Hi, thanks for the reviews, particularly with the Remarkable 2. Will you be doing any videos on the software, particularly how you can organise notes, quickly load new docs, move docs in to new folders etc. like you I write many hours a day in different meetings and organisation is the key motivator for me. Thanks
Hi Andrew, that is on the to-do list, unfortunately, I have had some health issues over the past couple of weeks, hopefully, be back to filming soon and it is high up on my agenda. 👍
Thank you for taking the time to comment, the reality when not filming is a bit less organised but making things digital really does help with that. For year I have used Paperchase notebooks, I have always found them to be really good quality, important when I used them in client facing meetings.
Your right the UI It's not quite there, it's unfortunate because I actually think the Kobo is marginally better in its own notes system than on the PDFs. But they definitely need to improve the writing UI. What's the most frustrating about it is it's such a capable e-reader if they can nail the writing experience it's a fantastic product.
Great question Jack. The nibs should have come with a specific tweezer-like tool. You grab the top of the nib and pull. You can do it with your nails if you have long enough nails but it can be a bit fiddly. The new one then just slots in. I push it in once with my fingertip. I hope that helps 👍.
Koko does pinch zoom?! 😱 I don’t care that it’s a little glitchy right now; the fact that they started their writing UI with pinch zoom is just fantastic. At least for this legally blind writer. 😅 (I can’t see well enough to read my own handwriting most of the time. Making the text bigger in any capacity is a help.)
I have to say for being able to make text bigger I have not found a better device yet. I have just released my full review th-cam.com/video/oTH6R8PXvZs/w-d-xo.html
I don't understand how a ball pen (with a free rolling ball, thus little to no friction by design) can "drag" more than a fountain pen which litterally scratches the paper because of the amount of friction...
I think your right in terms of the pen, it is interesting 🤔. In fairness I am probably comparing a pen,the fountain pen, that costs 100 times more than the ballpoint pen. But I think I always press to hard with ballpoint pens which is maybe why I don't like them. I have written with very nice ballpoint pens and like you say it's a very smooth experience. Thanks for pointing it out 😊
It doesn’t really need one IMHO, as it’s not glass like for example with an iPad but yes you can buy and it will work with screen protectors although I don’t have any recommendations as I haven’t used one personally. I hope that helps, sorry I can’t give you a specific recommendation.
@@DonAmos_stories that makes sense, but no, these devices have been designed with writing in mind and I have not come across anyone having issues with writing too much with the screen protector and pen provided 👍.
@@DonAmos_stories Yes, the Kobo is just not as good as a writing device and the Onxy is great but almost does too much. The Remarkable tries to be a paper replacement and nothing else and it does that better and simpler than any other device. For me the most direct competitor is Supernote but I still personally prefer Remarkable.
I totally agree 👍, it's very much like Remarkable in 2017 but better. However it is always a buy a product as it is today not on the promise of a future. Although it is very much good enough to buy today.
Alex, nobody writes with ball point pens today, and the same goes for fountain pens (except for enthusiasts). A better comparison would be to gel ink pens. You should give these a try.
That's an excellent point; I remember I used to write with gel pens loads, but I did not have any to hand when I did the videos. I agree that most people don't write with fountain pens, but I think lots of people still use ballpoint pens in an office environment because they are cheap. My kids might have some gel pens somewhere. I will have a look. Thank you very much for the comment and suggestion 👍.
Very interesting comparison. It also seems the Remarkable has less reflections than the Note Air. Said that, it can happens that good screen protection changes writing feeling even making the device better than others. I love the writing feeling on my Nova with a screen protector. But want to try the Remarkable at some point.
It's funny that you say that because I have just looked at them both and your right, but I had not really noticed that before 👍. The Remarkable is my go-to writer, but to be honest, if you enjoy the writing feel on the Nova with the screen protector, I am not sure that the RM2 will really add any value. Thanks for being my first comment on the video 😊, and I hope you get to try the Remarkable.
That’s true. In my knowledge, the onyx has a backlight and thus the screen is a tiny bit further away from the surface compared to the remarkable. Obviously it has some advantages and disadvantages. In my opinion, backlight is worth it.
@@amitbloomberg6846 A backlight is great, especially if it can take out the blue light for the evening. But I find that I like the theory of the light more than I need it in practice.
@@AlexSamuels With me, that depends on the on the season. During the summers when the sun is setting very late I usually don’t use the backlight at all, and the screen is adequately lit. But during the winters, when you don’t get many hours of sun light I use the backlight a lot. And especially while I’m traveling to and from uni (the lights on trains and buses isn’t great).
@@amitbloomberg6846 It’s a very good point Amit especially travel. Almost all of my work is done in a brightly lit area all year round. Or on a holiday usually chasing the sun 😂.
Thank you, Alex :) This was a helpful visual comparison
Glad it was helpful! 😊

Thanks a lot Alex for this great experiment! What the paper notebooks you're using? It looks well organized.

God the Kobo UI is an absolute nightmare of lag

As is your wont great content Alex. Question how do you change the tip on the reMarkable2 pen?

After taking law / legal exams ( 11 x 40 pages): you’re definitely gonna use a fountain pen. 😂
