    "Sometimes the best man for the job is a woman!" Your video was very helpful, more clear than two others I watched in which guys struggled with wrenches to remove the filter. I'm headed back outside to remove the bracket. Thank you!

    Love how you change your oil yourself unlike most people that just take it to a shop, especially ladies. Good job.

    It really helps to have an oil filter wrench for this job. The filter can be slick and having any grip is hard from the angle you will have to approach from. You can get to the filter from under the hood just have to wiggle your arm and hand in the right spot.

    Thanks for the assist, the owners manual doesn't show you where the drain plug is located. Side note: i didn't take the bracket off during the process. Taking out the filter was fine and dandy but putting it back in was another story, since it's lubed up it's hard to get a good tightness on it. Definitely take off the bracket if you have one, it'll be a bit of assurance that you have a good fit on it.

      So get urself a can of brake cleaner...spray it down when its as tight as u can get it while oily.

    I was able to get to the filter from the top with my hands on my MSM. There wasn't a lot of room and I had top remove the strut brace and other stuff.

    First thing that you want to do is open up the engine oil fill cap.

    When putting the bracket back is there a specific torque value you’re supposed to use?

    Good job on the oil change and the video. I’ve done tons of oil changes but none recently as it’s a PITA to discard oil. I have a 2004 MX5 Mazdaspeed and all the equipment so maybe I’ll give it w whirl. 👍

      I just wait until I have 4-5 gals. and take them and the used filters during a normal Walmart trip. They and our neighborhood parts stores accept oil and filters.

    Year make and model for oil agreed but remember that different oils act differently in certain weather conditions.

    First warm up the engine so oil can flow faster out of engine, open oil cap, drain oil, unscrew oil filter, take new filter and put oil around gasket, little oil inside filter and screw on hand tight. Replace plug after inspecting for metal shards on plug. Tighten to specs…add 4 quarts of oil and replace oil cap

    Hello thanks for vid! Have a 2000 Mazda Miata 1.8l and I was wondering about that bar above your engine? What is it called? Mine does not have one :S

    • @Heatherrr
      @Heatherrr  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Joe Casiano are you talking about the strut bar? It's supposed to keep the chassis rigid when Corning but I've read debates that it has no real benefit for Miatas other than cosmetics. Either way I dig it. I will hopefully post an intercooler mounting vid soon. You can get some ideas for your car😁

      Heather De La Cruz. lol Wow I knew that 😰 just couldn't remember. You getting aluminum radiator? When you do make video mention brand and $$$price please. I will definitely keep 👀 watching. I have a P0171 and P0420 code right now something about catalytic converter being bad so maybe I should do vid when I find out how to fix. 👍 Good job and keep ot up!

    It's awesome to see a woman (pretty woman) work on a car, you should consider using Castrol 5w 30 instead and a Wix filter. Check out the research on Wix. The 99 is the best Miata in my opinion, absolutely love those cars

    • @Shazzkid

    From the 2003 Miata owner's manual chapter 8, page 15:
    "Changing oil filter
    Because you need a special tool to tighten the filter, an Authorized Mazda Dealer should do the work."
    Comments?

    • @Heatherrr
      @Heatherrr  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +jeffersonianideal I won't tell you not to follow the manufacturer's manual for liability reasons however, I think it's a gimmick. Of course they will tell you to bring it in to the dealer. That's another revenue stream. I always change the Oil myself and there's nothing special about it. Screw off and screw on. Unless the '03 is different-which I don't think it is. Mine is a 99 and I can only tell you what I've worked on. I've never had the need to research Oil changes because for the most part they are all the same. The only difference I've come across is that some cars will have just the cartridge filter and you MIGHT need a special tool to remove the permanent housing, like my old mk4 gti-which I would change myself as well. Most of the time I don't listen to the manufacturer because I don't want to pay someone to do something I can figure out myself. I think online forums are the best users manual for diy

    • @jeffersonianideal
      @jeffersonianideal 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I can certainly understand why a special tool might be necessary to remove the old oil filter. A special tool to install the new filter sounds like Mazda corporation attempting to zoom the customer.

    • @Shazzkid
      @Shazzkid 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Its bollocks, u can buy a strap wrench or oil filter socket for like 5 bucks man, that's their "special tool"
