IWC for the bling, Stowa for the historicity, Damasko and Sinn for a more modern overengineered take on the concept. Glashutte Original if you want a next level flieger with a top tier in house movement. Steinhart is also really interesting in this space. They make fliegers with pocket watch movements that have a complication to bring the sub second hand to a central position - just like the original WW2 fliegers.
Loved this, thank you so much! I hope you enjoyed making the video as much as I did watching it. (Echo the thought of another commentator, below, that it's great to hear from a watch lover versus a watch reviewer/flipper.) Regards from owner of a Stowa Flieger and two classic Damasko ones. (P.S. wouldn't trade any of those for an IWC, as these have their own charm, for me.)
the Sinn 556i B sure looks good. I have had 556 A, 556i and 656 before. Sinn is one of my favorite watch brands and 556 i B is on my wishlist for the future
nice video. would the fine link bracelets on both the 556ib and terrasport II fit each other. im planning to buy a panova and i have a 556i and im wondering if the fine link bracelet on my sinn would fit the panova. i think the panova has the same case as the terrasport. thanks.
Love my Sinn 556i. Want to see the 556i B in the metal to compare. Got my eye on the Stowa 40 no date/no logo/handwind. Never understood the desire for the IWC - too expensive and has the date at the 3.
You might want to look into leather balm (Coach or Johnston & Murphy) for that Stowa strap. It darkens leather a little bit, and softens it also. You might end up with a bit more brown, which could help. Might be worth a try if you're not wearing it as much because of the lighter color.
Excellent overview. Pretty hard to pick a favorite. I am not sure about IWC. In the flieger realm, my top drawer pick is the out of production Glashütte Original Senator Navigator. But in terms of value proposition, it is pretty hard to beat any of your six watches. Each has their own virtues.
Dont think I could possible choose but I have got a few of them on my list of watches to purchase. Feel like I should mention there's also a Sinn 566 A RS which is exactly the same as the 556 A but has a red seconds hands.
I purchased the damasko after looking at your damasko vs sinn video. With that being said I don't know if I would like the sinn Arabic or the stowa featuredin this video. All great choices.
Wwoooww-tthhaaannkk Yyoouu Mark-been trying for a while to wrap the brain around a fleiger, tactical or explorer type watch purchase...even in the segment of this more "proletariat" (which is and has been for quite a while now my favorite sector) part of the watch world in some ways, there are more variables to assimilate. Thanks again.
The Laco and Stowa are stunning. I have the Laco B-dial flieger and may eventually get that same Stowa. Love that blue on the Sinn as well except the stubby hands always put me off. P.S. Oris movements aren’t just red paint on a rotor they are regulated-the Aquis I own runs a second or two off a day. AMAZING watches.
Fantastic video as I am shopping and trying to decide what flieger to get. To be able to not only see them, but write down the pertinent specs was great.I have a 6 1/2" wrist, so the lug to lug is something I really have to be careful about. I think the Damasko would fit me, or maybe just barely too big?, Not sure. I love the look of the crosshair, I find that the best feature of any of these dials. As it is a bit hard to tell in the video ( even though you shot it so well) I am wondering which has the inkier black? The Stowa to be seems like the least black. Thoughts on that as you wear them in real life situations?
I have the Stowa 40 and it fits just about flush with my 6in wrist. The dial is matte black, not a gloss or a lacquered black. Its really a watch you have to see, feel, and wear in person to decide. Stowa and the Sinn 556a will have the most subdued look out of this bunch.
Very nice review of some very nice watches. I think a Sinn 556 may be in my future! I may not want to wait too long; they seem to keep going up in price. I also appreciate how you had all the second hands synchronized...
Own a Stowa Flieger "Klassik" w/date and a Sinn 104. Both are great watches and now I'm eyeing a Damasko which are incredible watches for the money. Would I trade my Stowa and Sinn for an IWC ... absolutely not! I do like IWC but I feel they're overrated and overpriced. IMO.
I have owned Sinn, Damasko, Stowa and also IWC. I also would rather have 2 or 3 of the german watches vs 1 IWC. I sold it and bought a Sinn 556a and Nomos Orion. I ended up selling all my Sinns , a Nomos and a Damasko to fund an Explorer I. I have had a 656, 556i, 556A and 2 856 UTC's , have owned several Damasko's but slightly prefer the Sinns. Stowa fliegers i like them but overall prefer watches on bracelet
@@derfdswed Pretty much looking at the watches you have owned and I also have an explorer 1. Looking for a watch on a strap that I can wear to work (office casual) that is understated and can take a few dings here and there. Also want it in the mix as a weekend beater in the winter (have a bunch of divers for summer) to pair with a Hamilton Khaki that currently fills that role. Looking at the 104 matte case, 556A, 856 UTC and Damasko DA/DS models. The crown sticking out on the Damasko worries me a bit. Any Issues? Which would you buy again? FYI I have a 6.75 inch wrist. Thanks for the help, I know this is an old comment.
@@specialkfouryou 556A is the most versatile . I have never owned Sinn 104 so can't comment on that. I slightly prefer Sinn because I usually wear watches on bracelet and sometimes switch to NATO strap. Mainly because I rotate watches and don't want to reset date and day every time with a Damasko :-)
@@derfdswed Thanks for the reply, I deff will put the 556A at the top of the list then. Yeah, something special in just setting the time and not dealing with setting the date etc. Also love clean the dial is without the date. Sometimes less is deff more. Thanks again for the advice, cheers!
So I just purchased the Sinn 556 i b. I am searching for a water resistant strap. I actually saw the review for the black Hirsch Pure. Do you think that would work with my watch and might you have any other suggestions? By the way you do great reviews bro 👍
This is exactly why I love this channel... a non-flipper who is talking about watches that he actually owns and wears. Bravo!
Anyone notice??….. they’re all set perfectly to the second!!! Nice attention to detail, sir!
The Sinn blue dial!!! Wow!
The Damasko looks amazing on that strap. I'm going to get one anyway, but that strap makes it even more wantable!
Would you happen to know of any curved endlink bracelets that fit the Stowa Flieger Classic 40?
Nice collection. Sinn 556a is a beauty and would be my pick of the bunch.
Amazing review. Many thanks. Domasco and Stowa are my favorites.
This video was much needed for a long time for the WIS community. Thank you so much!
Very entertaining!

That Damasko is one sexy watch. 🤩

Very interesting to see you criticising the Sinns for their quality of finishing. What is it about them, that you think is lacking?

Love this comparison! What is the strap on your DS30? Thanks!
Discontinued Damasko strap but a similar German made option can be had from Rios as well

Nice video, but how is the date window "parallel" on the 556A?
The text orientation is parallel...
You seem to really like the DS30. Would love to see you get your hands on a DA38 or 37

Get the Damasko. Lug to lug is 47mm.
BTW, that textured rubber has been discontinued for a long time, according to Damasko. You got yourself one desires strap by many!

@Big Bub Wise, those Invicta fanboys like humongous watches. They would probably complain that 55mm isn't big enough. LOL!

What’s your thought on the hirsch strap on the blue Sinn 556? That’s the exact combo I am looking at!
That Sinn 556 sure stands out in a group doesn’t it
Nope. I prefer the Damasko
Why is it that the Sinn looks like someone gave an autistic child a crayon and asked them to draw a watch?
Sinn 🤤
Should have compared the Sinn I.....not the Sinn A.......and you know it.
