I love that snare reverb I feel like it really set the feel of those drums, and the arpeggios on the bridge really give it that almost daft punk inspired feel. Super dope!
How to make 80s style beats for The Weeknd: Step 1: listen to a lot of Japanese city pop Step 2: copy it (or just straight up sample it like he did in out of time)
@@Crowncity You’re not wrong, but the point I was making is that the weeknd was clearly trying to emulate that specific style of jazz fusion from japan, so if you wanna make beats like those, copy it lol (side note, theres a city pop album by toshiki kadomatsu that played out as if it was on a radio station with a DJ introducing every song and talking between tracks, so that element was definitely imitated on Dawn FM)
I love the weeknd and I love Michael Jackson and they are both my favourite because they sound so similar and this beat definitely gives me early MJ vibes I love it!
This is so good ! Congrast Jay ! I want a whole album of this 🤯 My favorite The Weeknd is the Whole Dawn Fm album ! I've listen to it countless times !
I have been producing and beat making and making music for over 20 years and bro bro your ear and feel is something that can not be taught. Absolutely amazing work on every song on every video.
This video is incredible, & I love your whole collection of videos from different eras. My mind was blown seeing you pull out the Oberheim in this one. Perfect for this style of music.
Killer demo! Thanks for bringing our Jason Miles patch library to the spotlight, you really make it sing. And... Fav track on Dawn FM, its gotta be "Out of Time" ❤🎶🎹
Loving your series so much! Txs for bringing the sound of diferents eras to new producers, i really love all the 80s music, i have done some records with some vintage gear and working now in a modern studio make me feelt a little nostalgic of those machines and all the workflow, all my partners use splice, and soft synths and they think im like crazy talking about the old synths and all the work to get the sound u need, but watching you make me felt safe looking the real gear and hearing it, so they can to!! and stop thinking im crazy jajajaja
Thank you! You're not crazy at all. Hardware machines are definitely more fun to use. Splice and soft synths are faster, I use them when I don't have alot of time but using the vintage gear makes me more creative.
My favorite track is Out Of Time. The entire album is a vibe lol but that Quincy Jones sound locked me into that track. I’ll always sing my little heart out to that song
I can't get enough of this vibe that you have provided and everything being broken down to every detail. King Jay, thank you for this! Never stop! 🎶🎶🎶🎶👑👑✊🏿✊🏿
I just can't shake the feeling that the title should be "How To Make Modern '80s Funk Like Max Martin." But you know... :) Found your video by chance. Nice track. You nailed that '80s funk/soul sound.
ay this was a really dope video and the beat was also bumping it sounded like if you mixed the Weeknd with like a g funk twist really good. also um in the intro you said that the album was released in 2002 yeah I don't think it was released back then 😅 no worries ( also last thing you're probably the first person I have seen to make a beat with a suit and tie ay gotta be formal 😄)
@@jaydiggsmusic You better do a physical copy, which I still do have... And a digital copy, with all the extras like you did last time... which I also have. Keep funkn 🤟🏿
0:17 *2022, not 2002. But just imagine there being an alternative universe where The Weeknd was an R&B artist in the 90’s and transitioned to this sound in the 2000’s. Lol
What's your favorite Weeknd song??
Most stuff from Dawn FM, funny enough.
Half of the songs from Dawn FM. Probably Sacrifice.
@@Rashy225 Gasoline
@@soaribb32sacrifice, out of time, a lonely night, every angel is terrifying, how do I make you love me, gasoline, take my breath and dawn fm.

We need an album of this. Seriously.
I love that snare reverb I feel like it really set the feel of those drums, and the arpeggios on the bridge really give it that almost daft punk inspired feel. Super dope!
This is dope af, very well presented and inspiring. You have a new follower
Cannot believe how well you nailed those weeknd vocals lmao. Awesome work!
This is mentally underrated. HOW. bro is way too good.🔥🔥🔥
How to make 80s style beats for The Weeknd:

facts lol
Yea but who did the Japanese get it from? This is black music homeboy

I tried to sample Midnight Pretenders once (the sample from Out of Love) and got flagged for The Weeknd's song.
Made me mad for the original artist 🤣
I don't know where to begin. The whole track is awesome, but those vocals, man, sooo good!

I appreciate how more technical you got in this episode, interesting stuff
That was lovely.
I miss this DMX drum sound.
That arp on the bridge with the decay increasing was thriller type ish for real awesome groove Jay
I love the weeknd and I love Michael Jackson and they are both my favourite because they sound so similar and this beat definitely gives me early MJ vibes I love it!

Commenting to say love your stuff and encouraging anyone who hasn't already done so to buy Jams on his bandcamp, it's an excellent album!
This is a master class. The power of duplicating just taught me something lol. Such a small but important technique. Start simple then add on
My favorite track is Out Of Time. The entire album is a vibe lol but that Quincy Jones sound locked me into that track. I’ll always sing my little heart out to that song
You gotta release this man so so good
Cant decide between Angel and As You Are as my fav The Weeknd songs

Dude, did you say Dawn FM came out in 2002?! that freaked me out for a moment, I thought I was going nuts.
When do you plan to release this song, am I waiting for it?

If you can have a look over Dabeull, favourite of mine would be DR. Fonk .. definitely will give some sort of inspiration
Feel it coming and star boy
Can you do a video producing like its the late 2000s to Early 2010s like Love In This Club Usher or Down by Jay Sean
Did you mean 2022 not 2002? I also didn't know you made post disco boogie. I love that pack
I would love to hear your take on darksynth tbh
future video coming
This great!!!
Also need to learn the way you mix your vocals ❤
That thumbnail scared tf outta me 😂
Aaayyyyeeeeee!!! 🎶❤️🔥👏🏾💯

Can you make his original chill, midnight haunted sounds?
yeah, I'll do that in a future video
Sheesh!!!🔥
For your next making a beat in a type from Michael Jackson use an LPDA laptop pad controller
Step 1: be amazing at everything
Nice Song 🎶
🔥 I think it would’ve been dope to have layered the synth bass with a real bass. That’s just me. But great track!
In 2002?
Alright nah! I hope you saving some of these JAMS 😁 for the new album...
