I just purchased a Golen 4.6 stroker for my 03 Tj. It was a bit more expensive then other options out there but their reputation, quality of build and customer service is well worth the extra cost. Plus the motor is already broke in, oil changed and everything retorqued as well as dyno tested with the video of your motor and dyno sent to you. My motor put out 383 foot pounds of torque and 278 hp. Not to shabby for a drop in motor.

Thanks for the video. I’ve been considering buying one of their engines for my YJ, but decided on rebuilding the engine in it as a family project in the garage. Luckily my dad has built many engines, and I’m skilled mechanically. Now that you posted this, I’m glad I decided to go that route. They also went up about $1000 in a year, like everything else has.

So many issues between the ax5 to ax15 even though it was believed that the mounts etc were identical..(they're not...and I had to fabricate and weld the mounting bracket to fit the AX-15...I purchased the crate motor from Chad cost almost $11,000.00 just for the motor,4.0 with a 4.2 crank, Clifford intake, Holley Sniper EFI 4 barrel carb

I bought this motor, had all of these issues, 10,000mi in, rear main was pouring oil, also steel freeze plugs. My main issue was, when i was doing the rear main, i look up, and my cam is missing a tooth off the gear, so the cam is junk at this point, so when i tore the motor down to rebuild it, they used a re-manned head, 3 of the valves were not sealing, they used over sized valves, since the guides were so sloppy, so i had bronze guides installed. They forgot to install the cam apring and pin, so the cam was walking because of it, causing it to break a tooth off. I took the motor to my machinist, and almost all of it was complete junk. Only crate motor ive ever bought, or ever will buy again. There workmanship was absolute garbage, everything leaked. For me, its done, is what it is. If this helps one person to not buy their garbage, im happy.

@acehuff8829 I can't say as far as your experience went, however, my motor had the timing cover and pan installed when purchased. Including the upper and lower rear main seal. And good luck with your motor, mine was a pile of shit. I ended up having to do a complete rebuild. I went with Russ Pottinger for the upper half of the rebuild. Since S&Just head was junk. Got another head, and did the LS valve conversion, ported and polished head, with a beefy comp cam etc etc. I'm curious who you will use on your next rebuild in 20,000mi

You know, funny enough...my S&J 4.7 also has a leaking rear main seal. Including break-in miles, I have ~1300 miles on it. Also, the only reason I knew the warranty was for 1 year is because when I was talking to them I said something like "Wow, 7 years on a stroker? That's a no-brainer" at which point they corrected me. I do agree though, everything on their page made it look like a 7 year came with the stroker. Interestingly enough, my plugs in the block are all brass, but the ones in the head were steel. Lots of other small issues for me as well. Nearly all sealing surfaces were painted; valve cover, timing cover, thermostat housing, oil pan, oil filter, etc. I also had to remove a pressed-in pin at the oil filter that im sure if for the 90 degree adapter some jeeps used...but mine did not. The motor runs great right now, but with so many tiny details overlooked, i'm afraid of what could potentially manifest in the coming miles.
I'm very interested to see how you edelbrock head experience goes!

I purchased on of their 4.7's based on reviews and some your previous videos. The sales rep I am dealing with was up front about the head and the warranty. He stated on all of their performance engines it's the 12-month warranty, and he cautioned me on the old head, and sold me the upgraded head (upcharge of $500). So, I'm still hopeful I will have a quality strong running engine to replace my blown 4.0. I sent them my roller rockers, that I was going to install on the old 4.0 and they are installing those at no additional charge to me. So I guess I will wait and see if I end up having some of the issues you are having here, but my old 4.0 has/had the same leaks in the same areas that you pointed out in these video. Keep up the good work, and great videos.

Jeez that sucks. You chose the best route replacing the head, I did this with a Clearwater head on my previous Jeep, a 2000 XJ. Owners with the 0331 head engines have to be aware that many engine builders are just taking in core engines, rebuilding them, and then sending them back out, they don't update the 0331 head to the TUPY version, or care that it's an issue. On one of the forums I frequent there are a few claims from Jasper where they don't even consider the 0331 head an "issue" which is surprising. Hopefully once you do all the updates it will be bulletproofed and trouble free.

They should have done their due diligence. This kind of thing is what separates companies that genially care, from companies that are reputable , but doesn't give individual customers their full attention. Yeah the product may be good .. But what does that matter without excellent customer service. For instance , i know its not engine related but " MetalCloak" contacted me and made certain that i ordered the correct parts and the parts i wanted. When you spend top dollar on a product , you deserve top notch service .

I would say be glad you bought from S&J, I have never heard of them but your engine issue pale in comparison to my Titan engine disaster. If I had researched more I would have found they are terrible stroker engines. I am sure they build good stock motors. They have been around a long time. I followed the 4.0 stroker page to late but found horror stories on top of horror stories about their lack of performance knowledge. That was 13 years ago. Hope by now they have it figured it out. FYI I pulled my new Titan stroker motor before 200 miles. 4 times. Got a run around. Then they pulled it 2 more times! The last time I pulled it, (350) miles total, I took it to a real engine performance guy in Gainesville. It was great afterwards.

Not that anyone cares but. I Have a 1987 4.2 now 4.6. It was a simple R&R mix and match parts from both. With all used factory parts. I bought a rust bucket 1991 4.0 FI running fine for 1k took everything off the rust bucket sold it so I was money in the bank. Cleaned and polished everything pistons, crank rods by hand. Mild porting to just clean up the rough castings and built the stroker for dam near free with new rings, bearings and seals 12 yr ago runs fine still. Zero machine shop bill, dingle ball honed the cylinders hand lapped the valves/seats . Factory 2bb carb, ignition system. It's not hard and can be very cheap to do, yes I am a 56 yr old mechanic but anyone who can read and has the tools can build one themself at home.
The only tool I had to buy was a bore gauge wanted one anyway. Has the same cam bearing, cam, lifters just put back in the same hole as they came from to match the wear on the cam and bore of the block.
It really is that simple to build one. All the old pistions , rods are sitting here so thinking of a low compression build and adding a turbo now over the winter. If anyone wants to see that build. Comment and I will film it,

No TUPY head! That is just straight up ridiculous from S&J! The 0331 no TUPY head is literally the worst head ever fitted to the 4.0.
A couple years ago I bought a remanufactured Long block from ATK. (Has a TUPY head). Not a stroker. Just a 4.0. Did not want worse mpg. Extra heat. Or have to run premium gas.
Within 1500km. Head was leaking oil in same place as yours. So I took the head off.
The crappiest head gasket I think is available for the 4.0 is what I found. Single layer. And ATK also stripped the front right header bolt.
So I installed a heavy duty head gasket kit. And new header bolts.
    40,000km later still running good.
But I would not recommend ATK at all.
Why cheap out on the head gasket!? Very frustrating.

No performance cam or timing set, no roller rockers, cast iron shit head thats prone to cracking… leaks!
Newcomer Racing engines are performance engines and they don’t leak from the head gasket, rear main seal and he certainly wouldn’t send you a head gasket and wish you the best.
It’s not a performance engine without a performance valve train, performance cylinder head and definitely not without a performance camshaft & timing set.
I believe they do not understand the meaning of performance. That’s a stock engine with a stroked bottom end … tell me it at least has forged pistons, rods and moly rings? Probably not, they probably put cast garbage in it… they’re making a killing and selling you guys a nothing burger.
