    I like this composer who has created contemporary accessible, pleasant and expressive music. And your interpretation is beautiful!

    A fine performance of a great piece. The rhythmic energy, the swing of the piece is jazzy, but essentially always Stravinsky.

      With respect, what about this piece “swings”?

      О Стравинском написано много, об Ebony Concerto не нашёл ничего.

      @@davidkapral I think it implies (or maybe attempts) swing more than swinging itself. It's the elusive "jazziness" of it.

(Translate from portuguese)

    You guys always have superb recordings. Excellent sound quality and fantastic camera angles. I'm still so bummed that you had to take down the performances of The Firebird and Petrushka.

    Classical composers have always appreciated jazz music. This is an example of a classical composer who appreciates. The only missing element is improvisation.

    • @miklosdavid7627

      There are some other elements in jazz which are significant: the composer(s) are part of the performing, they often adapt and rearrange pieces of music written by fellow musicians.
      Jazz players build mutual appreciation with other musicians in their formation and normally seek out new musicians to play with so as to enrich their musical experience.
      As for the listener, it is their duty and pleasure to search for the most relevant and worthwhile music for themselves both in classical music and jazz.

    Inimitably, inevitably Stravinsky. Almost as though he took L'Histoire du Soldat and fleshed it out for Woody Herman's jazz band

    Why use a classical guitar? Originally, an electric guitar was used. It doesn’t sound quite right, and probably isn’t what Stravinsky had in mind.

  • @charlesbarry971
    @charlesbarry971 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Although he wasn't a jazz musician, Stravinsky liked jazz this piece contained some jazz elements but it is not a jazz piece.
    Stravinsky , just like Bernstein employed some jazz elements in his compositions.

    It's a great piece but if the clarinetist wasn't standing in front of the orchestra I would never have guessed it was a clarinet concerto. Maybe there was a lot going on with the soloist that the camera didn't show but it didn't seem like the clarinet part was any bigger than several of the other instruments. If Woody Herman hoped this would give him a platform to show off his clarinet chops he must have been disappointed.
