The most “un-rock star” ever. Humble, funny and self deprecating, yet on stage he was a living manifestation of some spiritual deity. It was real, I was there and felt it, and it wasn’t the drugs. He had a different aura. Not everyone saw or felt it, but those of us who did knew it instantly. Won’t see his kind again.
He is so crazy intelligent, not just scholastically, but spiritually and emotionally. I love his ideas about doing something in your daily life that you can notice progress with, and that can keep you in check with yourself. Magic.
Other than his music, what I've always loved about Jerry was that what you see is what you get. No BS about anything. Probably the most pure of any famous musician. T shirts and jeans. Oh yeah, and one guitar. That was Jerry.
I agree! Jerry’s personality, energy, love for music, passion, artistry, songwriting ability, and how he embodies the best values and traits of the counterculture and hippie movement are what made him genuinely original and masterful! As a 15+ year guitar player I can say no one can play the way Jerry did! I remember watching a video of his guitar tech and good friend Steve Parrish, recalling a memory of Jerry saying “There are prolly like a 1,000 guys that can be up here playing these song like I do every night.” Which Steve replies, “Well I haven’t seen or been shown one ☝️ of them”! We knew what us DeadHeads had with Jerry..one of a kind & truly the best! I’m very glad and thankful Bob, Bill, Phil and Mick are still kicking it!
Yeah for sure. Your t-shirt and jeans observation makes me think of my favorite Jerry story. A JGB member recalled a 30day tour in the 70s. Jerry left with 30 brand new pairs of jeans and t-shirts. Came off the tour with 29 brand new pairs lol.✌
Haha I know it. You really can't help but like this man, I love hearing him talk. I always say I can't think of another celebrity type who won so many over just being themselves. ✌
I’ve never been into religion or patriotism but the Grateful Dead fills both spots in my soul of “why am I here” oh to experience this right here. I got to meet his daughter Trixie and as far as I can tell she’s just like her dad, sweet as pie.
Very similar personality to John Lennon ... The vignette about Neal Cassady and the church ladies is priceless. Also, Garcia could hang with the Hell's Angels or nuclear physicists. An extremely rare talent and individual.
Wonderful how Jerry, through each interview, engages each interviewer as a kindred spirit in the conversation, wishing to relate in order to enhance an idea.
There is a radio interview with Duane Allman here on TH-cam where he says he loves Jerry and the dead and said there was nothing a man could do that jerry could not do. Duane is drunk and he goes on and on how great jerry is. It sounds like he has a little man-crush on jerry. Duane's star was rising and he don't give a ÷%%$%÷. Jerry no doubt was very important to the very young older Allman.
Jerry says what he feels. I miss his honesty. He did what he did and was not a lier. He knew what it ment to be free and what addiction was. I have so much respect for his free speach. Freedom. Pure and simple
Sometimes I wonder when exactly our world became such a darker place than it was 25-30 years ago..... and then the date 8/9/95 instantly pops up in my mind.
He's On! Captain Trips, I love Jer so much. He is the rock I build my Church on. I just wish I had been 10 years older. I was born in '59. If only I had been there from the beginning, in on the acid tests, and the best 60s bands. I was 10 when Woodstock happened. The Grateful Dead with Jerry is my favorite band.. I dug Jerry's Jam session with Commander Cody, Elvis Costello, Sammy Hagar andva bunch of others playing the blues. It was the Dead that woke me up into sentience. I head Viola Lee Blues, and the way that Jerrs, Bobby's Phils voices blended together so beautifully, suddenly it sparked awakening consciousness into my being. I first heard Viola Lee Blues in like 72.
Always looked, acted & spoke so great, but his look from 1969-1980 is so pure, like the words thoughts and active creative sense execution and visual aesthetic is that of a trailblazer of the mental emotional & spiritual arts
Jerry such a respectable human, always kind and gracious. Its getting to the point I wish there was video of him being pissed off lol. You know it had to happen!🤣✌
He didn't write it, but I am getting high listening to JGB do a smoking After Midnight. After midnight We're gonna let it all hang out After midnight We're gonna chug-a-lug and shout We're gonna cause talk and suspicion Give an exhibition Find out what it is all about Thanks Jer
Don't get all excited lol, he means the technique of rapping literally means rhythmic talking. He's not saying hip hop isn't music so put down your Confederate flag (I'm teasing but some people really think he meant hip hop isn't a form of music. Racists like to project lol)
Some and or most of the greatest minds, writers and all around creative minds to ever live used drugs. addiction is another thing but still just because someone uses drugs doesn’t mean they can’t have any wisdom or understanding or humility.
Drug addicts are the only people capable of actually thinking clearly (except people with a perfect life). Everyone else is too consumed with hatred and jealousy like you obviously were when you wrote this comment.
They were my first concert in 75...there were no hippies there, it as all bikers is what I remembered. I never became a deadhead, I never owned their albums, I did own Jerry's live album cause I liked his version of "Dear Prudence"... but I grew to dislike the hippy crap as I saw it as hypocrisy, which is what we are seeing today, all those hippies who were protesting *"The Man"* , all grew up to be democrats and liberals and *BECAME "The Man"* And listening to him now, what pompous ass...totally all about himself, total narcissist
That is sad when he was on MTV my god is he fucked up I mean that's just pathetic seriously that's pretty sad he's really a great guy I don't know why he would ever do that

Jerry Garcia is a PROPHET!! So to speak lol

Even crossword puzzles.

His eye movement at about 10:07 makes my day every time I see it! We miss you more than you could ever know, Jerry. Peace and love man
Love and miss you Jerry Garcia!
Then I would reccomend you his tune "Like a Road" 😊🍀🙏

I might be biased but Jerry seems to be the smartest and most articulate rocker ever

Something I've learned over the years is that "getting high" doesn't always have to mean taking drugs.
Thanks for sharing! :-)

When great humans/spirits walk the Earth, they usually aren’t fully appreciated in their lifetimes.
Loved how he laughed after being sent to commercials... LOL
Epic person. Very missed but is still very much around 👍
KING of Consciousness
Oh man that set has to be the inspiration behind “between two ferns”, lol.
He said "sure...because they're scary man" I mean truth is truth. Ty Jerry.
So true. :-) Such a honest statement by Jerry.

Yes, a good coffee to "treat everybody" haha. 500 hits and blub..
Jerry was so funny, intelligent, and like George Carlin, and Sam Kinison a total rebel who lived on the Fuck You philosophy, and it has to be fun.
Getting High in any sense ought be to elevate yourself from the norm and the status quo⚡️ (~);}
He died the year that I was born and he is probably the most influential person for me in my life in my wheelchair from heroin

My favorite line in this video is when Jerry said, 'rap is not music.' How true.

Jerry GarCIA.

Too much into Dope and it takes your life . Oh well …
Jerry died sober. Heroin had nothing to do with his death. That was from smoking, drinking, long term cocaine use and shitty diet.

A master of bullshit.
Nothing like a drug addict to explain life. They cant even handle day to day problems.
It's a little deeper than that, but hey, can't argue your point.
