"For years" is definitely an understatement. I don't think the map will ever be truly "done". I'd be surprised if they built all the major cities of every country in less than a decade, but to build the entire Earth with the level of detail they've achieved so far would literally take centuries.
@@Dan0RG it will be worth the wait, no matter how long it might be. Probably one of the only forms of the actual full detailed earth all together virtually
It's evident you didn't update your MSFS because they fixed a huge chunk of the ground detail/building issues in world updates. Custom made 3D models of iconic landmarks, more up-to-date satellite imagery, and photogrammetry cities. Oh yeah, I'm also surprised you didn't know about the photogrammetry cities and called them "3D scans". Yes, that's what it is, but it's a massive sections of cities. Their updates are continuing and do them based off regions/countries.
sure the details of housing arnt always perfect, but they are pretty damn good. my house has a house about 1/3 as big next to it, and my others neighbours is about 30% bigger than ours. this is actually shown really well, with one neighbour having the smaller house and the other the bigger, and in more or less the right spot. the neighbour along from them is a farm, and one of thier barns is a flat block in the game, but still its incredible that it roughly gets the size and location of the houses pretty darn near perfect. just the actual house and its design is obviously different.
You know what i used to do. When i was trying and learning IFR and the how to engage the whole autopilot. I did longer flights and then i realised that they do take very long and it's kind of boring with the autopilot on, so there i was stuck in the cockpit with my VR gogglles. So at some point i was using the camera drone and because the 'camera drone' is attached to the airplane, its like flying (like superman style flying), i could go higher/lower/forward/back, but you would be moving with the plane. So in the end i'm just flying through the clouds and watching the landscape pass by. Hearing the wind, instead of the airplane, it's magical. The first time i went like this through a cloud, i actually opened my mouth, wanting to breath the cloud.. lol.. Vr is just awesome.. ;) Anyway, beats sitting in the cockpit looking at clouds.. 😅😅
To be honest this video does quite the contrary. Mfs has some qualities. But for exploring in 3d a city. You litterally just get a better experience opening google earth.
@@orchidahussuhadihcro9862 if you ignore how much better he says Flight Sim is than google earth, maybe. If you don't read the comments about there being update packs to the game that include a 3D scanned London and other cities, then maayyyybe. But considering all that, MS Flight Sim looks sick. Also I am vaguely interested in the flying too, so that's even more appeal.
@@Ocarina654 The world updates actually killed my interest. I live in France, and after the french world update, the landmarks were still messy all over the place. Even Paris is failed, and let's not even talk about its suburbs. What looks great in real life, doesn't look anything good in this flight sim. So the contemplation aspect is not very interesting. About the flying, it gets boring pretty fast. It lacks any kind of "fun" stuff to do. It lacks some basic "game" aspects. Even DCS is immensely more engaging and fun as a flight sim.
@@Ocarina654 Still sometimes I've found marvelous skylines and good mountain ranges to explore. If you want to try, i recommend you do without paying full price for it. The whole earth rendered in 3d is a bit gimmicky. It doesn't contribute a lot in the pleasure you'll take from it in the end.
I'm 3rd party developer for Flight Sim - and I got a trick for you. If you go into options/developers and activate developer mode, there is a different camera system ("developer camera") that works with mouse clicking and mouse wheel - much better for this kind of "flights" than moving around with the keyboard
You should have mentioned that slew, and Showcase Mode (Drone) can be keybound to your flight yoke. This makes them extremely easy to use. The sim accepts multiple definitions for the same key. And it figures out what mode you are in all by itself. This even works on the axis controls like the yoke itself. Some TH-camrs show their bindings for this and how to do it. I have it this way and it works.
as an aspiring pilot with a pilot dad, playing this game (more specifically with a vr) is insane to me, it did a really good job at making the insides of the planes and landmarks. overall it feels very realistic, though if you aren't interested in aviation, i can understand why you would find it boring and too complex for a flying sim.
Hey man I found my house in New Orleans while playing flight simulator.. they even used current google maps so my truck was out front lol.. I crash landed my plane next to my truck.. brought my neighbor over to smoke and watch me play it.. that day they used current google maps and saw game version of him outside his house washing cars.. his reaction was priceless!!
I think I can offer a reason why churches and other notable buildings aren't replicated in the game, as I've worked on games with similar landmarks. In a word: Licensing Various notable buildings have image rights that need to be licensed out from the building owners. If you play a game like GRID Legends for example you'll see in the credits that London Eye, Eiffel Tower etc. are called out as partners. Given that Microsoft is trying to replicate the entire world here those costs would be enormous, so I bet what happened is that they picked the landmarks "everyone knows about" (like the Eiffel Tower, Golden Gate Bridge etc.) and secured the rights to just those. This may also be why World Updates came post-launch as agreements to recreate certain buildings/cities may have taken long enough to be pushed to post-launch.
A lot of people are mentioning the marketplace free updates, but the title says "Base Game" specifically, so I think it makes sense to not have those updates included in the video
There is an easier way to do the freecam things that doesn't involve AS many keyboard shortcuts, just move your mouse towards the top of the screen, in the menu that appears open the camera tab and from there you can change your drone speed etc with sliders if I remember that part correctly.
haha, not so much because of the hand crafted aspects for Australia my house is there with my car on the lawn and house mates van on the street, it is truly jaw dropping
Very interesting - thanks for this. The lack of churches is interesting, I'm not religious but I agree with you with respect to how churches characterise a town or city. Plus the weird roads and bridges was strange, Some difference from flight sim 2001 which I had.

Oh yeah, I'm also surprised you didn't know about the photogrammetry cities and called them "3D scans". Yes, that's what it is, but it's a massive sections of cities.
Their updates are continuing and do them based off regions/countries.
And dont forget the Free DLCs that are quite hefty but brings even more places into a good perspective.
I think if the map can use in open world games it will be the biggest, long-term, and biggest size game ever, especially can be played online
its pretty cool that bohemia interactive simulations has a procedurally generated 1:1 scale planet that pulls from real world data
I think this is all part of Microsoft's plan to make us forget about Microsoft Train Simulator, the best game ever developed.
I enjoy the fact that kliks commentary style is bone-dry, makes the jokes hit harder because you can't see them coming
I love Phil randomly rants about something trivial
This video made me consider getting Flight Simulator
“i’m a little sad to see that trains have been neglected though” we are of similar mind fellow train enjoyer
"Flight sim thinks the world is round" you got me there 🤣
amazing video as always!
sure the details of housing arnt always perfect, but they are pretty damn good. my house has a house about 1/3 as big next to it, and my others neighbours is about 30% bigger than ours. this is actually shown really well, with one neighbour having the smaller house and the other the bigger, and in more or less the right spot. the neighbour along from them is a farm, and one of thier barns is a flat block in the game, but still its incredible that it roughly gets the size and location of the houses pretty darn near perfect. just the actual house and its design is obviously different.
You should download the world updates they have. It adds so much more detail
Wow! What an acomplishment this game is! Its crazy that this even runs on home computers!
spectacular video! you have a new subscriber
If you meant for this to be an advertisement for MS Flight Sim, then you succeeded. Holy gosh that looks so cool to fly around in.
@@orchidahussuhadihcro9862 hey, fair enough!
I love that I could see my 5000 people small Czech town in a game.
love the video Philip this game always made me have questions, but I didn't wanna spend $60 to find out what u put in this video
Can you make a video like this for MSFS 2024
You should have mentioned that slew, and Showcase Mode (Drone) can be keybound to your flight yoke. This makes them extremely easy to use. The sim accepts multiple definitions for the same key. And it figures out what mode you are in all by itself. This even works on the axis controls like the yoke itself. Some TH-camrs show their bindings for this and how to do it. I have it this way and it works.
what a great video, you can make me interested in any game you choose
Haven’t heard anyone else mention Wells on youtube. Best city you’ve never been to 😍
2:58 no wonder they call it the big blue planet
as an aspiring pilot with a pilot dad, playing this game (more specifically with a vr) is insane to me, it did a really good job at making the insides of the planes and landmarks. overall it feels very realistic, though if you aren't interested in aviation, i can understand why you would find it boring and too complex for a flying sim.
It’s only as real as the friends you make along the way.
In a word: Licensing
Various notable buildings have image rights that need to be licensed out from the building owners.
Holding out hope that someday this will be available as Microsoft Earth, purely for exploration and aesthetics
Man I was really hoping for a "Have fun!" in the end :D
that opening is full of suspense though lol, you keep flying left and more left.
Osea que para conocer ciudades no sirve?, O hay una forma de poder hacerlo
haha, not so much because of the hand crafted aspects for Australia my house is there with my car on the lawn and house mates van on the street, it is truly jaw dropping
It's so funny to start watching this video and seeing him talk so much about Cologne
Its so impressive that all of this detail is even in a flight sim
Very interesting - thanks for this. The lack of churches is interesting, I'm not religious but I agree with you with respect to how churches characterise a town or city. Plus the weird roads and bridges was strange, Some difference from flight sim 2001 which I had.
Great video as always
my favorite time of video
an exploration of something unrelated to the original goal of something
this is awesome!
Love your videos
Imagine the size of the game on disk if the entire world was 3D scanned in there 😬
It streams the data from servers also the base game is around 120 gigabytes if I remember correctly
The game you are looking for it called Outerra. It is basically the msf world but without flying and in way higher detail
"This game does not need to look better" - zooms in on a truck driving into the ground
