  • In 2003 Kevin Millar should have been a Chunichi Dragon, until the Boston Red Sox decided that Gentlemen's Agreements are for suckers.

Apologies for the swallowed words and audio mess this video was, I really just wanted to put something out after delaying my bigger video. Also I need to find the audio setting that keeps cutting off the first sylabble of a new audio clip and turn that thing off.
    Ugh.
    Thanks for understanding.

I didn't really notice low production value. You did good. I learned some things, thanks. I am glad I clicked on this. Millar was a likeable player.

As a fellow Red Sox fan, I had no clue this was something that happened.

Two players in the vid who were just called by their first name while in Japan. Alex and Benny.

Fascinating, was not aware of this. The NPB seems to always come out behind when there is a conflict like this with MLB.
Maybe unrelated, but it's things like this that make me wish that more players would do what Carter Stewart did to level the playing field a bit between the two leagues.

From the perspective of Chunichi Dragons fans, it was a good thing that Kevin Miller didn't come because Alex Ochoa, who came in his place, helped them win the league title many times with his strong shoulders and strong hitting. th-cam.com/video/gDGqgXk7_NQ/w-d-xo.htmlsi=kS13IbuUmvzySpdG

One thing that should be noted about Millar and why the MLBPA had a stronger case than what it appeared on the surface was the malpractice done by the Florida Marlins front office to explore all options in MLB to move Millar while keeping him in the dark about it. According to writers from the time, the Red Sox, Athletics, and two other teams were actively looking to trade for Millar but the Marlins didn't answer to purposely keep his value down if I recall correctly. When Millar was lied to by the front office that that there was no offers for him, that's what caused the MLBPA to kick up a massive fuss especially when the Dragons threatened the Red Sox to pay a posting fee to get Millar back after they claimed him off waivers.

It was Alex Ochoa who came instead, so this was good.

Red Sox broke precedent, but not the rules. Precedents are are destined to be broken. Most memorably, by winners.
"Just don't let the Red Sox win tonight!" He got it going in October 2004. More than anyone, Millar ingnited the greatest comeback in America sports history.

You think the NPB can catch up to the MLB one day?

Personally, I don't think so. The money just isn't there for them to compete finacially with MLB.
Sould Japan ever reach the economic heights of then 80s again then maybe, but I doubt it.
You also have to remember that NPB is a national league, with a primary focus on Japanese talent. MLB, being the world's premier baseball league, has players from all over the world. NPB requires teams to be mostly Japanese.

In my lifetime as a Brewers fan I’ve seen my team appear just as many World Series as I have win them. Nothing related to the topic just the beginning and fuck me would i just want one lol.
Interesting video though as I hadn’t known this not paying much attention to the Red Sox obviously.
