    I've been trying to work my way through Vincent Price films, and I recently watched this and The Masque of the Red Death. Both were awesome films, not exactly what would be considered "scary" these days, but they're very enjoyable and still hold up pretty well.

    You can't be wrong with William Castle and Vincent Price. It's like a parody which became a subgenre classic, like "Scream" did for a slasher.

    • @oskar_oskarewicz
      @oskar_oskarewicz 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Scream is rather a pastiche, not parody.
      It plays with the tropes, make fun of them, but in the same time it honours them.
      Humor comes from a satire, not parody.

      @@oskar_oskarewicz The characters in the movie literally make fun of the tropes and then subvert them. It's a parody

      @@charlessmith299 Well, to me Scary movie is a parody, Scream has comedic tone to it and a commentary on tropes, but personally I wouldn't call it a parody

    The remake introduced me to the original. They're both enjoyable to me with the newer one being more of what you expected...a slasher movie with lots of slashers. The original is more like a creepy "Clue".

    That's a cool effect. I've seen that happen on DVDs and even TH-cam videos. It must some kind of digital distortion. But here it almost looked like you could see the guys skull coming through his face. It would be a cool effect to incorporate into a horror film.
    Like say there's a newlywed couple watching their wedding video. And as they watch it, they notice faces of some of their loved ones are distorted. And then they get a call that the people who's faces were distorted died or where in an accident or something. And as the video continues to play, more faces are distorted and more people die. Until they get to the end of the video and the couple's faces are distorted and that's the end of the movie.

    I love this movie, and Vincent Price is one of my favorite actors. Back when this was made, if you were part of the audience then, this movie would have had you anxious. The emotions and mentality of folks back then were not as ....exposed or enriched (however you want to label it) as ours in this day and age. It takes a lot to scare us now, but back then, hysteria was powerful.
