- Colombia is one of the last countries in the world where Douglas DC3 planes still operate.
This plane was built 80 years ago and is able to take off and land in rural places where conditions are very complicated.

I really love the no nonsense way that these guys can repair a DC-3 engine like an every day car problem. Much respect to these people, and the pilots!
that's because these are piston engines just like the ones in your car. These planes were originally designed and built before jet engines were invented. But Kudos to the pilots and engineers who still keep them flying with all the love these planes deserve.
I respect the hard work and skill of these mechanics, but there is no way I would fly on one of these planes. All these engines are on their last legs. These planes would never be certified to fly in the USA. When I see that mechanic setting that cylinder down on the dirt, I just cringe.
@@jerryschneider145 did you saw the video? they said clearly that these planes dont have license to fly even in Colombia, but they are still vital for some remote regions thats why they still fly. jesus

Soy cubano y mi pasion es la aviacion,Excelente video, mi avion favorito, desde que era nińo, siendo muchacho, 8 o 9 años vole’ de mi pueblo Baracoa, a Santiago de Cuba y quede’ fascinado,,pues eran los DC~3 los que volaban diariamente a mi pueblo, pues no habia acceso por tierra,felicito a los pilotos y mecanicos, son unos verdaderos heroes ! ❤️🎻🇵🇷👍🙏🇨🇺🇺🇸😁
Air Colombia and it's flight crew and maintenance crew done a phenomenal job keeping these birds from flying and we're talking about 80 years after its first one rolled off the assembly line. That folks is truly phenomenal! Congratulations to Air Colombia for providing a much needed service to the folks that can't barely afford otherwise to make it possible in a nearly century old bird! She's the most iconic airplane of all times. She's the first that I flew in, Island hopped from Western Samoa to American Samoa back in '64 when I was only 6yo. It's when I dreamt of becoming a pilot back then. My uncle was a Chief Engineer, testpilot and part owner of Polynesian Airlines in it's infancy. I wished PA maintained the DC-3's like Air Colombia. They probably would've saved a bundle, plus contend with a smaller passenger haul with the twin otters.

I strongly recommend you the book El Alcaravan from German Castro Caycedo. From taking out a DC-3 sunk on a river and making it fly again, repairing a DC-3 split in half, describing how a Native became aircraft mechanic, pilot and later politician, or how they survived multiple crashes in the jungle.This book is a gem.
He just pulled the cowling off that engine like it was a car hood and said, “aw hell, it’s the dagg gum carburetor “

DC3 production started in 1938, which was prior to the outbreak of WW2, and there are still dozens of them in service today.

First flew 1936 last one made 1946. A few hundred give or take still in use and making money. Im seeing this as beginning only 33 years after first Wright Bros flight and thereafter not ending, the machine has outlived everyone who created it.

Que maravilla de documental. Un homenaje a verdaderos pilotos, de alma y corazón. Uno se queda con ganas de conocer más de esta historia de la aeronautica de Colombia. Excelente documentario de un legendario avión y sus magnificas tripulaciones, hombre y máquina que muestran, bravura, fuerza y poder.
Gran documental de uno de los mejores si no es que es el mejor avion que a existido, aun funcionando aun da utilidad no se como no han sacado un avion que pueda hacer lo mismo o mejor para los lugares mas inaxecibles, porque mejores aviones a muuchos pero casi ninguno puede llegar donde este si.
Y todos mir respetos al equipo que se esfuerza por recuperar un avion de estos en un lugar tan remota sin herramienta practicamente ni medios
No entiendo porqué no le hacen la conversión a motores turboprop a esos aviones y los modernizan un poco. Tampoco entiendo porqué hay personas que elijen vivir en sitios tan remotos. Tampoco entiendo porqué el gobierno no invierte en desarrollar esas áreas del país?

The turboprop conversion for a DC-3 to Basler BT-67 (Turboprop DC-3) is very expensive. $3,750,000 USD for a turboprop conversion, a non-converted DC-3 can cost as low as $100,000 USD. Similar replacements like the Saab 340, ATR 42, Dash 8 etc are also more expensive and require retraining of all crew and personnel.
Beautifully filmed. Great articulation of the soul behind this company and its aviators. A human mission, not a commercial one.
Really enjoyed watching this documentary. The skillful men who keep these aircraft flying are incredible. The DC3 is a wonderful aircraft, and what a great history it has. May the bird fly on and on

Siento alegria al ver este Documental...de como hay que luchar para mantener viva la esperanza en muchos de ellos...siento nostalgia y satisfaccion de ver que estos aviones aun tienen ese espiritu de volar ...y que te transporta a epocas no vividas pero si vistas a traves de una pantalla...se que aun queda gente que siente pasión de reparar , crear , y mantener, de que estos aparatos como les dicen muchos mayores sigan volando,..como uno por un coche y se convierte en un clásico...repararlo y mantenerlo en funcionamiento...hacer las piezas de repuesto toda una artesania...Felicitaciones a todos ellos que hoy por hoy mantienen vivo estos Pueblos alejados quizas de toda realidad.

Uno de los mejores documentales que he visto de los DC-3 en Colombia. Bravo por tan maravilloso trabajo de filmación y edición. Mis felicitaciones para todo el equipo que lo hizo posible y mostrarle al mundo lo hermoso de la aviación y en especial esos históricos aviones Douglas DC-3.

At first I thought this was going to be some video similar to those daredevil pilots of Aerosucre videos but after the first scene realized this is in fact a really good pre-COVID pandemic documentary. Really good job overall and Kudos to Captain Sanclemente for his professionalism and airmanship. After reading the accident report it is shockng to learn this accident was caused by such nefarious negligence from the military base and the office of Guainia's governor. Thanks for this awesome piece of history.

I was in the live presence of one for the first time, it was running and took off for a maintenance flight. I tried but it was not in the cards to talk my way on board, i shall persist it’s on my bucket list.

Excelente documental, saludo a esos Héroes que llevan el sustento a esas apartadas regiones, en este bello país,mientras,los gobiernos no dan el apoyo suficiente a esos empresarios , pilotos y mecánicos que heroicamente, pretenden apoyar a esos compatriotas que intentan sobrevivir en tan remotos lugares.

I would rather fly with Colombian Airways in a DC3 today than with British Airways in anything they have to offer, they are without a shadow of doubt the worst airline on the face of the planet, and I know because I’ve flown in most.

Viaje en esos aviones desde villavicencio hasta cumaribo, de villavicencio a carimagua, a pto carreño a pesar de ser seguros siempre me daba algo de temor , ma si embargo nunca paso nada gracias a Dios , esos aviones son los todo terreno del aire
