Unown forms are *based* on this value, thus only Unown that can have these values can be shiny. And the Pokémon with the right DVs are Unown I and Unown V. Completely coincidental.
      Another odd thing, some Pokémon with specific gender ratio can't be shiny in gen 2, I think I heard...? Something about shinyness based on personality value that overlaps with gender or something, I don't fully remember.

  • @garbotoxins840

    If you want to breed shiny pokemon in generation 2, there's an easy trick to obtain a shiny ditto. You trade the red gyarados to red/blue, encounter a ditto, let it transform and then catch it. The caught ditto retains the stats of the pokemon it transformed into, so noe if you trsde the ditto to gen 2, you have a shiny ditto for easy breeding.

    • @Livvvid
      @Livvvid 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I think ditto has to use transform then has to use mimic to copy this stats or something. THEN you can catch the ditto and its stats will show as shiny in gen 2.
      Once in gen 2 that ditto can breed with most everything in gen 1 and 2 for shiny odds of 1/64 other than legendaries and genderlese pokemon.

    • @DVNGXR
      @DVNGXR 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      @@Livvvidyes you need to teach shiny gyrados mimic and I think remove all it's other moves. Then you battle a ditto, use mimic to copy the move transform onto the shiny. Ditto will transform into gyrados and then use transform again, and then you catch it. For some reason using transform more than once permanently changes its stats to that of the pokemon it transforms into, and since stats determined shinyness the ditto would become shiny. I remember doing this and breeding for a shiny charizard. I was slightly disappointed when i realized it was purple.

    The gen 2 shiny breeding thing is kind of unique since it does put the whole fact that shinies are a recesive gene, so a shiny breeding with a pokemon that could have the heterozygous genes for shiny color could make it easier to have offspring become shiny... It is a very interesting method, and if it was in modern pokemon, I wonder if it would stack with stuff like shiny charm and Mesudo method, but you'll need a shiny for that

    • @ChaosInsurgency-AlphaClass-01

    • @DVNGXR
      @DVNGXR 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @darkcrydotmrihavetoomanyst1440 no it only worked this way in gen 2 because a pokemon being shiny was based on its stats, and with breeding the pokemon hatched are likely to have similar stats as their parents. Breeding still works much the same way but a pokemon being shiny is no longer based on its stats after gen 2.

    • @IronPikachu724
      @IronPikachu724 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Ok, an explanation 8 months later on the genetic reasoning being weird is that it isn't a 1/4 chance, but one in sixty-four chance, so it would be a whole different genepool setup than we casually know, instead of 2 factors, it would likely be 16 of them (instead of something like XX, Xx, or xx, it could end up with something like XxxXxXxxXXXxxxxX, very long indeed). And if the genetical part is what makes a shiny Pokémon, then having 2 shinies means you can basically have infinite shinies at your will power, since they both only have the resesive genes, so no Heterozygous combinations could be possible.

      You know, most players probably lose about that much if not more of their shinies because there are no visual or audio for when shiny pops up
      And if you walk just outside of its range its gone forever so most players probably failed shinies without even knowing
      This is however even worse in gen 8 where the pokemon dont even show up shiny in the overworld but are already shiny checked. Meaning statistically speaking, most players would have missed a shiny that they just never encountered in a random route or wild area

      @theccarbiter they were not shiny in gen 1, because shiny pokemon did not exist in gen 1. The mechanic was not added until gen 2.
      It's like saying that steel pokemon existed in gen 1 because if you transfer a magneton to gen 2, it becomes steel type.

    so fun fact the reason unown on gen 2 only had shinies in it's i and v forms was because both shiny status and unown letter are tied to IVs in gen 2, for this same reason you couldn't get a shiny female starter from the professor because there was a fixed set of IVs the starters could have and of the gender bit (which was stored along side the IV data) was female non of these IVs would line up with a Shiny IV

    There's also a really weird glitch to force shinies in gen 1/2. In gen 1, you can make ditto transform twice, and it actually makes the IVs the same across the battle. You can nab shiny gyrados in gen 2, send it back to gen 1 using the time machine/capsule, then encounter a wild ditto. If the ditto uses transform twice in the battle, then you catch it, it's IVs will be the same as the shiny gyrados, and since gen 2 shinies were determined by IVs, you basically have a guaranteed shiny ditto to use as shiny breeding fodder

  • @Mr.Hellboi
    @Mr.Hellboi ปีที่แล้ว +1

    the shiny chances are rounded by the professor to make more sense, its more like an estimate and wouldnt be logical if he gave a weird number like 4096, and the game had allot more of an ecosystem they tried to really tie the characters into the world and make it a little more alive, makes real life sense that he would say something like “around 1 in 4000” instead of exact amounts like he had something to do with it

    Okay, but Jacq basically could not have known the shiny rate perfectly, imagine being that close to a number that is that hard to measure. Like, there are probably not that many shiny Pokémon living in paldea, and a lot of the ones that are have hardly noticeable shinies, which means he (or someone else) managed to estimate the number and got within 100 of it.

    if you trade a shiny pokémon from gen 2 to gen 1 (including the red gyarados) you can perform a pretty simple glitch to catch a guaranteed shiny ditto when it's traded back to gen 2. that ditto can then be used for shiny breeding. if the OT of the ditto is different from the trainer name in the gen 2 game the breeding process will be faster

    As a soon to be graduate with an education degree:
    Saying shiny odds are about 1/4000 is basically the same as explaining that Pi is 3.14. Both are technically incorrect but they're easier to say and when you're looking at their use cases they work just as well.
    You wanna know the % difference between 1/4000 and 1/4092? 0.00056207% which i feel like i don't need to describe why the difference is basically negligible right?
    Also take into account that pokemon in the pokemon world are wild creatures under study, and the scientists can't tell the EXACT number for odds as theyd have to go on tests and data to come close to the answer. We know the exact odds because this is a game and we can read the code that says those are the odds, but in actual scientific testings there's basically no way to be that accurate for these creatures. So 1/4000 is just the best way to say it by rounding to an even number that can fairly quickly be made sense of, instead of a maybe slightly closer number that is more complex
