins's still among us and he's even able to sing live we should be grateful.
We saw Phil in September 2019 when he came through Dallas. Great music as always and the band performed magically. I have always loved Phil Collins and have seen him many times. It was hard to watch. It just felt like a funeral in a way. Fortunately, his sense of humor is still intact. He claimed his neck operation for nerve damage affects his extremities making it difficult to walk and hold sticks. He used to poke fun at comebacks (the final farewell tour/not dead yet). But I really think he wants to do this till he actually stops ticking. Its his heart and soul. The problem is, he will never be able to outdo himself or get even close. He has left us with a lifetime of great music, therapy and things to think about. Genesis on the other hand have also been my favorite (rock?) band. Everyone on the stage has carried on pretty well and must also be out there because its their life as well. I only got to see them in Spring 1992 in Dallas. That introduced me to their back catalog which enhanced my appreciation of their musicianship. I love them but its hard to watch your heroes fade away. I thought Fading Lights was a good wrap up. Anything beyond that could have just been one offs. International touring in your 70's? I'm dizzy just thinking about it. Best of fortune to them all....'Living Forever'.
@@mikemeengs5720 Yeah ... he reminds me of my mum shortly before she died aged 89... well, not exactly, my mum still had a good head of hair... - the way he reacts with surprise to being 'told' it's 14 years since they last played together...
Thank you for this interview, is always great to hear them talk about their past, specially Mr. Tony Banks, who talked about Wind & Wuthering, one of my favorite tracks is One for the Vine, glad to hear that they love hearing the music on shows as well, i remember this bad remake of Groundhog Day having The Brazillian in there... One thing i would've asked the guys, The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway movie when? At least they made a new version of the title track, not very good but i bet that Peter Gabriel will be involved on it if its ever recorded on a studio, after all, is his composition and Tony's.
I'm so sad I've never been able to see them. When they were on tour in 2007 I was 7 years old and didn't know they existed, and when they finally started touring again in 2021 I was too tied up with work as I'd just become a nurse. One of the greatest bands of all time.
I've loved this band since I first saw them in 1972 at the Free Trade hall in mcr, then on the abacab tour and now the last domino tour, imho the Best Band Britain has produced
I must say that the Steve Hackett Seconds Out show and his latest album is absolutely superb. Also to anyone wondering whether to go and see The Musical Box do The Lamb....it is incredible.
Bought tickets just last night (29 Sept 2021) for November 20. Can barely contain myself! My 19 year old Son will be there along with me. Great Music spans generations!
I love Phil, I really do, but his heart isn't in this and he seems so tired and sick. I'm not going to go see them live this time. I saw them in 2007 and that is how I want to remember them. This just makes me sad.
Hi James, what you say is correct and what is written about Phil’s performance is true. I saw them and I’m glad I did even though I thought similar to you. This is the best they can be today. You can say goodbye to them and enjoy the amazing music live for 2:15. I’m sure Phil knows his vocals have diminished as would the rest of the group, but there is still enough left to enjoy them. Just! Grab a (expensive!) ticket and prove me wrong! Last chance!
James I know what you are saying. But trust me the body and voice isn't always there when the will still is. This is my Dad in 2018. He left us in May this year. At this time of life, every note is worth it. m.th-cam.com/video/Gg1xF47v8qk/w-d-xo.html
I saw them in 2007 as well & that’s also how I wanted to remember them. Phil was singing in a lower key but he could still walk around and play the drums. And as much as I’m glad that he’s still out there making other fans happy, it’s just really hard to watch one of my biggest musical heroes struggle so much. So I’m gonna sit this one out as well. But I wish him all the best & hope his health improves.
Awsome - "Home By The Sea - Home By The Sea". I met Mike at Anita Roddick's white summer party some years ago. He was behind me in the queue for the buffet, and salmon coated in almonds was the one we both wanted. A smashing bloke!

15 years since the last time they played, but hell it looks like 30 years for Phil. He seems to have aged faster than the rest of the band. Love all of them, but I wonder if Phil is suffering from more than just back pain. Mad respect for this last tour.
I play drums and sing at the same time and the only reason I started doing that was because of seeing Phil Collins doing it with In the air tonight. With a minor exception he's a lefty and has a unique voice like no other.I love you Phil as I know I'm one of many millions who do. Once you climb that mountain and look from the top, then you slowly come down like your doing now. You'll always be in my heart
looking forward to seeing them again for the last time ,seen then at wembley 1987,twichenham2007.,roll on newcastle 1st ocotober ,,thanks for the music guys
Good for them... I wish I could have been to one of these shows. I don't know if the band has anything to do with it, but the recordings showing up online are at least something to see for those who can't make it. I know it's not the same... the fans at the show know too. But I think we're all saying thank you for entertaining us for so very long. I'm sure it's a real treat for Phil to tour with Nic. I've been able to watch a lot of interviews over the last several months spanning the decades. It seems that being a Genesis fan is, at times, being a Tony Banks fan... you know?
I agree, they must have heard all these questions 1000's of times before and although the interviewer was pleasant some of her questions were a inane. Of course playing in front of an audience would give you a lift, so why ask it!
For fucks sake! Phil is barely alive...Why is this tour happening?? Let the man rest. You guys have nothing to prove. We will love you from Genesis to forever. Go home, put your feet on your tables and congratulate yourselves with a life WELL DONE!
They started planning this tour almost 2 years ago. I think Phil’s health was better then (or at least not this bad). Planning and preparing for a major tour like this, after a decade away, at their age, requires a huge investment of money and time. Money was likely the primary reason for them deciding to tour again in the first place (ie, they either need it or really want it), so as long as Phil is still drawing breath, they’re going to do the tour. Canceling it now would probably be financially catastrophic for them.
If Phil drops dead during the tour (a real possibility given his current state) at least he goes out doing what he loves and playing with his old mates and his son. Is it necessarily better for him to simply sit at home and wait for death? Johnny Cash went out recording, mentoring and giving what he had left and enjoying the warmth of the fans and music world for his contributions, now Phil is in that stage of his career and life. They may need the dough, too, especially to leave to their families after they're gone. If they can be up on stage and are willing, let them have at it.
@@humanbeing2420 Phil Collins net worth: 300m $, Tony Banks net worth: 60m $, Mike Rutherford Net worth: 60m $. Serms unlikely that money was the reason.
@@zyxwut321 I see what you're saying. But it just seems like Tony and Mike want this so much more then Phil (i might be wrong). Further more, wasn't the 2007 string of shows the perfect end to a long career? Vital, tight and fun shows. Granted, Tony and Mike are still playing really well. But Collins can't even play a tambourine in time and needs backup singers to mask his sub-par performance. And let's be honest: He requires truckloads of good-will from the fans who are defending him being a shadow of his good old self. This is my opinion, but i just can't seem to grasp why anyone thought this would be a good idea.
@@scumboi78 How accurate are those figures though? They can estimate how much an artist grosses in a tour year, but there are many other factors that determine a person’s net worth. What are their expenses? Did they lose money via risky investments or costly divorce settlements (Phil’s been through several marriages, hasn’t he)? Also, people with high net worth typically live a lifestyle that requires them to continue making the kind of money that allowed them to begin living that type of lifestyle in the first place. They often own homes, cars and planes that require maintenance and upkeep and are very expensive to insure. They likely employ help - cooks, assistants, drivers, maids. Thats expensive. So a high net worth doesn’t eliminate the need or the desire for more money - it tends to increase that need and desire.
Going to see them in Liverpool next week! My mum wants to see them and she's 73! My God, poor Phil has aged, I was only watching him the other week in Buster 😁
💙It's brilliant that these beloved geniuses wanted to play for their adoring fans and give them 1 more chance to see them live!! Plus it's 1 more "Horrah!!" for them as they slow down and enjoy a less strenuous schedule. What breaks my heart is that Phil can never drum again!!😭😭😭 HOW do you stop doing what you've LOVED for 60 years?!?!? Yeah, he was doing 85% singing anyway, but to NOT be able to pick up sticks and do a drum solo, or jam with his son, or just bang about in frustration when he gets home from a bad day!?! 😖😤😭 His reputation, legacy and records/videos will live forever!!! (As will the other Genesis musicians!🥰👏) Phil's NOT dead yet and I imagine he's got a lot of ideas, offers, and projects to keep him from getting bored!! All I hope is that he is able to get some good medical Marijuana and he'll be smiling that beautiful smile again!! Lots of love and best wishes, and many many thanks for brightning our lives!! 🥰👏 "Always"🥰👑Phil. Alllwaaays❣️🥰😘
Having heard the concert, I'm so glad these guys decided to do it for us! Hearing negative people comment on how "they shouldn't have done it" like they are speaking for the fan base at large is just ridiculous. Of course they should have done it. Of course Phil isn't the phenomenon that he was in 1987 at Wembley, and yes they have had to detune the performance for that, but bottom line it is still Genesis performing a great show. I loved it and am so glad they did it. I can't wait to see it live in Boston in December! What a thrill to get a chance to see these guys perform live together again!
Absolutely. They may be older but they are still my band that I started listening to in 77 as a teenager and as I grew up so did they. My miserable life has been britend buy these gentlemen. The soundtrack of my life. Thank you guys I don't think I would have made it without you. And thanks for all the memories guys ✌️
@Tom Edwards I have no idea what you said personally, but many, many have been negative. These guys have been practicing for well over a year to bring this show to us. I think that whole decision was pretty much up to them and their families. It's up to us whether we want to spend our hard earned cash to reward them for that hard work and appreciate their efforts. That's an easy decision for me. I'll be there.
If Wind and Wuthering is Tony's favourite Genesis album, it's perhaps surprising they aren't playing a bit more of it in the Last Domino? tour, instead of leaving it to Steve Hackett and his band. With the emphasis more on instrumentals, 'Unquiet Slumbers' would have fitted in well while 'Blood on the Rooftops' would have been great as part of the acoustic set.
Like Phil's opinion, Duke is my favorite of their albums too. Because it was both recorded in my hometown Stockholm and many of the songs like my favorite Turn it on again took the music into a new era.
Went to Manchester so doubtful, more just so i could say id seen them, being a younger fan. Phil is frail, but bar a couple of songs he still sounded pretty great. Plus its visually amazing, and Nic aced it on drums. If youre not sure, go….
Any concert on a tour can be the last gig a band ever plays. Phil loves music too much and will perform as long as his health can sustain it, or till he dies on stage! This was my prediction in the 90's and is still my prediction in 2021.
"The leader of the Band is tired and his songs are growing old" this is my favorite band, but I have to admit they are old, they are tired as they come across, I rather keep them in my memory, and that is that.
Tony looks fantastic for his age. Mike is holding up well, but poor Phil looks like an end stage cancer person. It’s shocking how bad he looks and especially since they’re literally all the same age. I miss the 80s and 90s Phil. I have come to realize his last wife just sucked the life out of him literally. Choices have consequences sadly. I love Phil and hope he can find some peace now. He gave us so much of his life. He was always the energizer bunny and now seems distracted and uninvolved. So different from how he used to be. It’s like he’s just there in body only. Sad that his voice is shot also. Getting old is not for suckers that’s for sure.
@@tableface77I thought he had peaks as a drummer. Certainly the period you mentioned and I thought his playing was very strong from 1990 on his solo tour through the 'WCD' tour in 1992.
Phil's drumming on the live version of The lamb from "Genesis Archives 67-75" is absolutely brilliant. That version probably has some studio overdubs on it, but I've heard a few bootleg tapes of The Lamb with just the raw mix, and they are equally great regarding the drumming part. I absolutely agree that it is very sad to see him in this state, as he's obviously struggling with some very serious health issues. As a side note, for me The Lamb took some years to fully "digest", but now I regard it as one of the best Genesis albums of all times. It really has some great songs on it, although I'm still not quite convinced about the concept bit ...
@@attepotterrmmefiremerkersm68: I never liked or completely understood the concept and like you, it's taken some time to fully digest it musically. But it has some fantastic moments on it that I was wish they were still willing to play live.
I sincerely hope this will be their last ! loving the band as I do since the early seventies even this tour is one too far you’ve got to know when the time is to let it lie
I've been a fan of Genesis since 1971 and their farewell tour in 2007 was superb. I could live with that and I am very greatful for all the music they produced during all those years. But what they are doing now is sucking all the life out of Phil, who is medically not fit to do such a performance. It reminds me of that awful last boxing match between Muhammad Ali and Larry Holmes, and we all know the consequences. That should never have taken place and therefore I'm afraid history is going to repeat itself. I want to remember Phil as he was, and NOT how he is going to end. The rest of the band should protect Phil against himself and let him compose new songs at his home for others to perform. I call that a win-win situation.
I see not so many people understand that Phil's mental health is the main reason for this tour. He need it and it does a lot of good for him. After crazy un-healthy time he's doing the only thing he still enjoys, surrounded by his son and all-life friends, with a routine and schedule, and giving the fans a last oportunity to see them live (and giving and enough good show to making it worthy). My respects to all of them.
The best sounding (sonically, best recording) albums in my opinion are Lamb, Selling England, Trick of the Tail, And Then There Were 3, and Duke. Also, We Can't Dance had some nice sound with pop/prog hybrid songs by the Genesis Trio. And yes, I count Phil as an original member for bringing the drums, and the rhythm section, alive on their breakout 3rd LP, Foxtrot. By the way, the remastered CD of Duke sounds inferior compared to the original album recording in my opinion.
Alright competition time folks......... Who was the lead singer of Genesis before Phil Collins? Send your your answers to the Peter Gabriel competition.........
If I ever, EVER did meet them in person, I would respond with “thank you, for being a huge part of my life”

They don’t owe it to anyone and they all have plenty of money, so it is about love of music, each other, their fans, perhaps legacy. I actually appreciate how a singing voice can change over time and still be beautiful even if it is not as strong as in youth they become even better storytellers.
This man is a legend. As are the group. One of a kind.
Tony is happy to be the enthusiastic spokesman for the band!
Actually Banks is and always was the background leader of Genesis
Saw them in Birmingham last week. Superb. They had two live backing singers to help Phil, who sounded great. Nic was unstoppable. Phil, Tony, and Mike are a little older but it was a pleasure to see them play together. Such a catalog of unbelievable hits
Tony banks is still at the top of his game on keyboards
Imagine meeting these three in person. Wow.
Phil Collins, All the fans very happy for you back on the stage.
Banks looks great for 71 wow
I love Genesis and Phil of course been listening forever and always will. It is mind blowing when you think you'll never get old but we all do it's about time for him to take a break and slow down after all these decades. They have definitely earned it
Love the boys dry wit, Hope they rock!
First and foremost, Phil is a drummer and a great one. Him not being able to play and having to sit in a chair to sing is just plain sad!!
Fantastic he is still willing and able to do so and great to see his son drumming, as it should be.
November can't come soon enough. Have tickets to see them for the first time.
Saw them last night in Charlotte, absolutely incredible
@@BodaciousBro28 wasn't it an awesome show. Missed Rush in Greensboro 2019. Couldn't let that happen with these guys.
*Champing* at the bit is the idiom. I love Genesis.
So sad 🤔 ! Phil and company you all are great ! Stay strong and healthy for your tour ! Love you guys and thank you ✌️😀❤️
Thank you Mr Collins 🙏
I proposed to my wife during the Lamb tour at the Empire Liverpool during the set. Thanks guys.
which song? :)
@@amitraam1270 Counting out time.
He’s not skint! He earned ten times as much from his solo work than he ever made from Genesis.
Phil doesn’t look like he’s going to make the end of the interview, let alone the tour
There's nothing you can do when you're the next in line...
@@HighlandMike325 When you gotta go, Domino.
Yeah...it's sad. He looks like my dad did before he passed.
@@mikemeengs5720 Yeah ... he reminds me of my mum shortly before she died aged 89... well, not exactly, my mum still had a good head of hair...
- the way he reacts with surprise to being 'told' it's 14 years since they last played together...
When he does the ‘old man’ voice, to say they’ve been a band for 50 years, it doesn’t sound much different than his other words..
Outstanding musicians
Sadly, he looks like my father did just before he popped his clogs.
I've seen a few interviews on this same day in this studio and maybe he was running out of enthusiasm for answering questions at this point!

Such fine gentlemen!
Was lucky enough to go to Liverpool and Manchester they were amazing and a privilege to see them again
15 years since the last time they played, but hell it looks like 30 years for Phil. He seems to have aged faster than the rest of the band. Love all of them, but I wonder if Phil is suffering from more than just back pain. Mad respect for this last tour.
He's looking very rough, I really do hope he's okay. Maybe a touch dementia.
Looks like problems on the liver since he's looking quite yellow in this vid.
Definitely thought the same. At points he looks miles away... Worrying.

Love Genesis!!!!!
I wish him fast recovery and the best rehabilitation!
@shano he isn't feel so well
Good for them... It seems that being a Genesis fan is, at times, being a Tony Banks fan... you know?
Agree…Banks and Rutherford are the heart and soul of Genesis and Phil is the body
Christ, that was hard work.
I agree, they must have heard all these questions 1000's of times before and although the interviewer was pleasant some of her questions were a inane. Of course playing in front of an audience would give you a lift, so why ask it!
Love these guys !
Muchas gracias por todo lo hermoso que me transmitieron a través de tu voz y tu música!!! GENIOS TOTALES!!!
Thanks Phil, Tony, Mike and the other one...
Love Tony giving Phil props to Phil writing Man On The Corner Wind and Wuthering Tony should give Mike writing Your Own Specia Way
5:56 Phil's face breaks my heart, He looks so old and sick.
Thank you 👍❤️Genesis i love you.❤️
Poor Phil he’s clearly not feeling good
He sang for over 2 hours last night. Don't be fooled lol
Is like Freddie he performs till the end god protect this nonrepleacebles genious!!!!

Edited for sloppy spelling.
His reputation, legacy and records/videos will live forever!!! (As will the other Genesis musicians!🥰👏)
Phil's NOT dead yet and I imagine he's got a lot of ideas, offers, and projects to keep him from getting bored!!
Phil looks a million miles away
Probably because of his scum of an ex-wife.
Good talking to you.
Tony Banks just confirmed further new dates by saying he'll be 72 years old before the tour ends.
Yes thats the way I'm interpreting it too!!
"The leader of the Band is tired and his songs are growing old" this is my favorite band, but I have to admit they are old, they are tired as they come across, I rather keep them in my memory, and that is that.
yes Tony chuckle at those watered down arrangements of your truly amazing creations
A wonderful amazing band but theres a couple of people sadly missing, to make me want to go see them .
Tony looks 60 ish, Mike 70 ish. But poor Phil looks 80 +.
Phil used to cite ‘The Lamb’ as his favorite.
He definitely said he really enjoyed playing the Lamb live and mentioned that he'd reached his peak as a drummer during the tour for the Lamb.
@@tableface77I thought he had peaks as a drummer. Certainly the period you mentioned and I thought his playing was very strong from 1990 on his solo tour through the 'WCD' tour in 1992.
I don’t remember him saying it was amongst his favorites, but he has said he is very proud of his work on it.
I'll be there
When i was young i dreamed i sing along side phill Collins one day
I sincerely hope this will be their last ! loving the band as I do since the early seventies even this tour is one too far you’ve got to know when the time is to let it lie
WHAT IS THE GIG PHILL AND MIKE WOULD PICK?????????
Good men. Enough said.
I can’t watch this. Phil really doesn’t look like he’ll make it through this interview never mind the tour. Tony looks like he’s thinking the same.
Phil is heavily medicated for pain I think 😔
