On my last-ever day on the WSR, a great bloke (whom I believe was called Brian) fixed me up with a footplate ride from BL to Dunster, there to join my "lift" back to Essex. En route - via Stonehenge - we witnessed a truly WONDERFUL sunset!!!
I have watched the WSR grow for many years in fact since the days of Vulcan and Victor the two saddle tanks that ran on lines for a few years.. the staff and volunteers of the railway are to be congratulated on bringing it so far forward. Many thanks Admiral Dave Dear Coventry.
A truly GREAT railway with wonderful staff and volunteers. In the four years I travelled across from Essex, it was also fantastic for me not to get on with only one person... The GM at this time was a really great guy with a good sense of humour! As a former mainline (working on the ER, SR and WR as a senior technical officer/track engineer/training & safety manager, I enjoyed regular visits to the WSR from 2014-18 and actually got paid reasonably for my expenses and efforts. However, I left mainly owing to the growing expenses of travel from Essex and the cost of 'lodging'... It took me several hours for the travel endured each way.
I have been watching your Vlogs for a while and had not realized i had not Subscribed. i was travelling and making a video on the west somerset railway last week and was chatting with one of the guards that mention you and i said i had been watching your Channel! Great stuff! Best wishes Darren👌👍👍👍
Nice to see 7820 Dinmore Manor. I'm turning back towards model railway operations next month. A lot of new videos are lined up, with my new N Gauge Winter Wonderland Railway being first in the offerings. After that, it's 00 gauge operations galore every week till before Christmas. I'd love to see Odney Manor running on your railway, I miss her very much.
Very interesting video Mike it's good to look back. Quick question...do you think passenger numbers have increased over the years as I seem to remember that it wasn't so busy in them days
Thank you Graham. In answer to your question Val and I believe especially this year passenger numbers seem to have increased greatly, which is very good for the WSR.
@@mattdandex 53808 is on the Mid-Hants (Watercress Line) out of ticket, awaiting assessment on what is required to be done; which will definitely include a new tender tank.
These small rural railway stations have a special atmosphere. I can not put it into words, but one thing is for sure; this atmosphere is captivating.
That is very true .They certainly do!

Yes there were and are some great Volunteers on the railway.
The late Nigel Smart driving Kilmersdon (Loco now on the Mid-Hants) and myself amongst others in the opening shots.
I did wonder if that was you, near the beginning. I haven't seen the lady photographer with the grey hair for ages. Do you know if she has moved away?

You certainly have had some railway experiences.
Great to look back at previous locos and also the stations as they were back when, great memories, thanks Mike.
Thank you Terry.
Thanks Admiral - it was certainly better weather then! Lovely to see the turntable in use & a double header.
I love that we can look back in time like this!
Very enjoyable. Thank you!
Its our pleasure David.

Val and I look forward to seeing your new videos, Kelly. We also miss Odney Manor.
Sad to think of Raveningham Hall languishing in a Margate warehouse. Dinmore now on GWSR
If you want to see Odney Manor running on my model railway. see the video titled " A trip to Valendorf" By Exmore Bay Drones.

It’s sad that 88 (53808) isn’t based on the WSR anymore. She was one of my favourite and a reliable performer
Yes it seemed fixed to the WSR until certain people fell out with each other!
@@ADMIRALSCORNERwhat do you mean by fell out with other?
@@mattdandex I don't know what caused the rift but it must have been a serious disagreement.

My last ever year at the Autumn Steam Gala's. Was there from 2008 to 2014. Cannot afford to travel now.
That is a shame Robert.
@@ADMIRALSCORNER I know. But it is the truth. Not been to any preserved line since early July 2019.
