  • Microsoft Flight Simulator is one of the most impressive games I’ve played in years: simulating not just the planes, but the world under them. Enjoy this Microsoft Flight Simulator gameplay as I explain eight Flight Simulator features that blew my mind.

This isn’t my final Microsoft Flight Simulator review - this action was captured from a build of the Microsoft Flight Simulator alpha. I’ve been flying around the globe for the last two weeks, constantly being blown away by the scale of the world and the depth of its systems. Take the Microsoft Flight Simulator weather, for example, which is not only realistic, but lets you tweak it in real-time to adjust perfect conditions or set the time of day just so. Or those magnificent Flight Simulator cities, that use photogrammetry to accurately build entire landscapes to scale. You can even see the billboards in Times Square. It’s crazy stuff.
So while this isn’t a full MS Flight Simulator review, know that I am very impressed. Not just with the range of features, but how accessible it is: with a few tutorials even an idiot like me can take to the skies and start exploring. As you’ll see in this Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 gameplay, I go all over the globe - marvelling at how much nicer the ocean is outside of the UK - and take in the incredible cloud tech. Wait until you see those Microsoft Flight Simulator clouds for yourself: they’re better than the real thing. Mainly because you can get rid of them with the press of a button. That would be handy for picnics.
If you have any questions about Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020, do pop them in the comments and I’ll do my best to answer them. We’ve got more videos coming up soon, so let me know if there’s any part of the globe you’d like to see in the next video. It’s honestly magic how accurate cities and the like look in this MS Flight Simulator gameplay. Thanks for flying with Rock Paper Shotgun and we’ll hopefully see you again soon.
Here are the chapters for this Microsoft Flight Simulator video. If you want a specific Microsoft Flight Simulator impressions, these are the topics covered.

Oxygen is never thin. The amount of oxygen is the same at every height. However the density of the air differs and therfore you can't get enough oxygen into your lungs at higher altitudes, because the air pressure is not high enough.;)

It's doing it without getting in the way of the sim community that's the challenge (bar making it all optional). Like, people graft their own game on top of this by living the simulation - working as air traffic controllers in the game, etc - and you wouldn't want to get in the way of that.

Well, this new FS have ground service, gate docking, pushbacks, all the things that airline pilot role-players have been wanting. So Asobo really listens to hardcore simmers, while keeping it accessible to newbies and casuals alike. Moreover, the SDK is out, meaning, keep your wallet open for modules and enhancements.

Some of A2A's planes for FSX have persistency of their mechanical condition so that they wear down as you fly them and need to be properly checked and maintained. It would be cool for all planes to have such a "my plane" feature so you could take your trusty bird round the world.

As an avid flight simulator enthusiast for the past 11 years, it's great to see a flightsim newcomer be so excited by this new sim. The entire flightsimming community is eagerly awaiting this release and has been blown away by the previews and screenshots. With the help of addons, our current flight simulators double as world simulators, and the new Microsoft Flight Simulator takes this to the next, amazing level. The fun comes from exploring the world as much as it does exploring study level detail of the aircraft we fly, and for many even more so.

For many new comers this will be just a game but if you have a genuine interest in Aviation it can and will become a Flight Simulation where you not only fly planes, but learn navigation (including flight planning), weather, mechanics, principles of flight, avionics and flight rules both visual (VFR) and instrument (IFR). Its an amazing world to explore.
