      Yes. If half of pharaohs have heart problems and pharaohs were related the first thing I would think about would be genetics. Just to think that he implies that half of Egyptian population had heart problems.

      Lol right? I agree!
      And even if the inbreeding wasn’t the actual cause, the fact that the Pharos are all related makes it likely that they’d all have common hereditary health issues.
      My sister and I both have high blood pressure... because both of our parents and all four of our grandparents had high blood pressure. It just runs in the family lol. I imagine things might be worst if we were all inbred, though.

    •  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Ehh... The Ancient Aegyptian, or Kemetic beliefs about the afterlife, and their burial rituals were a little more complex than "didn't want him to be hungry in the Afterlife." I'm not an expert in Kemetic religion, but friends who are tell me it's not wrong to summarise the practice of entombing those of a certain socal class with a moderate hoarde of foodstuffs as "kind of like a potluck, where, as the Pharaohs took care of their people in life, they are expected to do the same in the Afterlife," cos in the few mummified "commoners" we've found, even in the _very_ few left relatively undisturbed, we see a lot less in terms of Grave Goods they carry the essence of into the Afterlife.

      Who suggested that the Egyptians ate only bread? No one did, that's who. Are you arguing against the Egyptian's own records of eating bread and rations of bread given out??? Are you suggesting that the Egyptian desert was home to thundering herds of cattle and oxen, making it a common meal for the upper classes? Could the beef and poultry rations not have been specially given to King Tut for the purposes of placating the gods in the afterlife instead of being indicative of daily diet? Alexander the Great defeated the Egyptians and placed his own general, Ptolemy, on the throne....thus the Ptolemaic dynasty (Cleopatra was Greek!). Are you suggesting their observations about the Egyptians being bread eaters is wrong? Really???

      it was mentioned in the original video that they had a ovo-lacto-vegetarian diet. You need chickens for eggs and cows for milk. If there was pork or mutton maybe I would agree with you as, pigs are exclusively used for meat and sheep kinda mostly for meat because how much wool may someone from ancient Egypt times need.

      @@anewagora Perhaps you aren't familiar with what true Keto is?
      Keto is high fat, Moderate protein, Very low carb.
      In order to get energy for the body it needs an alternative to glucose.
      That energy comes from burning fat which produces Ketones.
      Ketones replace Glucose.
      In order to get Ketones you eliminate as many carbs as possible - usually below 20grams of carbs per day.
      In addition to dietary changes, one also needs to engage in what is called "Intermittent Fasting". This practice of fasting super charges the state of Ketosis.
      You don't need carbohydrates to build muscle. You need a balance of protein, good nutrition in whole food, high quality fats, exercise, and fasting.
      High performance athletes on a Ketogenic regimen do not need carbohydrates to build muscle.

    • @anewagora
      @anewagora 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@skippylippy547 I know what keto is. I've tried it and did pretty well but I have a hard time gaining weight and building muscle and keto was too extreme. Living on coconut oil and avocados while not being able to drink more than one coconut water a day for the very low carb limit was hardcore. It's certainly feasible to adapt and it doesn't feel as extreme anymore, but I find it's not ideal for me. I think most people will do pretty well with a low carb high fat paleo diet that's much more accessible. But I also think there is no one diet for all people and different diets work for different people.

    • @annapejskova1976
      @annapejskova1976 3 ปีที่แล้ว +32

      A graph can have whatever y values with whatever x values. What you're talking about are functions (functions take x values and assign them unique y values based on a rule). I don't agree with the guy, just talking about terminology.

    • @nova_supreme8390
      @nova_supreme8390 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@annapejskova1976 You are correct. Graph is a generalized term for presenting data which does not necessitate it presenting a function. Here the graph is practically a function as it is an approximation how those those variables correlate. If you used computer software, you would then be able to extract function for that graph. That is how that types of graphs are generally used. This is just to provide extra context for my earlier comment.

    • @CasshernSinz1613
      @CasshernSinz1613 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      you're correct and yet you missed the point entirely of why he did that. Yes, it was totally nonsensical. Even his fans (like myself) know that. That's the point. The trend line that Unnatural Vegan unironically made me so mad because she seriously believes that trend line proves something other than that the data is inconclusive at best and downright garbage at worst. That trend line's margin of error makes it unusable and yet THIS STUDY WAS CONSIDERED GOOD.
      Seriously, look at that graph again and tell me why people actually concluded that higher fat % of calorie intake had any relationship to heart disease fatalities. Several countries with near equal fat % intake to the USA had several times FEWER deaths of heart disease. The only thing that graph proved was that life-style choices make up the biggest difference in heart disease. That's it. None of the data had reasonable margins of error to even make the case that higher fat intake made any difference in heart disease and yet that was exactly what Time magazine reported and what thousands of doctors and dietitians said was true for decades before they only JUST started reversing that perspective for the past 20yrs.

    While not a perfect study, as no studies are perfect, Ancel Keys, along with Dr. Ivan Frantz, also ran the Minnesota Coronary Experiment. The randomized controlled study was completed but not initially published. It was actually published 40 years after completion. The experiment was performed in a nursing home and six state mental hospitals. The 9,423 study participants, ages 20 to 97 were put on a diet that replaced saturated fat with polyunsaturated fat. Because they were in institutions, their diets were controlled. The result was that the intervention group had a significant reduction in serum cholesterol (as will happen with the inclusion of polyunsaturated fat), but there was a 22% higher risk of death for each 30mg/dl reduction in serum cholesterol.

    Regardless of whether or not ancient Egyptians had heart disease or not, it is also not really possible to compare a grain based diet from back then to one someone would be on now! Especially with wheat, the strains we grow and use commonly now for our breads, etc are way less fibrous and have more basic structural components! This has been done purposefully through selective breading over time in order to make breads that are more palatable, but that also means they have become easier for the intestinal tract to absorb. With a less complex composition of less minerals and fibers, your body is able to extract more of the pure carbs from it. Bread today is not equal to the bread that was being made in history, and you can’t behave as if it is. Bread used to be a way healthier meal staple that was hearty and kept you full and didn’t get almost completely absorbed by your gut. And yeah, you shouldn’t be eating tons of modern bread with every meal, but carbs are still important! They are considered an essential macronutrient for a reason!!! Your body needs them!!!

    lol so he took egyptian mummies, who were vastly the upper ruling class. And from that assumed that those are representing the whole population? That's like seeing Henry VIII and from that assumed that every early modern british person was too fat to sit a horse. And that every european over the past couple centuries must have had horrific genetic diseases because that's what pops up in a lot of royal families?
    Also, yes, grains where super super important to the ancient egyptians. Because it was literally what kept them alive. It constituted most of their economy because thanks to the nile they had an incredibly stable agriculture and could export their surplus effectively. They were super into beer, for which you need grains. Beer was drunk for almost every meal and also used in religious ceremonies. And lo an behold, it also fed their cattle. So... huge surprise that they depict grain production in their culture? Sure.

    When he said that every carbohydrate is just glucose and is bad if this is in our bloodstream, I just facepalmed. Does this doctor even know that glucose is the fuel of our brain? They're just thinking to easy and one sided. There ist so much more about Carbohydrates than just the glucose in our bloodstream. Yeah of course you can live mostly on fat, but it's not a sustainable and not healthy way long term.
    I was a really impressable teenager and I just believed the magazines who just said that carbohydrates in general are bad and that they just make you fat. Years and years I was so afraid about eating carbohydrate and ended up eating low carb. I know that for some people it works, but it didn't work for me. I just didn't had energy, was always tired and hungry and absolutely couldn't concentrate. But I sticked with it because "carbohydrates are so bad".
    I started to do research on my own and was so surprised about how important carbohydrates are for your body and started to study nutrition science at a university.
    Even I know better now I sometimes have moments where I think: "Oh I shouldnt eat rice with my chickpea curry because it both have carbohydrates"... It's sad but I'm in therapy now and this thought are getting better. It's not good that there are people out there who spread this kind of "information" on a platform like TH-cam with many young impressable people and I'm really glad that there are TH-camr like you who try to warn others to not blindly listen to those people.

    Without knowing much about the subject, I'd guess that one can't extrapolate a whole society's diet from its wealthiest members.
    Rich Egyptians were the most able to access proper embalming techniques thus more likely preserving their bodies up to modern times. Until recently, wealthy members of society ate more decadently. At the very least, they were not telling examples of that society's diet.

    its so weird how body shape and size has determined one's social position in the past, and even today. like, the thinner you were - the poorer you were. nowadays, the bigger you are the poorer you are. (of course thats not the entire truth. bodies are diverse and wealth and social status dont inheritly determine your size - thats not how things actually work.)
    but the wealthy have more expendable time to focus on their weight and more money to but healthier foods. its so strange how healthy foods have also become a sort of status symbol.

    I'm a neuro & my partner's an ER doc & we burst into laughter at multiple times during this vid. I can't believe any licensed physician would be making the statements this individual made. I... hope he doesn't treat any patients

    • @tkps

      I don't see what's so hilarious tbh. It makes sense. I suffer from constipation due to long term opiate use for a back injury. Whilst i agree softeners can make sense, bulking up my stool with laxatives actually makes things worse for the reasons given. It makes them bigger and therefore very difficult and painful to pass. I am terrified of laxatives. My GP encouraged it at first but constant attempts caused pain and fear. He told me to stop. Ridiculing something when not affected or deciding it is 'outrageous' is one of the reasons why new theory takes so long to go widespread. Different strokes and all that.

    Ok, I'm half way through, I don't know if you're still going to touch on this, but the whole point of carbs is that they can be broken down into Glucose (which our brains really freaking love and need) but aren't just straight up Glucose, which immediately puts you into a sugar rush. When you eat pure sugar it starts getting into your bloodstream in your mouth (I swear I sound smarter in German). But complex carbohydrates don't do that, your spit can't break them down enough, so the Glucose in them doesn't start to get released until it's truly reached your digestive system where it gets released SLOWLY, not causing a spike in blood sugar. This is literally nutrition 101, I learnt this stuff in highschool.

    i'm a type 1 diabetic, and a lot of the online guidelines about diets include bread and pasta and cookies, not because doctors believe that its the best thing for diabetes blood sugar management, but because it's how normal people tend to eat. being diagnosed with diabetes is very isolating and scary, suddenly you have to think constantly about your food. diabetics have a much higher depression and suicide rate because living with a chronic illness is hard. having a normal diet and being able to eat the way your friends do, alleviates that.
    anecdotal evidence, but, i've tried very low carb/keto diets before, and i dont know why but i still needed to take SO much insulin and my blood sugars were constantly high. i've found that eating about 100g of carbs keeps my insulin sensitivity high.
    there is no cure for diabetes, nothing you eat will ever make it go away. there is no diet that will cure you. as long as you take your insulin, you can eat whatever you want.

      it actually tricked me too when i first saw this channel. but my whole life i have been pretty obsessed with learning about health and nutrition. i remember when i was young (about 13) i had to force my mom to buy the original kashi (i belive it was kashi anyway) cereal and the rest of my family was like "why do you want to eat sticks and twigs cereal?!?" well because it was the only cereal around that had whole grains in it and wasn't highly processed with pounds of sugar. XD
      but after i watched a few of the videos i quickly realized how biased this persons channel is and that he does not represent most of the studies he cites correctly. its kind of crazy about people these days. the ones who want to believe what they want to believe will believe anything that agrees with them, or they will warp things into agreeing with them and then the rest of the people are just like "yeah this guy said so and he cited this and this and sounded like he had authority so i believe it."

      Any time I encounter a new channel that's trying to teach me something, the first thing I do after watching the video (if it's good enough to hook me) is check their video history. I watched their video on vegetable oil and it's decently well researched and fair, no knock against it specifically (tho I'm certainly not gonna take it as the final word on the subject), but after looking at their history is extremely clear that there is a specific agenda being pushed. Everyone has a bias of course. Sometimes, like the current channel we're on, that agenda is pretty straightforwardly obvious (she's got "vegan" right in the channel name!) but I'm much less of a fan of channels that try to hide their bias behind neutrality, especially when a bit of digging is all it takes to show it. That usually sets off alarm bells for me

    Most of the so called "refined carbs" are also high fat. If you replace saturated fat with plain white rice or plain white pasta (no added animal fat or oil) plus vegetables, that is absolutely healthier than a stick of butter and vegetables or a tub of lard and vegetables. Refined "carbs" like cookies, pastries, donuts, chips, pies, and ice cream are high fat.

      And you'll be hungry again in an hour and eat more. Replace some of that pasta with protein and fat you'll be full for 5-6 hours (on the same amount of calories)

    • @tkps
      @tkps 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is clear you have an agenda. You don't care about facts. A stick of butter and vegetables will ensure you get what little nutrients there are in those vegetables into your system via the butter along with its nutrients. All the refined carbs you mention have VEGETABLE OILS in them, not fat except maybe the icecream depending on who made it. Too much omega 6 (plant oils mostly) is the cause of excess inflammation in the arteries which is why cholesterol and calcium etc goes to 'fix' it in turn possibly causing unintended blockages leading to possible heart attacks/strokes. None of this is as straight forward as you think.

      @@christina7454 I can eat 2500 calories of plain white rice and I feel completely full and satisfied and don't feel hungry again for at least another 18 hours. Most of the time I eat 100% whole carbs like quinoa, oats, whole wheat pasta, potatoes, sweet potatoes, and fruit, but even when I eat a big meal of white rice, I can stay full and satisfied for at least 18 hours if not longer. I can eat 2000 calories of plain potatoes or sweet potatoes or anywhere from 2000-3000 calories of rice, quinoa, oats, or whole wheat pasta depending on how hungry I am and stay full for at least 18 hours. There also is plenty of protein and fat in all of those. 2000 calories of rice has 44 grams of protein and 15 grams of fat. 2000 calories of potatoes has 42 grams of protein and 3 grams of fat, 2000 calories of quinoa has 77 grams of protein and 33 grams of fat, 2000 calories of oats has 70 grams of protein and 34 grams of fat, 2000 calories of whole wheat pasta has 80 grams of protein and 23 grams of fat, 2000 calories of garbanzo beans has 108 grams of protein and 32 grams of fat. 2000 calories of lentils have 6 grams of fat and 155 grams of protein. If you eat 2000+ calories of whole grains, legumes, and or starchy vegetables, you can easily get more than enough protein and a decent amount of fat even without high fat plant foods. I would eat a little more fat from nuts or avocados if I felt like I needed it but I don't. 5-15% fat work's perfectly for me. Some days I only eat fruit which is even less protein and fat and even then I don't have to eat more than once or twice a day and can fast for at least 18 hours.

      @@tkps 200 calories of vegetables have far more nutrients than 2,000 calories of butter, lard, beef tallow, and duck fat. Butter has Vitamin A and that's it. That's it's only strength. It only has a moderate amount of Vitamin E that you could easily get way more of in green vegetables and sweet potatoes. 2000 calories of butter has 6.5 mg of E, and 2000 calories of sweet potatoes has 24.7 mg, almost 4 times as much per calorie as butter. Just 200 calories of broccoli has 11.5 mg of E, 17 times higher per calorie than butter. The amount of Vitamin D in butter is a joke. 2000 calories of butter gives you only 150 IU of D, which is nothing. You need 1000 IU a day at the very minimum. No food can give you enough, whether plant or animal foods. You need sunlight or a supplement. There is k2 which has not proven to be essential, and even if it were you can get much more from natto and other plant sources. Why are there meat eaters who take MK7 supplements? They apparently don't think animal foods have enough. So other than preformed A and K2, neither of which are essential, you get nothing else, even if you ate 2000 calories of it. All the other animal fats like beef tallow, lard, and duck fat don't even have vitamin A or Vitamin K. They are completely empty. They just have tiny amounts of Vitamin E that you could easily get far more of in plant foods like broccoli and sweet potatoes and others. 2000 calories of beef tallow has only 60 IU of Vitamin D, which is nothing. 2000 calories of lard has 226 IU, which is not nearly enough, and if you ate that much lard, you would get nothing else, so it's empty calories. Duck fat has 430 IU per 2000 calories, which is still not nearly enough, and you would get nothing else if you ate that much, so it would be a waste of calories. If you ate 2000 calories of quinoa, oats, rice, potatoes, sweet potatoes, fruits, beans, and lentils, as well as some greens and other vegetables, you would get all those B vitamins, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Vitamin K, calcium, magnesium, sodium, potassium, zinc, copper, selenium, chromium, manganese, iron, and other minerals that all those animal fats lack. The so called healthy oils like olive oil, coconut oil, and avocado oil also are empty calories just like those animal fats. The only have Vitamin E and nothing else.

      I don't know what was right or wrong about his graph, but it is actual, verified fact that Ancel Keys lied in his famous study, and completely left out countries in it that didn't go with his hypothesis. It was really a 22 country study. So that is dishonest science, that can't be trusted. Also, Ancel Keys lived to a ripe old age of 100 eating what he called a mediterranean-style diet that include animal products and, in his words, lots of unsaturated fats. So he stayed healthy and lived a long life doing the opposite of what he imposed on all of us. And that, as well, is verified fact.

    I just want to thank you from the bottom of my heart! I don’t consider myself a vegan, I just don’t eat a lot of meat and don’t love it that much🤷🏼‍♀️ I am deficient in iron dew to heavy periods and “how knows what else”😂 Anyways, I’ve been looking for different ways to improve my diet without adding animal products in it (constantly arguing with my doctors) And since I’ve discovered your channel, I feel much more confident about my knowledge. Especially about vitamins. It helps a lot to be more aware of what I eat and what tests I need to run on a regular basis to understand my body needs better. I don’t know why, but in my country it is not a common thing to check your blood for vitamin deficiency 🤷🏼‍♀️ So thank you for being responsible and genuine 🌹

I am quite proud that I catch a lot of these manipulations myself (like the 'we can't compare ourselves to rabbits, but we can to sheep' part,), but I don't have the time to look at the studies myself, so thank you for this.

    • @mpotynski
      @mpotynski 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      For posterity, it’s not the same comparison. He was talking about studies done on rabbits with sat. fats. You can’t compare how a rabbit reacts to high sat fat with a human. Rabbits are notoriously fragile digesters. They need to stick to their grass. Humans are omnivores. they can tolerate high fat. In the sheep example you can compare humans because we’re talking about oxalates in leafy greens, which are harmful in large amounts to both livestock and humans, and even rabbits.
      So really we’re delineating between fats and oxalates, not rabbits vs humans and sheep vs humans. If he started talking about studies on sheep and fats, you’d be right, but it’s a different topic at that point, oxalates, which herbivores and omnivores have a comparable intolerance for.

    I believe everyone needs to find the food that works for them. For me, the lion diet (ruminant nose to tail, salt and water) was how I healed myself. Organ meats have more vitamins, nutrients and minerals than vegetables. I lost 75 pounds over a year and gained 50% strength in one month. I had leaky gut from vegetables and grains and I have a genetic mutation of the MTHFR gene, as does about 40% of the population. This means that I can not digest folic acid which is what the food industry sprays on grain to "fortify" or "enrich" grains. They are literally spraying poison for 40% of the population on grain products. I am reintroducing vegetables but mostly cruciferous and allium ones. I am raising my own vegetables and meat now. It is interesting to see how my body reacts to the foods I use to eat all the time, especially the processed ones. It is scary!
