Beta alanine 4-6g daily Used to take BCAAS which are actually not bad for recovery Creatine when I was training more like a 400/800 runner Stimostam which is a buffer Caffeine in workout days
I heard Deena Kastor asked the same question last spring. Her answer was "None" -- she just made sure that she ate a really well balanced diet. When she was told she needed more vitamin D she said she added kale (kale chips), eggs and pickled herring and got her levels back to normal. I seem to recall that some athletes have tested positive for banned substances after taking supplements.
the reality is many supplements are tainted with things they aren't supposed to have in them. This is a result of crappy company and crappy manufacturers not taking pride in their products. Deena Kastor is a legend and I agree that a good diet can cover 99%+ of your dietary needs.
Yup, we really don't need much. Get blood work and find out what you are lacking. I found out that my iron levels would drop during hard work out weeks. So all I take is a iron supplement and a multivitamin. A week after constantly taking iron my workouts were so much better. I felt I had more energy and didn't feel drained after the workout.
Hey Nick! I’m just starting my Cross-Country training and I want to know you’re opinion on things I should change this summer from last summer. And how can I start making my distance days faster while still allowing my body to recover properly?
periodize your week. Three session days, three recovery day. Recovery days should be EASY. No faster than conversational pace. Session days should be HARD, push yourself. Add 2-3x lifting in there, some people prefer to lift on their easy days, some one their hard days (I liked to lift on my easy days).
Hey Nick what do you think about supplementing creatine? After a loading phase of about a week I saw a big improvement in the shorter sprints, especially the 200m.
I just take a daily multi vitamin, but I noticed some have potassium and some don't. I'm going to switch to one that has it after this round. Nick any thoughts on potassium? Love the channel, and all the great incite. Keep up the great work!!
Sound great Nick are they safe? You know that there are supplements out there with small dosages of ban ingredients. Even the smallest dosages of those banned ingredients can cause a positive test.
Hlo sir...I am subham and I am beginner long marathon Atlantic boy and I am 22 year old and sir what kind of supplements in needed sir..plz suggested me .....🖐👍👍
"Healthy well balanced meals" Continues to do a Big Mac Mile 😂😂 I know these videos are old and that may have not been in order of video release but I thought it was funny! Always solid advice Nick!
Its bioavailability when taken orally is only 5-18%. So in large doses, it can be slightly helpful, but you aren’t getting the full effect you may think you’re getting.
This is certainly not a comprehensive list of great supplements out there. What is a must have supplement for your training?

tbh I've never taken creatine. Mostly when it comes up in conversation it is from people trying to bulk up
@@nicksymmonds it doesn't, it's mostly for short burst energy production with ATP.
