The problem with the maginot line was the fact that it was meant to go through Belgium all the way to the sea but the Belgian leadership got scared and cancelled not wanting to provoke hitler, hence the lower defences in Belgium
@@Ratmothy oh yeah their command absolutely sucked, not sure which hq it was but at some point during the battle for France one of the major hq’s had 1 telephone for comms, that was it, so Belgium pulling out of the maginot was beyond bad for the French
@@Ratmothy Yes it was, but the German invasion of France is made on the will of Hitler to pass through the forest of the Ardennes that even the German commendemant thought impossible. So when they saw Germans completely high on meth who were not sleeping and advancing night and day it surprised them a little. When your second, third line is the opponent it becomes complicated logistical question. I imagine that we must also take into account the weariness of the French to be killed in combat, we must understand that the First World War was a butchery on our soil and how many other generations before that were sacrificed for some people interest who never do war in the frontline, since the Romans France was almost at war all the time even if not all them was a major conflict.
@@imperialistbrit128, not quite but pretty close...The Belgians weren't scared of provoking Hitler, they were scared of being sacrificed by the French. Because the Maginot extension...Was tp be along the *Border* between France & Belgium. Thus why the Belgians protested, not wanting another repeat of WW1 where most or all of their country would fall while the French & British hid within their Trench Lines and Fortifications as they bled the Attacking Germans. So they threatened to let the Germans go through their country without a fight, if the French were to finish the Maginot. One of the main points of the Maginot in the event of War, was to buy enough time for the French to mobilize into Total War footing. So the Germans being allowed a path through Belgium without any fighting was unacceptable, since it would severely cutdown on the amount of time France has to mobilize. Thus, killing dead in the water any hopes of an Extended Maginot. Ironic then, is the fact that the Belgians would end up being one of the quickest to fall of the Lowland countries to fall...Partially due to their outdated fortifications compared to the French, to add further irony.
the way you can feel that you hit an enemy in this game and squad is the best. in a world where games either give you a chain clink, white/red cross and in-your-face message telling you you killed an enemy like bf and cod; to you not having any idea that you hit an enemy with your shot like in arma, this system is perfect. the so so slight "whoosh, punch" sound that is easy to miss along with the equally easy to miss red mist/dust cloud that flies up from a downed enemy is just so damn satisfying. minor thing but for HISTORICAL ACCURACY the char b1 was not the main French tank it was a experimental heavy tank the "main" French tank would be something like the r35
Just to add more context about French efforts in the Second World War, General Charles de Gaulle, who led the Free French forces was one of the few Competent Leaders leading the French Military. Not to mention that the French Resistance caused a lot of trouble for the German Occupiers. After the liberation of France, there were serious reprisals happening towards Nazi Collaborators, especially towards French women who slept with the Nazis. The liberated didn't show any remorse whatsoever.
@@fourtwenty6460 that wont mean very much if your short 37mm gun cant be used for "infantry support" against enemy tanks sense the infantry would be dead by the time you would get there your tank is so slow and cumbersome
To be fair... The majority of German tanks at the time were outdated Panzer Is and IIs, quite a substantial amount of captured Czech tanks (which is the most plentiful tank that can at least stand up to the majority of French tanks), and a few Panzer III and IVs Also wait... Didn't people use the same damn argument to German tanks as well? Specifically the Panther and Tigers
@@RandomFurry07 how i see the panzer 1's and 2's is that they were* ahead of their time when it came to fighting infantry but the cannon was too small for tank to tank combat with as much being shown in the Spanish civil war the panzer 2 being obviously the better tank in this situation as they can effectively do the same thing as the panzer 1 but better in every way as 20mm ap rounds are nothing to snease at and could still be used against softer target's like armored car's and most British tanks at that period of the war (pre valentine mk3) for the latter yes there shouldn't be any double standards when evaluating how good a tank is
How many players does Post Scriptum (Squad 44) harbor in general? Thinking about getting it. Would you say it plays more like Red Orchestra 2/ Rising Storm 2 or HLL?
Yup exactly there was a few here and there! That’s what’s so fun about milsim games, it isn’t like more casual games where you run and gun down everyone. It’s that feeling of spotting a an enemy dashing in a forest 100m away that makes encounters so fun (and realistic) Of course this genre isn’t for everyone, if you prefer to see enemies every ten seconds sadly milsim games may be too slow paced :/
See as a mere console pleb we get HLL and whilst that is very fun to play I wish we go the chance to also have Squad and Squad 44. Although I doubt they'll come issue free 😂
Yea! I'm also used to calling it PS, but since it's now officially renamed Squad 44, I figured I might as well use the new name so that new players can find it. Thank ya for the support!
8:11 Using white phosphorous as a weapon is not a war crime when used against military personnel or instillations. It IS a war crime if it is used against civilians.
Love the content bruv! I must say though that in real life this would never have happened lol. I only saw one German tank and it was at the very beginning. In real life the Germans hit everyone hard with everything they had such as numerous tanks, infantry, artillery, and even the Luftwaffe. The french with their ww1 era weapons & technology never even stood a chance against the might of the German blitz lol go check out the invasion of Denmark scene from the movie in "April 9th" (2015) and it will give you a great example of what it was like for these countries/men (usually "kids" in their 20's) equipped with old ww1 era weapons and how they just truly never stood a chance against the Germans. In that movie they totally just overwhelm the outnumbered Danish defenders within like 30min🤣🤣They took over Denmark in about 4 & 1/2 hours IRL. They would have easily moved onto the UK if the industrial might of the Americans didn't join in later in the war. No one really understands how strong the German blitzkreig really was unless you were there and felt the stress of being surrounded by foreigners that are all trained very well, speak different languages, & filled with cocaine. I truly couldn't even imagine what it would be or feel like if hundreds of soldiers fueled by crack and tanks were all storming my hometown🤣🤣
Thank you! And yes thankfully this was a video game and I did not have to suffer the real life consequences when I was torn limb to limb from a tank shell haha
The "surrender" of france near the beginning of wwii was heavily influenced by vichy france which was basically a political group that was waiting for the NAZIs to arrive, their weak resistance when their own country was attacked got them stereotyoed as cowards who will immediately surrender but french partisans/resiatnce were active the entire war basically
There is not really any excuse for the French, the siege of Budapest alone was longer than all the French resistance. French leadership simple messed up. Generally the Western front does not even come close to the Eastern front in terms of suffering and casualties and size, all other claims are lie.
The breakthrough at Sedan with the speed of execution cut the Allied army in two, to the north as far as Dunkirk, and to the south as far as Grenoble. Paris could not have been defended properly in any case, because the bulk of the forces were blocked, and could not have joined the defense of the city. And in 1940, the soldiers gave everything despite the misconceptions, but were just betrayed or led by old soldiers and bureaucrats. Or they did not have the opportunity (or the time and the space) to retreat in an orderly manner for a potential counter attack, like the British across the Channel, or the Soviets over several thousand kilometers, before regrouping in Moscow and Stalingrad. In France, there is a saying that the last Frenchmen died at Verdun. It's symbolic of course, it includes the entire conflict (and even WW2) with 15% of the population who were victims out of 39 Million Inhabitants). They already gave their all during WW1, compared to Britain or US. Russia suffered more losses, but out of 150 million inhabitants, which makes the losses ratio lower than that of France yet. Germany should not have been given the opportunity to recover during the interwar period in any case. It was the only European power that was still potentially the most homogeneous, and whose weight still threatened to overthrow the entire continent, as France did during Louis XIV or Napoleon I 's times.
@@tibsky1396 Honestly I agree besides 2 points: 1: German losses regarding ratio, or even Austro-Hungarian were pretty close to French, Serbian even massively huger. I would not say this was a major reason why France underperformed in ww2, its basically cause bad leadership and bad strategy (eg total mismanagement of the tanks which were btw better than early German ones). 2: You say Germany should have not given the opportunity to recover, basically this mostly French hubris and the harsh peace treaties lead to ww2, even Churchill told its just an armistice for 20 years. There is peace in Europe cause after ww2 Germany kind of got handled as an ally and incorporated to an alliance much like US did with Japan. WW2 ending was not about humiliation and punishment, unlike ww1. So I would say, anything harsher just would make a war even more sure. Louis XIV politics btw was a massive failure, the man died as a hated man, who emptied the treasury. Tho sure, he gained massive colonies, he was nowhere near to do a Napoleon like dominance over Europe, I would say French hegemony in Europe did better at times. Not to mention the role of the Ottomans. The comment anyway does not aim against France, but denying that France did fuck up in ww2, and finding excuses. I mean it can be done, but honestly which country does not have even 1 time it fucked up? Even the US has Vietnam.
@@Esti_Kornél 1). Yes, but for 65 million inhabitants on the German side, and if we count the annexation of Austria or the German-speaking states, plus the general feeling of revenge (especially from the Nazi party), they were able to recover more quickly. I agree that the French leadership was strongly divided politically during the interwar period, between the Left and the Right. The first being more peaceful and complacent (or amorphous) with the treaty, and the second more aggressive with the treaty. And in the 1930s, it was mainly the Left that led France.
@@Esti_Kornél 2). It was mainly Marshal Foch who said that "It is a 20-year armistice". Because he knew that these inter-allied divergences led to the conclusion of an incoherent Treaty of Versailles. And it is rather the opposite, it is precisely because the allies have been too complacent over the years that Germany has been able to recover, because it remains united, centralized and populated by 65 million inhabitants. They are finally jubilant not to have been destroyed, because what does not destroy strengthens. In particular by reassessing the German debt, that the American Congress disavowed its president by refusing membership in the League of Nations (ancestor of the UN), which thus aborted the defensive alliance promised by Wilson to Clemenceau. To promote trade, the Americans then multiply the plans to reduce and reschedule the German debt... with the kind indulgence of the President of the Council Aristide Briand and all the French "pacifists". With the influx of American capital, the German economy actually recovers, but becomes hyper-dependent on its exports to the United States. At the same time, the French occupation of the left bank of the Rhine - although provided for by the treaty - is castigated by the Anglo-Saxon media, and part of the French press. In 1929, the German economy - closely linked to that of the Americans - collapses, the Wall Street stock market crash pushes the Germans into a serious crisis: a crisis on which the Nazi Party will prosper to reach power in 1933. Faced with Western democracies sclerotic by fifteen years of pacifism, the Nazis re-begin massive rearmament. Germany spends - for its rearmament alone - seven times the amount demanded by France during the Treaty. They thus take advantage of this to annex territories populated by "Germans" - willingly or by force. "If there is reason to be pessimistic for Europe after the treaty, it is from another point of view than the British economist Mr. Keynes. Indeed, the economic chaos is profound. But the political chaos is even more so. Next to a melee of nationalities, Germany remains, the only homogeneous one, and whose weight risks tipping the entire continent. All the considerations of economists will not change anything in the effects of this essential imbalance. As for German militarism, it is intact, and all that will be missing is the opportunity and the man who will set it in motion" _ Jacques Bainville, Historian - 1920
@@Esti_Kornél 3). No matter the outcome, what I meant was that at the time of Louis XIV, France was potentially the most modern military force. And especially in terms of population, there were almost 2/3 Europeans who were French at that time. It took several coalitions to confront them, as happened similarly with Germany between Bismarck's Prussia and the Third Reich. While the French population had stagnated in the meantime during the 19th century, and the industrial era reshaped the balance.

ngl ive been watching ur videos thinking you were super popular, suprised to find out how small you are.
I be a small rat :)
minor thing but for HISTORICAL ACCURACY the char b1 was not the main French tank it was a experimental heavy tank the "main" French tank would be something like the r35
its just missing the destructive map feature from the old battlefield games.
Good video
Why thank you :)

I appreciate it :)
I love how the Sedan area was the beginning of the end for the french 2 times in 70 years 😂

For sure!! Still traveling right now but I eventually plan on making a discord where I let people know what match I'm in and when I am in
Ngl, the thumbnail kinda gives me Verdun vibes.
taking out the camera omg 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Just to add more context about French efforts in the Second World War, General Charles de Gaulle, who led the Free French forces was one of the few Competent Leaders leading the French Military.
Not to mention that the French Resistance caused a lot of trouble for the German Occupiers.
After the liberation of France, there were serious reprisals happening towards Nazi Collaborators, especially towards French women who slept with the Nazis. The liberated didn't show any remorse whatsoever.

every time someone says that french tanks were better then German ones remember to tell them that armor dos not equal good tank

@@fourtwenty6460 that wont mean very much if your short 37mm gun cant be used for "infantry support" against enemy tanks sense the infantry would be dead by the time you would get there your tank is so slow and cumbersome
To be fair...
The majority of German tanks at the time were outdated Panzer Is and IIs, quite a substantial amount of captured Czech tanks (which is the most plentiful tank that can at least stand up to the majority of French tanks), and a few Panzer III and IVs
Also wait... Didn't people use the same damn argument to German tanks as well? Specifically the Panther and Tigers
@@RandomFurry07 how i see the panzer 1's and 2's is that they were* ahead of their time when it came to fighting infantry but the cannon was too small for tank to tank combat with as much being shown in the Spanish civil war the panzer 2 being obviously the better tank in this situation as they can effectively do the same thing as the panzer 1 but better in every way as 20mm ap rounds are nothing to snease at and could still be used against softer target's like armored car's and most British tanks at that period of the war (pre valentine mk3)
for the latter yes
there shouldn't be any double standards when evaluating how good a tank is
How many players does Post Scriptum (Squad 44) harbor in general? Thinking about getting it. Would you say it plays more like Red Orchestra 2/ Rising Storm 2 or HLL?
100 players and definitely more like Red Orchestra 2/Rising storm, the community is more tactical than HLL.
20k views but only 2k subs is a war crime🙄
The only enemy I saw was the one you stabbed and the ones you zoomed in on in edit.
Yup exactly there was a few here and there! That’s what’s so fun about milsim games, it isn’t like more casual games where you run and gun down everyone. It’s that feeling of spotting a an enemy dashing in a forest 100m away that makes encounters so fun (and realistic)
Of course this genre isn’t for everyone, if you prefer to see enemies every ten seconds sadly milsim games may be too slow paced :/
See as a mere console pleb we get HLL and whilst that is very fun to play I wish we go the chance to also have Squad and Squad 44. Although I doubt they'll come issue free 😂
Ahaha yea I get your pain. I have an Playstation but ngl I haven't touched it since getting a PC and access to games like Squad and Squad 44 😅
@Ratmothy yeah I want a PC but like I just don't have enough money

Yes!! The developers of Squad took over and they are reviving the game
Man you gotta try out Foxhole lol, new war is about to start on it and it's the perfect time to start playing.
I've heard about this game! It's the continuous wars game, right?
Ok, any confused, it's a gameplay from Post scriptum of French v German.👍 nc tho
Yea! I'm also used to calling it PS, but since it's now officially renamed Squad 44, I figured I might as well use the new name so that new players can find it. Thank ya for the support!

I believe they were Fallschirmjäger but they definitely did have those paratrooper helmets.

8:11 Using white phosphorous as a weapon is not a war crime when used against military personnel or instillations. It IS a war crime if it is used against civilians.
Wait so the WP I have stored in my basement CAN be used for something huh? Hehehehe
Thank you! And yes thankfully this was a video game and I did not have to suffer the real life consequences when I was torn limb to limb from a tank shell haha
am i the only one who misread german army as gremlin army
The "surrender" of france near the beginning of wwii was heavily influenced by vichy france which was basically a political group that was waiting for the NAZIs to arrive, their weak resistance when their own country was attacked got them stereotyoed as cowards who will immediately surrender but french partisans/resiatnce were active the entire war basically
the trees are speaking french
Indeeed they do
French are crazy strong in PS tho.

@@tibsky1396 Honestly I agree besides 2 points:
1: German losses regarding ratio, or even Austro-Hungarian were pretty close to French, Serbian even massively huger.
As for German militarism, it is intact, and all that will be missing is the opportunity and the man who will set it in motion"
_ Jacques Bainville, Historian - 1920
@@Esti_Kornél 3). No matter the outcome, what I meant was that at the time of Louis XIV, France was potentially the most modern military force. And especially in terms of population, there were almost 2/3 Europeans who were French at that time. It took several coalitions to confront them, as happened similarly with Germany between Bismarck's Prussia and the Third Reich. While the French population had stagnated in the meantime during the 19th century, and the industrial era reshaped the balance.
