    Ive been away. Nice to be back. You have been very helpful for me Chris, I just wanted to thank you for that. I went back to Cubase after years, and I relied on so many of your videos. You never "DAW Hated" either.

    Perfect timing, Chris...I'm adding the groove to a melody line that I've created as we speak. Well, technically we're not 'speaking' and it was the middle of my night when you premiered - but you know what I mean! 😂 So, I just downloaded Klanghelm VUMT and had a play with my kick and bass levels...Voila! It really tightens up the low end and helps it sit nicely in the mix. Simple and effective - exactly what I need. 🤜💥🤛

    #SpoilerWarning. This is the old 'fade the kick so it's kissing -3db on a VU metre. Then push up the bass until both combined are kissing 0db on the VU metre', right? Works a charm!

      @@mixdownonline Sorry pal! Amazing trick though, really does work. One question though... are there any decent VU meters built into Cubase? Does the new metering plugin in 11 have a VU metre?

  • @VasilisKoskinas

    Thanks for reminding this method, I've seen somewhere but with the calibration on VU plugin at -10 for some reason.Does this matter?

    Does cubase have a Stock vu-metre? Or can i use the regular mixer-metres for this purpose aswell?

    • @mixdownonline
      @mixdownonline  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Cubase doesn't have a VU Meter and the use of a Meter Peak Level meter will not work as well as a Vu Meter since VU Meters are average level meters. Check this video th-cam.com/video/1bnuiCiS3FA/w-d-xo.html I share a bunch of FREE Plugins and there's a VU Meter on the list

  • @newheightsfitness1461

    Interesting... I struggle with this, but mine is more to do with quick double kicks and blast beats and frequency build up in the low end.

    • @JullarMusic
      @JullarMusic 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would suggest looking into some multi-band compressor plug ins. Slap a multi band compressor mainly focusing on the low end (maybe 120hz and below) and have it activate just enough to tame the frequencies building up.
      You could also automate the volume of the kick to lower by 1-2db when the fast double kicks come about

    While this was no news to me, I always appreciate your way of teaching us lesser knowledgable this neat tricks. I have however a kind of related issue, I seem always to start of with way too low midrange and highs after doing this low end balancing. And its's often not until I do the car stereo check I realize my low end is way too overpowering. Any ideas on why and what to do not to fall into that trap?

    when you have the bass in "shuffle notes" it practically does not overlap the "kick" how do you proceed with the measurement of the Vu meter? Thanks

    • @madmuso5
      @madmuso5 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Duplicate your bass gtr track and nudge it so the bass gtr and kick drum play at the same time. Musically it will obviously sound like crap but the objective is to have the bass gtr and kick combining together. Once you balance the duplicate bass gtr track as shown in the video. Set your original bass gtr track fader to the same level.

    Why adding a ST OUT track in your mixer when the Stereo Out track can do the same job?

    • @sakoviec
      @sakoviec 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Simple Anwser! Mixing with references. You don't want them to be affected by your master chain. Bypassing all plugins everytime you want to listen to your reference would unnecessarily take too much time. Hope that clears it for you:)

  • @Noone-of-your-Business
    @Noone-of-your-Business 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    In other words, you make sure that they both have exactly the same amplitude in the mix?
    No, really - this is not a rhetorical question.

    • @mixdownonline
      @mixdownonline  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Not necessary, but close enough, yes, if you measure this with a VU Meter. In some cases, they will have the same amplitude and in other cases you might find 1 or 2 dbVU difference. Don't forget that with VU meters, we're talking about average levels and not peak level measurements.
