Same! I got all the hybrids except green mums and blue roses From the other guides but I’ve been doing the wrong combination for these two flowers… Which really kind of makes me mad that I’m wasting time and space on the island

I was struggling getting purple windflowers and pansies from hybrid reds, but you can try another thing to get them faster if you have the space to do so. To increase your chances you can use some of the blues you get from these hybrids reds to get purples. Half of the blues have the right genes to produce a purple 25% of the time. So you can either put them together and hope that you get a purple or you can test those to know if they are the right blues. The good blue windflowers will produce pink 50% of the time when bred with an orange seed. The good blue pansy will produce orange 50% of the time when bred with a yellow seed. Once you get the right blues getting the purple is way easier. It takes some time and effort, but it helped me get the hybrids I wanted.
Thanks. The only two varieties I'm still missing are the purple pansies and the blue rose. I'm not really worried about the blue rose, because - if you do it right - you have a 1/4 chance of a blue rose in the end with two special red roses. With the hybrid red pansies though, I just don't have any luck. I think I'll try to use that blue pansy method instead. Seems much more reliable...
Oh, is that how that happened?? I slapped a blue and orange pansy together in an attempt to get hybrid red, but those two overachievers spawned a purple pansy instead. I'm not complaining, but weird! :D
I was so lucky with my pansies. Got a purple from reds that I thought were all from seeds. I was actually trying to breed my blues for one but the reds produced one instead.

Hybrid pink windflower or hybrid red windflowers are both created from pink seeds and blue wind flower. HR HP or any combination of the two makes purple. Doesn’t change your guide but makes getting purple a lot easier as it doubles your chances!

I got a purple tulip from two black tulips once. I got my first few purple pansies from orange pansies. The blue pansies gave me purple pansies too. I got both the orange and blue pansies from a mystery island tour. So I guess sometimes you can get these colors from a method you didn't list. I was using the wrong method for the purple windflowers, no wonder it wasn't working... thanks for the correct method.
Yes as mentioned there are over 10,000 different combinations of hybrid genotypes. For example, there are 5 different "versions" of orange pansy, 2 of which will never result in a purple. This "list" is the simplest way to get each flower starting from seeds where we know what the genes will be.
Yeah, usually hybrid flowers from mystery islands (as you know they are disabled at the moment) carry different genes than ones you get from breeding seed flowers, and the ones from the islands usually carry the correct genes to make 3rd generation hybrids (green mum, purple windflowers etc.)
@Princess Kyle. I finally got a blue using the purple and orange roses to get the hybrid red. I cloned the hybrid red till I had I think six, and within a week I had one blue rose which I’m now trying to clone.

these purple flowers will be the death of me. i haven’t even attempted blue roses yet, i’m waiting to make all my other hybrids first so i can dedicate my entire breeding area to making blue roses. but all the purples (and the black cosmos) and taking forever 🙃

I'm almost 6 months late to the party, but if there's anyone reading, I have a question: in terms of available space needed for breeding, do pairs of flowers FIRST successfully breed and THEN use any space available, so long as there is one free, or do they benefit from having as many spaces available around them because they choose a space first and then breed? I've always assumed it's the former, but I've never had confirmation. Props to anyone giving me a definitive answer; I happened to come back to the game a few days ago and I'm picking flower breeding back up.
I forget where I got my hyacinths from, I think my friend gave me 5 seed bags in each color if I recall correctly. Anyways so I had a bunch in a plot for decoration mainly, wasn’t quite going for hybrids, just wanted them there to be there & whenever they were overgrown, I’d take some out scatter them around the island to make it look pretty & when I had enough of them, I tossed the extra red, yellow, & whites that grew. In one spot, I had two yellows right next to each other but no other hyacinth color anywhere near them, just the two yellows. It rained for 4 days straight, was clear for a day, then rained again. Weather on my island is too similar to where I live lol. Anyways in this time, not sure at which exact point because I noticed it after the 5th rainy day, those two yellows made an orange so they have some weird genetics in them, dunno how I got an orange from them but I did.
you know what's weird, i had an island i started on launch day with native cosmos, and i was working on old AC logic so i just kept stacking up red cosmos whether from seeds or breeding with other flowers, and within a couple of weeks those reds produced a black cosmos. but i've been trying the "datamined" combinations for a black cosmos on my new island for WEEKS now and still no black cosmos. and of course as far as blue roses, i'm trying the 4-step method but my pink/yellows absolutely REFUSE to breed. so i'm probably gonna see a blue rose sometime around christmas.
You can get purple tulips from breeding black with black as well, and I got a purple pansy from a blue and red pansy. My first and only purple so far. I got my first purple hyacinth from two yellows too.
Those black tulips would have to be the same genotype as the ones you get on hybrid islands. I assume the reason he didn’t mention it here is because you have to get those by testing it with a seed white to confirm the genes. And that’s only after it came from orange tulips that were from seed reds and seed yellows. Since this isn’t supposed to be a super complicated guide, I’m assuming that’s why he didn’t mention it. Also, those blue and red pansies must have been mystery island blues and either 101 or 201 reds. As for the hyacinths, they would have had to be 112s or 122s.
@@MM-qy1tl the only hybrid flower island I had ever been to was windflowers, and now they're not around anymore. I was just commenting for anyone else so they can try it for themselves, not to say he was wrong.

Not that this applies anymore since the update, but I got mum hybrid island and took all the purples and pinks and that's how i got green mums. So hybrid island purple mums must have been the special hybrid.
Just to add, the red, pink and orange rejects from the hybrid red rose pairings to get the blue rose can also give a blue, this is where my first blue came from! But don’t use rejects from the rejects!!
That's my big question No one. Ever seems to answer So you're saying that if I successfully make a hybrid pink with a purple and Red rose I have to use a brand new yellow start to plant next to the pink rose? Or can I use The fully grown rose starts that i've already have
I had a combo on mine that wasn't shown here. I had a black rose pop up so I put it next to a white rose then a red rose showed up. So is it just a regular red?

Are these the only ways? I just had a purple rose spawn on it's own, but it was next to 1 white rose and 2 red ones. And I had a purple tulip spawn, but it was next to 2 red, 1 white, 1 pink, and 1 yellow. There was 1 orange kind of far from it, but like?? What is the truth?! Lol
The truth is mentioned in the first 30 seconds of the video, there are over 10,000 combinations of flower breeding. This is not by any means the only ways, but simply the quickest way to get every hybrid if you start with seed bags.
I have extremely little space on my island to breed flowers, I should have done it earlier. I’m still going to try though. The blue roses are going to be so difficult because I only have the room for very small patches. Edit: just found out new flowers only have a 5% chance of spawning, this isn’t worth the effort imo. I may just get gold roses and stop at that

But how can you tell the difference between an hybrid and a clone. For example, I want to breed a special red pansy, so that requires a red and a blue. If a new red sprout pops up the next day, is it an hybrid of the two of them or is it a clone of the red pansy???
You would use a layout like independent pairs. I went over the best layouts to use in certain situation in this video: th-cam.com/video/5vSLzKgFIoA/w-d-xo.html But the flowers prioritise breeding over cloning. If a flower decides to produce an offspring and it's touching another flower of the same species, it will breed. If it's not touching another flower of the same species, it will clone instead.
I thought that gold roses came from wilted (stepped on) blacks. I've gotten zero gold's from my field of blacks after many days and got multiple gold's in one night after trying the wilted method. Have I been deceived or could it perhaps just be a combination of both?
I play the game in german and there are actually two types of orange Tulips, which I only noticed bc they have diffrent names. The orange tulip you get from breeding red+yellow are called Korallentulpe and if you then breed those together, you get orange tulips named "Flachlandtulpe". Can anyone tell me which ones to use for purple tulips? I still haven`t managed to get those. Thanks :)
so you can produce new follower colors from just 2 flowers or does it need to be 4(2 of each color?) i'm so confused i couldn't find any info on this. and on the time which was frustrating or maybe i'm not listening to videos :/
If I want for example purple tulip, can I use orange tulips which I got from breeding other orange tulips or can I only use the ones I got from breeding red and yellow ones?
For yellow hybrid mums you wanna combine a yellow seed bag mum with a red seed bag mum, then 2 of those hybrid yellow give you a 6%ish chance at green, and 25% for purple, but if you combine the purples you will get 25% chance green.
Flowers have a 5% chance to produce an offspring when watered. There is a "bad luck counter" that goes up by 1 every day the flower is watered and doesn't produce an offspring. This counter increases the chance to make an offspring on day 4 by 5% per day until on day 20, there's a 90% chance it will spawn a new flower. This can take a while, so if you can, invite people over to water for you since the "visitor bonus" is far superior.
Are followers important to the game Like I know u can get nook miles for planting and watering but is there something else or other nook miles u get for making more flowers
Im pretty sure this info is outdated on this video. I have a really good wiki guide thats been working and thats up to date, and it has different methods to get everything. I believe with either the 2.0 update or an update prior to that flowers had a massive overhaul iirc
May it's just me. But since it's been raining non-stop in my game, I was actually able to get the golden flower without using the golden can and I didn't bother watering since it was raining constantly.
Once you water a black rose with a golden can, it will eventually produce a golden rose in the future even if you never water it again with the golden can. Once a golden rose is produced it needs to be watered with the golden can again.
As long as you have watered them once with the golden can, they will produce a golden rose eventually in the future. Once a black rose has produced a golden rose it needs to be watered again with the golden can once.
You talk in the beginning about the misinformation in the gardening community that went around during the beginning but I also feel like you are spreading some yourself. While none of the information here is technically wrong you fail to mention genotype when talking about which colors to cross. All you say is "hybrid" and while you do mention different genotypes during the cosmos you fail to go over them more in depth which is something I would have liked. I feel like the genetics behind these flowers is an important concept for people breeding flowers to understand. I also would have liked if you had mentioned other ways to get harder hybrids like the black cosmos I mentioned before. For example I am breeding windflowers right now and I understand that if breed a blue (from 2 white seeds) with a red seed you get a hybrid red(101) that when bred with itself produced purples 1/16 of the time, but also produces a certain hybrid blue(102) that can be found on mystery islands which gives you a higher chance at producing purple when breeding those blue together. But also during this process there are 2 hybrid blues(102) and (002) that can be encountered and only (102) can produce blue. Which is a similar situation to the purple mums situation where genotype was not discussed and thus a lot of guides were inaccurate. While I have these criticisms I really did enjoy the video and feel that this is one of the truly most accurate videos out there on flower breeding.
Thanks for your comment. This video was aimed towards people who are struggling to get certain colours and offers the most simple method to each colour from seed. If I were to delve deeper into how the genetics work and go over lots of different combinations then it would have started to become more complicated and extended the video unnecessarily.
@@amberhinson6896 I think the point he was making is that flowers made from seeds versus flowers made from breeding (use red pansies as example) will have different results when trying to make new flowers grow.
His 4 step method video that he posted worked for me in under two weeks. Just use A LOT more seeds than he used and get the 5 visitors bonus every day (I used reddit because no one I know irl plays :/) Side note: my “crappy” hybrid reds that only have a 1.56% chance at blue made one on their first and third days of cross breeding, and around a week later they made another. Also save the black roses to make gold ones, because the blacks produced by the reds also have a small chance at making a blue.
Officially bred all the flowers using these methods!!! Tip to those beginning to breed roses: I’d recommend starting out with efforts to breed blue because you’ll end up getting every color of the rainbow in the process. (Other than gold which you’ll have to breed on the side using a gold watering can on black roses you’ve created, of course). TYSM for your awesome videos!

I just got my first blue rose the other day but I did it different. I took the purple roses from breeding 2 whites and the orange rose from breeding the yellow and red and crossbred those for hybrid reds and crossbred those for blue
they've been systematically nerfing things to make it harder to "finish" the game quickly. they have 3 years of updates planned so they want to keep people playing that long. hybrid island flowers produced rarer hybrids much more quickly, and i guess people were racking up so many nook miles that they were hitting those islands and breeding those flowers way too quickly for nintendo's liking.
dietotaku - It is one more contributing reason why “New Horizons,” though visually superior, is inferior in quality to “New Leaf.” What you have described should encourage people to put down the game for some time and then come back to it later. Much later.
i'm missing those plus black cosmos. i can't have visitors water because i don't have the nintendo subscription and my trial ran out (people weren't great about watering when i asked anyway).
I've got a golden watering can and maybe it's that I've watered the black roses on a previous day (not sure why that would set off a flag though) but I've found that rain is now able to produce gold roses. Pretty weird
This may sound weird but a gold rose did show up after a rain. I've got several clusters of black roses here and there, I only water some with the golden watering can but leave a few others alone, but a gold rose appears in one of the unoccupied clusters after a rain. A 1% chance spoof perhaps?
Once you water a black rose with the golden can it will permanently be flagged and will eventually produce a golden rose, even if it is months later. Once a golden rose is produced the flag goes away and the black rose needs to be watered again with the golden can in order to produce another golden rose.

the amazing thing in acnh's flower breeding is, that they use the REAL mandelian rules in biology and genes. this is amazing! so much detail!

Huh, I've gotten my "hynrid red roses" from crossing purple with orange roses and from there the blue ones. Gotta try the other method as well!

The truth is mentioned in the first 30 seconds of the video, there are over 10,000 combinations of flower breeding. This is not by any means the only ways, but simply the quickest way to get every hybrid if you start with seed bags.
I saw some data some flower can give you a rare or uncommen flower for that flower to give that color

I have extremely little space on my island to breed flowers, I should have done it earlier. I’m still going to try though. The blue roses are going to be so difficult because I only have the room for very small patches. Edit: just found out new flowers only have a 5% chance of spawning, this isn’t worth the effort imo. I may just get gold roses and stop at that
villevn has a great video on getting the special hybrid red rose (1-2-2-0 genotype) that has a 25% chance of producing blue roses, but yeah you need alot of space and the visitor watering side is annoying xD purple tulips and purple windflowers were much easier to get and took less space and time than the blue rose complexity xD good luck

But the flowers prioritise breeding over cloning. If a flower decides to produce an offspring and it's touching another flower of the same species, it will breed. If it's not touching another flower of the same species, it will clone instead.
Companion guide says that two blue windflowers make a purple one. One blue and pink also makes one. I am confused

I thought that gold roses came from wilted (stepped on) blacks. I've gotten zero gold's from my field of blacks after many days and got multiple gold's in one night after trying the wilted method. Have I been deceived or could it perhaps just be a combination of both?
What do you mean by percents? A 100% chance a combination will make a flower on a given day or a 100% chance it will ever make a hybrid flower?

I play the game in german and there are actually two types of orange Tulips, which I only noticed bc they have diffrent names. The orange tulip you get from breeding red+yellow are called Korallentulpe and if you then breed those together, you get orange tulips named "Flachlandtulpe". Can anyone tell me which ones to use for purple tulips? I still haven`t managed to get those. Thanks :)
The different names only refer to different stages of the same flower.

I've heard others say Blue hyacinths from islands have good chance for purple. There IS a blue from 2 hybrid orange. Would those work?

Recommended you only use ones grown from seed bags because you won't be able to know if the ones on your island are pure or hybrid versions.

For yellow hybrid mums you wanna combine a yellow seed bag mum with a red seed bag mum, then 2 of those hybrid yellow give you a 6%ish chance at green, and 25% for purple, but if you combine the purples you will get 25% chance green.

What does 25% mean? Like, 1 out of every 4 days it has a chance of hybridizing or propitiation?
As mentioned at 1:20 , the percentage shown is the chance that when an offspring is produced it will be that colour :)
How does one know when an offspring will appear? Is it completely random?
Flowers have a 5% chance to produce an offspring when watered. There is a "bad luck counter" that goes up by 1 every day the flower is watered and doesn't produce an offspring. This counter increases the chance to make an offspring on day 4 by 5% per day until on day 20, there's a 90% chance it will spawn a new flower. This can take a while, so if you can, invite people over to water for you since the "visitor bonus" is far superior.

Im pretty sure this info is outdated on this video. I have a really good wiki guide thats been working and thats up to date, and it has different methods to get everything. I believe with either the 2.0 update or an update prior to that flowers had a massive overhaul iirc
May it's just me. But since it's been raining non-stop in my game, I was actually able to get the golden flower without using the golden can and I didn't bother watering since it was raining constantly.
Once you water a black rose with a golden can, it will eventually produce a golden rose in the future even if you never water it again with the golden can. Once a golden rose is produced it needs to be watered with the golden can again.
Pretty sure you don't need a gold watering can for gold roses. I keep getting those from black roses on days after it rains.

You talk in the beginning about the misinformation in the gardening community that went around during the beginning but I also feel like you are spreading some yourself. While none of the information here is technically wrong you fail to mention genotype when talking about which colors to cross. All you say is "hybrid" and while you do mention different genotypes during the cosmos you fail to go over them more in depth which is something I would have liked. I feel like the genetics behind these flowers is an important concept for people breeding flowers to understand.
I also would have liked if you had mentioned other ways to get harder hybrids like the black cosmos I mentioned before. For example I am breeding windflowers right now and I understand that if breed a blue (from 2 white seeds) with a red seed you get a hybrid red(101) that when bred with itself produced purples 1/16 of the time, but also produces a certain hybrid blue(102) that can be found on mystery islands which gives you a higher chance at producing purple when breeding those blue together. But also during this process there are 2 hybrid blues(102) and (002) that can be encountered and only (102) can produce blue. Which is a similar situation to the purple mums situation where genotype was not discussed and thus a lot of guides were inaccurate.
While I have these criticisms I really did enjoy the video and feel that this is one of the truly most accurate videos out there on flower breeding.
Thanks for your comment. This video was aimed towards people who are struggling to get certain colours and offers the most simple method to each colour from seed. If I were to delve deeper into how the genetics work and go over lots of different combinations then it would have started to become more complicated and extended the video unnecessarily.

Same, I've got 25 hybrid reds but still no blue :(
His 4 step method video that he posted worked for me in under two weeks. Just use A LOT more seeds than he used and get the 5 visitors bonus every day (I used reddit because no one I know irl plays :/)
Side note: my “crappy” hybrid reds that only have a 1.56% chance at blue made one on their first and third days of cross breeding, and around a week later they made another. Also save the black roses to make gold ones, because the blacks produced by the reds also have a small chance at making a blue.

Officially bred all the flowers using these methods!!! Tip to those beginning to breed roses: I’d recommend starting out with efforts to breed blue because you’ll end up getting every color of the rainbow in the process. (Other than gold which you’ll have to breed on the side using a gold watering can on black roses you’ve created, of course). TYSM for your awesome videos!

Ah... the failure I am, has now realized that I've been trying to breed two flowers to get *nothing.*
I just got my first blue rose the other day but I did it different. I took the purple roses from breeding 2 whites and the orange rose from breeding the yellow and red and crossbred those for hybrid reds and crossbred those for blue

they've been systematically nerfing things to make it harder to "finish" the game quickly. they have 3 years of updates planned so they want to keep people playing that long. hybrid island flowers produced rarer hybrids much more quickly, and i guess people were racking up so many nook miles that they were hitting those islands and breeding those flowers way too quickly for nintendo's liking.

I've got a golden watering can and maybe it's that I've watered the black roses on a previous day (not sure why that would set off a flag though) but I've found that rain is now able to produce gold roses. Pretty weird
No, rain does not have the ability to make black rose produce a gold rose. The only way you can get a gold rose is by watering them with a GWC.
This may sound weird but a gold rose did show up after a rain. I've got several clusters of black roses here and there, I only water some with the golden watering can but leave a few others alone, but a gold rose appears in one of the unoccupied clusters after a rain. A 1% chance spoof perhaps?
Once you water a black rose with the golden can it will permanently be flagged and will eventually produce a golden rose, even if it is months later. Once a golden rose is produced the flag goes away and the black rose needs to be watered again with the golden can in order to produce another golden rose.
