What helped me break the buy/declutter cycle is getting a solid sense of my own personal style. I know trends and fashion change, but my basic style hasnt changed in many many years. The most gratifying thing for me is when I wear things out. I have clothes that I am almost ready to get rid of because I wear them so much. Some things I keep because I can still wear them around the house and just throw a nice shirt or sweater over it if I need to, like to cover threadbare places or worn elbows.
Yes exactly. It’s better to spend a little more time finding pieces second hand on apps like depop and vinted than supporting slave labour and poor working conditions just to get a few new pieces that won’t last that long anyway
Great video- and also great to take some time with what you have before adding anything into your wardrobe so you can really get a feel for where the gaps are 😊
I use the method turning my hangers around. It works. You need to keep in mind the seasonality aspect and of course Covid and how that has kept us at home more. Now that we are back out, some things will be worn again. For the maybes, I make myself wear those items ASAP and assess how they make me feel. If I don't feel great in the item, no matter how cute it may be on a hanger, it goes. Also, it helps to also organize by category, then by color. All short sleeve shirts together, long sleeve, dresses, pants ect., ect., ect. I have also changed to using the Marie Kondo method to fold items in drawers. The big difference is that you can see everything and have full view to choose. It works really well. Good job on the clean out.
I haven't seen many of your videos since you returned from New Zealand. I hope all is well considering the world is in the midst of C-19. Anyway, it's good to see you. You have a lovely wardrobe that looks cozy and the colors are calming natural and earth tones, love it! I wish you the best with your decluttering. One of the ways that I'm approaching my own declutter in order to keep me focused is to separate the clothes into what I'm wearing daily, weekly and monthly. What I'm going to need when it's cold outside is a category to keep. I'm never getting rid of my cold weather gear because I never know when I'll need it. Also because it's tried and true and I feel most comfortable in it. Plus, I'm keeping my professional clothes like blazers, blouses and slacks for when I might need them. Everything else that I don't wear daily, weekly or monthly is potentially on the chopping block and will have to go.
I found that owning less makes getting dressed & caring for clothing much easier! I now have only about 1/4 of the clothing I used to have. I only shop when I need to replace a worn item and then I buy second hand. I am very intentional about what comes into my wardrobe now. I also only keep clothing that fits, is comfortable and is flattering. No "just in case" or "someday" clothing. It is a game changer!!
I love a good clear out. It's so satisfying! And, it sure makes more sense to donate to others who can make use of something rather than have it sit in a drawer or hang in a closet. Good for you!
I ended up doing this last Summer. I am 46 and had early menopause about 3 years ago and since then my body shape has changed a lot. I am the same weight but a lot of shirts that I had were button down didn’t fit right anymore. It was so nice to move those pieces along. I had too many clothes anyway and my style changed as it tends to do. I would love to see your fashion hauls! I usually thrift most of my clothing but have not been going thrifting much since last March. Echo is so sweet. I have a Ragdoll as well and he is a monster.
Maybe you should look at the colours you like. When you are cool toned white is for you, when you are warm toned more cream/warm white as example. You dont have to only wear these colours but it helps when you are searching for a solid Style :)
Stopped everything I was doing to watch this video 💚 Love your colour pallet. You are so right in saying that if you don’t feel good in it that it’s time for it to go
Loved the video, so motivational! And I would love second hand hauls, maybe even something like 'thrift my pinterest' if you have one - that could be helpful with discovering your current style, too 🥰
Hauls would be great! I love all your vlogs- cooking / healthy living / cottage / echo/ business, decluttering and routines / journalling and all that jazz. Sending lots of love 💕 🌈 xx
Ok, you did an amazing job of decluttering your wardrobe. You got rid of over half of it! I have seen almost all of your clothing decluttering videos. They are my favorite and I love decluttering my wardrobe as well. But one question I have is, how did you end up with all these new clothes?! 😆 They all look new and different from your other decluttering videos. I haven’t caught up with some of your recent videos but perhaps you’ve done some thrift hauls. I’ve done my fair share of thrift hauls and I usually end up with too many clothes that in six months I have so MUCH decluttering to do again. It’s like a never ending cycle haha. Now we live full time in an RV so I’ve had to get better at it. Recently when I went to the thrift store I only purchased one item. I was pretty proud of myself. And I’ve had to be really strict with the one in and one out rule. Otherwise it’s just impossible to fit everything into my RV because of the limited space. I’m curious, could you please do a video on your approach to bringing new things into your home? Do you have a process where you only buy something that you truly love? Or do you only buy something if you’ve thought about it for a week? Or do you have a one in one out rule? I’m just curious about your minimalist journey and what routines you incorporate to balance your minimalist lifestyle. For me personally, I’m great at decluttering, but I’ve had to really work on myself about bringing new things into my home. Honestly, I wish I could just “rent” and item. Sometimes I find something at the store that I think I love and then once I’ve had it for a week I realize it’s not truly me and I don’t love it and wish I could return it. And then other times I really do find that gem that I want to hold on to forever.
Would love more fashion videos, I feel like I am going thru the same struggle with my wardrobe and need mine updated. I really like your style so would love to see that in the future from you. Been loving your videos for quite some time now, sending good vibes your way 🌞

They are good company for each other especially when they go to the cattery .I love what you spend your time doing and you've helped me declutter .like you I give it all to charity .I'm not interested in selling my things I'd rather do good and help those in need .if we all donated our unwanted but previously loved things then I'm sure more people would go to the charity shops and we all would benefit .there's too much waste .hope you and Dom are well .stay healthy and happy I love all the tips you give .take care .xxx
Thanks Kay! My body has totally changed too. I'm struggling to find clothes for myself as well. I wear a L/XL but I'm 4'10". It's very difficulty. With my income I can afford ethical clothing unfortunately. What I can afford is Walmart clothes. Not the best at all for ethical. But, I make sure to wear them till their worn, pass them to friends if they shrink, or make rags out of them. One way that is super fun to use the fabric so it doesn't end up in land fields I make dolls clothes, aprons, and pot holders for my daughter. She loves them!
Why not try second hand online at least until the charity shops are open. I’m finding Vinted amazing for some bargains! Means you can get Zara and Mango etc (and sometimes brand new) for a fraction of the price and without contributing to the fast fashion waste xx
I’ve been looking into that too ☺️ are there any you’d recommend? I’ve seen the everything £5 one and thredup but if you can share any others I’d love to hear! xx
@@Livingthelifeyoulove yeah Vinted is my favourite, I think depop is overpriced and eBay potentially too much competition as things have a wider audience! Facebook market place has been okay but for mainly kids stuff.
I loved this video and decluttered some baby clothes while watching :-). Thank you for the inspiration!. I would love to see more decluttering videos and how you add more items into your wardrobe etc...hauls and such. I agree that ethical is best but so so expensive! Xx
Great declutter. Will be fun to see what pieces you will add to your wardrobe now. With how many clothes already exist and are floating around the world, I would also vote for buying second hand as much as you can. It takes some browsing, but I have managed to build most of my wardrobe with second hand pieces that are high quality and nice brands, and they were cheap compared to the retail price or comparable to prices in Zara, H&M etc. Most of them I found on online platforms like Willhaben (Austrian alternative of Craigslist I guess, where everyone can sell their stuff) and it worked really well for me.
Wow! Good for you! That was two big piles of clothes to get rid of! This came at the right time, as we are moving in a few weeks and I need to sort and get rid of clothing I do not wear anymore. Plus, Spring is coming up here and so Winter wear will be put into storage and switched out for the Spring clothes. I find it is so easy to get carried away watching other people's haul videos, and you see something that looks terrific on somebody. Then you binge buy only to find out it looks horrible on you personally. About black for funerals, not too many people wear black anymore. Usually here we have "celebration of life" services, and people can wear whatever they want which I think is so much better! Echo never has to worry about his wardrobe.... one fur outfit is sufficient for him!!!
Great video, it is so nice finding your style and feeling good in your clothes. Enjoy haul videos but when there is a mix of purchases from stores, depop, charity etc. I try avoid buying from fast fashion stores but sometimes I have to due to availability so I appreciate that too.
Lovely, Kay! I know the feeling of hanging on to certain pieces and then one day, it's time.. to let go :) Have a great weekend! I'm going to declutter too today :) !!
Well done! Great, ruthless declutter. Really enjoyed watching your video! Also great that Echo ‘helps’ out so much, by lying there and looking adorable.😂

I’m about to do this with my wardrobe, too - my body’s changed a lot since having a little one and I need to get some new clothes that actually fit it right, and get rid of all the old! 🙂 I’ve gotten rid of a few things, but I need to do a full clear out. Great job with your decluttering!

This video made me want to declutter my wardrobe! I definitely think some haul videos would be really interesting. I love how chatty your videos are (I also always accidentally knock my tea over) 😂
Always enjoy your videos 🌷When ever we get any new clothes then we get rid of the equal amount from our old. I try and do the same, in with new, out with old throughout the house.
Here was me thinking Echo would be the one to knock the coffee cup over at least it matches 😊😊 Really nice declutter, I have been struggling with decluttering clothes lately, as last year I was put on Heart Medication due to my heart not working properly that caused me to gain weight and go up size because of the fatigue, I'm on new medication now and feel a lot better 😊😊 But I still struggle at the moment with letting things go as I worry ohh what if I fit back in to that or need it post pandemic, but I have found I am wearing a mix of my nicer things and basic pieces when I do go out so maybe thats a sign 😊😊 Would love to see hauls from you or little outfits of the days in your vlogs 😊 😊
Hahaha it’s always me, little miss clumsy 🙈😂 sorry to hear about your health condition, I’m so happy you’re starting to feel a lot better now 🤍 I love the idea of sharing little outfits of the day in my vlogs 💗
Hi Kay, hope you’re well Been watching the channel since you were in New Zealand and I still enjoy your content. I understand that it’s a difficult time in the UK (and most of the world) for ethical shopping. Ethical clothing is expensive for most people and with the charity shops being closed it is quite disheartening when you need new clothes. I’m a plus size person and I buy 90% of my clothes second hand. On the plus side, as we are still not going anywhere due to the pandemic, there’s no rush to buy a whole bunch of new clothes - with nowhere to go. I was drawn to your channel as I had very similar views to you and although perhaps this is no longer the case, I completely respect your decisions and your different circumstance to mine. I would vote no to hauls, hauls on TH-cam are becoming a thing of the past due to the obvious issues concerning fast fashion not being ethical. Having said that I wouldn’t judge you if you felt that buying fast fashion is right for you economically. I would just say that making a ‘haul’ video would promote and encourage fast fashion which I would discourage you from doing.
I appreciate I have changed a lot in the last few years but so has my life, it's turned upside down! 😂 I totally see where you're coming from. Personally I try not to live my life in an echo chamber and watch a wide variety of channels, some of whom I don't agree with their morals or principals but I like the people and their personality or a certain aspect that they share such as family, home, decor etc. I think it's important to challenge your own world views sometimes and also reaffirm your own by watching peoples who's views differ! 😊
I'm not a fan of fast fashion unless its something you know you will keep. I know most people buy fast fashion with the idea that its "disposable" but I dislike it for that reason. Its weird because I love fashion in general, but as a cultural marker, not as something I need to follow and adopt if that makes any sense at all. Anyway, not a fan of haul videos personally.
For clothes you should look into the preloved community on insta. Hello.sunshine.preloved, my_ever_revolving_wardrobe, millerandmoore and the.preloved.edit are all pages that I love!! 🤍🤍🤍
No fast fashion hauls...sustainable fashion only, or second hand. I started watching you because you were more sustainable. I am interested in your wardrobe journey but I sure hope you do add items very intentionally and slowly ( not cheap fast fashion hauls) Otherwise you'll just be doing another declutter in 6- 12 months. I have a very small budget and I buy only secondhand or for good basics or items I know I will wear a lot ( just 'replacing' an old fast fashion item I know I like and wear) I save up and buy from more sustainable brands. They are not all expensive. For example PACT is very reasonable. And though I know Everlane is not the most sustainable brand, they do have some organic cotton items and in general I do think they are at least a better choice than H&M etc. For the quality of items the price is very reasonable. You could also try to get a sponsorship from them.
No hauls please. They encourage unsustainable practices and mindless spending. Brands like Zara and H&M exploit their workers and the clothes are still not great quality. Depop and thrift stores all the way for better quality but affordable pieces! ❤️
I would be thrilled to watch second hand or ethical hauls but would not be interested in fast fashion hauls. I don't support companies like that esp when I can buy the items second hand.
What helped me break the buy/declutter cycle is getting a solid sense of my own personal style. I know trends and fashion change, but my basic style hasnt changed in many many years. I’d love to see thrifted clothes and ethical clothes! A fast fashion clothing haul doesn’t hold much appeal for me, personally. :)
I completely agree
@@eloyoneill3875 Yes, fast fashion would seem out of kilter with this channel.

That ragdoll pj😍😍😍😍 I NEED.. Where did you get it from!?
M&S in the UK
How about capsule wardrobe? Did you ever thought of creating one? I found this out very interesting and I’m currently try to create one 😊

Great vlog, what about charity shops ? Xx
OMGGGGGG IM SO EARLY IM A BIG FAN
Yay! Thanks for being here ☺️🙌🏼
I'm not a fan of fast fashion unless its something you know you will keep. I know most people buy fast fashion with the idea that its "disposable" but I dislike it for that reason. Its weird because I love fashion in general, but as a cultural marker, not as something I need to follow and adopt if that makes any sense at all. Anyway, not a fan of haul videos personally.
Not everyone one what’s to wear second hand clothes. We should all buy what we want and stop forcing or offering our preferences on other’s.
Not everyone wants to but some people can’t afford to do anything else so at least there are options out there for everyone.
Hi Kay it looks like you decided to get rid of some of those clothes you been holding on to forever good job👍👍❤
I always hold on incase I want later and lament giving away perfect expensive items. Help!
Seasonal hauls! Please! ❤️
For clothes you should look into the preloved community on insta. Hello.sunshine.preloved, my_ever_revolving_wardrobe, millerandmoore and the.preloved.edit are all pages that I love!! 🤍🤍🤍
Me gustaría poder ver la traducción en español me encantan tus videos pero no manejo el inglés
Wholelotta de cluttering 🤦♀️
