- What's the point of it all if she may never do it completely on her own? Honestly, a lot of it has to do with desire. She has no desire to do a lot of the things we teach her so not much effort is put into the task. She is certainly capable of doing so much more but how do you teach that part of it? Anyway...thanks for hanging out with us while we do laundry lol.

I just don't understand the mentality of anyone "trashing" anyone else. It is just plain mean and cruel. Anyone who would actually read the title of your channel would know that it is "Fathering Autism". It is very clear for me that you are the vlogger and you choose what we see. I have been watching your channel since it's inception and I think you are both amazing parents who have worked out your chores in your relationship and no one has the right to judge you. My suggestion for the truck…which u hv probably thought of…but just in case….1)drive around with mechanic to see if u can duplicate the problem. 2)take the truck out, videotaping while driving to catch what happens. Show video to mechanic. 😎

I'm 42 and you are right, women are mean. I've had more guy friends in my life then G friends. Guys for the most part don't start drama. Not downing anyone but that's what I have noticed.

As a mom with a autistic son I love your channel and how amazing you are with your beautiful daughter...we always taught our son he is different in some ways just learns differently yet still very smart he just cant communicate same as others but never unable to do things ...you guys are amazing ❤

The lint tray is one of the things that drives me crazy!! I have a friend who I used to help my mom clean his house. I pulled out the lint tray. I said his name over and over

Cut some PVC legs to slide over the existing legs and you can make the table the height you want with PVC leg extenders lol. It does really work.
I have learned a lot and how to help my sister in law show my nephew how to do things with him he is young but we as a whole family has learned a lot from the vlogs and I appreciate all the vlogs and I applaud you for doing this and show ppl different ways to help with the smallest tasks with a child with asd

It perturbs me when people post negative remarks about this vlog. I have learned some much about autism, how it affects family, resources, programs available and tips to use to help accommodate learning or activities. I’ve never dealt with the challenges that the Maas family faces but I applaud the love and patience these parents have to help Abbey live the best life ever.

Pricilla does so much for their family. She does what she is proficient at and Asa does what he is proficient at. So many families who don’t have the challenges that this couple has faced (beyond what you see even) can’t make it half as long as they have been married so far and end up in divorce. I have been watching these people for so many years and I know these two work as a team. They have a system that works for their family and they should be so proud of themselves for the life they have created. Their team includes Isaiah. This young man is such an amazing human. He has been a support since he was a little kid. Their families and extended family has been a support as well. But from what I have seen, they have pushed through and fought through the system to get the help required to make Abbie’s life full and inclusive.

If they can’t find anything wrong with your truck, just go and enjoy your vacation. It could be a malfunctioning computer chip that was acting up and fixed itself. My microwave has a mind of its on, sometimes when I use it, it turns itself off and other times I have to unplug it to get it turned off and they said it was made during Covid so the chip could be bad. I use it as long as it does the job.
Im surprised you dont “roll” laundry-military style. My father taught me as a kid and i still do it. Less wrinkles/creases.

I work with two teenagers both with autism I get alot of resistance such as "No no no" "I can't and I don't want to" but 100% goal is to teach as much independance is possible that is what I do as a community habilitation work that is always my focus
It’s great that Florida does that with school funding. It seems like y’all have great programs there. I had to move to New York from Texas so that my daughter could attend an all day ABA program.

My Honda CR-V threw out every code in the book on my way home from grandkids, one day. It was running fine, but of course I was worried. My husband researched this on TH-cam and it said it I'd common and told us what to do. They said to drive it around the block then slam on the brakes, that should reset the codes. It actually worked!! Had to reset compass and some other things, but it worked!

As a fellow one time autism father (son is grown and lives in the care of others with more stamina) I can tell you that I push to have my son help with chores because it teaches delayed gratification. He also has anxiety and zero leisure skills (that are appropriate anyway) and there’s nothing worse for anxiety than doing nothing. Sure, it may feed the OCD but like I said in a way it keeps him busy and focusing on a task means that he doesn’t ruminate on things that are bothering him. Also, doing things with others also both models social behavior and reinforces social connections - because let’s face it, the term “itself” is inaccurate because I see the desire in both Abbie and my son to socialize with people who make them feel good about themselves.
Life skills are essential for everyone for many reasons..self worth, independence just to name a cpl
I'm a 57 year old with 5 boys two with special needs and a daughter and also five grandchildren. I agree women can be so mean. That is why I have female acquaintances and not friends. Thought I had a best friend a couple of points in my life. But nope.🤪

I think that Abbie is much more cooperative with doing chores than most kids her age. You might have to give her step by step instructions but you have to do that with MOST kids. Abbie is doing really well! I love to watch your videos just because you are really an inspiration to how to keep your patience when parenting.
And ignore the haters. My husband and I both spend a lot of time with our kid but rarely together, so if he has a vlog, you’d never see me. Hubby does all the sports + cooking, while I handle laundry and cleaning. This is called sharing responsibilities. It is perfectly normal and healthy for parents. It is such an outdated view for people to think that taking care of children is the MOTHERS job. It takes two people to make a child. It takes two people to raise a child.

My son has a autism scholarship through the state of Ohio for his school. When he first started (2020) it was like 22k a yr to the school this yr (next school year) it's 34k! Though I know the staff is still not paid nearly enough

Yoders Restaurant and Buffet,New Holland ,PA where I am from. Shady Maple Maple Smorgasbord, Lapp Valley Farm. My favorite ice cream ever is black rasberry , try Birch Beer (it is a soda),Scrapple(don't ask).Strasburg,Pa just a few places. The fresh country air is the best😊.

We all know Cilla makes guest appearances in the video lol, no seriously only joking. Most of us are aware and have heard you mention many times Cilla ( mom ) does lots of things with Abbie, majority of the times of camera which is her prerogative. I think Abbie is more perceptive than we think, as you said she might not do some things on her ever, but she does like to surprise you and us quite often with what she knows. Blessings.
Just out of curiosity, do you worry that she could fall into the pool or run into the street? is it something she won’t do at her age and stage of development? I noticed in another clog when you were turning the car on and she was waiting… she won’t run into the street?
No, she wouldn't do that. She's aware of most dangers like that, Abbie has grown up around pools, and learned to swim when she was very young, even if she was to for some reason fall into the pool she'd be fine cos she knows how to swim and float and hold her breath etc. When she was younger she mightve ran into the street or something, "eloping" - she used to do that a lot, they were a lot more vigilant with her back then, nowadays probably cos of her age she doesn't do that anymore, and she's a lot more aware of the dangers of the roads etc

Has your daughter graduated high school? My son graduates this Friday. We have a 529 that the family has been putting money in forever, but we realize that our son will not go to college. This 529 account can only be used for education. So we are trying to figure out what to do. Our investment broker says that we can put it into a IRA but he can't use it until he is 65. He won't live that long so we are trying to find other ways to put that money in that he can use around 21 years old to help him.
