James was Marys punching bag through it all. He loved her but of course he began to hate her. We see it in a lot of relationships in the real world. People can envy their partners when they're doing better than you. and in this case. Mary was envious of james because she was going to die no matter what she did and james was going to live. She just spiraled out of control.

The little I know is that james hated her because of being a nuisance to having to take care of her and all and couldn't keep up with his life etc etc, where would be the part she had jelousy? @martinnieva8484 james hated her because of the way mary treared him as she got closer to death. Their once shared love became mary lashing out at james because she knew she was going to die. James became resentful and also knew mary was going to die no matter what. (Spoiler alert) So he decided to put them both out of their misery by suffocating her with a pillow. James was so confused and heartbroken by what happeend that he completely blocked the memory of it from his mind. Could have been too drunken to have remembered. Its all speculation because the game doesn't tell us that part. All we know is he goes to Silent Hill looking for his already dead wife believing she may possibly be alive without remembering how she died.
Liked this more more than the RE remakes. Truly messed with my psyche, like good psych horror should. Kudos to the developers for perfecting a classic.
I love how Maria slowly unveils her true identity as she gets mad, her eyes turning from Mary's brown ones to her blue. So eerie. Though ngl, Mary with blue eyes is also pretty D:

I’ll always love the OG leave ending and the dialogue before the final boss, but I just adore something about this version, particularly James. It shows that even after James learns the truth and understands what Maria really is, he can’t help but try and empathize a little. Even though she’s not real he got the sense that she tried to care about him in her own messed up way, it was just time to let go and move on.
My thoughts, too. James in the original came off as very cold when he said he didn’t need Maria anymore. And while I get that she was created to “test” him, it felt very dismissive of her personhood. Especially with the “Born from a Wish” story. Here, James is more regretful. He knows that staying with Maria would just hurt them both even more, but it also seems like he wishes there was another way for her to go on living.
Me watching this as someone who played the OG came out: _"Wow! This remake looks fantastic!"_ Me At 7:23: _"Oh... my... god..."_ Wasn't expecting that... and it is horrifying and awesome. I know people are finding tiny details to pick apart and nitpick, but it genuinely looks like Bloober knocked this remake out of the friggin' park! Can't wait to play it when I eventually get a PS5!
I'm surprised if it is, I always thought SH2 was more of a standalone game cause of the only connecting details of the 1st and 3rd game are the town, gods/power of the town, and how people that aren't troubled by sorrow are seen as 'monsters'. Though if we're considering 'Memory of Alessa' I can see this being the case since she's what's left after the end of SH1. I wish we got SH1 remade
Maria's "I can't" suggests that even if she wanted to, she couldn't let James go. She was born from his desires, from his desire to return to a healthy married life, to see a healthy Mary again. If she can't fulfill her role, then she has nothing left. This character made an impression on me in 2001, I think I'm good to have her in mind for the rest of my life with the remake. :(
i dont think the game(original one anyway) every had a true ending, i kinda remember getting told what ending you think fits best would depend on your headspace and im inclined to believe it because ive heard people talking about liking the water ending and then changing their minds later on in life to prefer leave
Leave isn't the "canon" ending, but it's often seen as the "good" ending because it's the only one where James leaves and tries to move on from what happened. In "In Water" he doesn't leave, and gives in to his guilt, and in "Maria" he leaves but continues the cycle because he can't give up his guilt. Leave, however, does Mary's last wish and goes on to live not only for himself, but for Laura.

Honestly, this boss fight was one of the few things I knew was gonna be better regardless, since it's kinda shitty in the original. I think the way it's introduced is a little more freaky in the old one, but the second phase caught me off guard and honestly, it's an awesome addition and doesn't feel too actiony. Good job, BT.
The way the original scene before the final boss is directed is so much more effective. The rising tension both in the voice acting and the music. The monster form slowly creeping in until suddenly erupting into full transformation. The new one simply doesn't have the same tension.
The original voice actress made me legitimately cry and feel terrible. This is good, but to me that was the best part of the game. Just my opinion. This ending was still wonderful. 😢
This made me cry. I got the Maria ending which is annoying, I dislike Maria. But I don't wanna go through playing the whole game again, or maybe I would with lots of mods and cheats just to get all the endings lmao. But yeah. This ending is bittersweet.
