This band has contributed so much to my growing up days that this documentary to me is more valuable than the epic of Gilgamesh was to the sumerian. I thank the band and Earache, TH-cam and whoever invented the Internet, for collecting the footage, putting it together and offering it for my fruition. I feel richer for watching it and fuck me if I'm grateful to At the Gates for having produced their work. If god exists, he's got At the Gates on repeat since always.
With the endless beer drinking, and glourious parities aside, I am glad to see that these amazing guys maintained their friendships through the years with no animosity; that is a testament of their maturity and musicianship. Glad to see Alf on here- as said, he did contribute a lot in the early years. Metal on.
So glad they decided to stay together after all. At War with Reality and To Drink From the Night Itself are both fantastic albums. Not as good as Slaughter, but then again, only maybe 5 other albums in metal history are. I have to see them live before I die.
This is great. 3am here in Mexico my eyes hurt from reading the subtitles hahaha Makes me want to pick up the guitar again \m/ Its been years. Thanks for sharing
I was at their second ”last” show back in 1996... (did not know they would quit after) One of the best shows I have ever been to! I only heard the ”new” album (”Slaughter”) for like a week and I did not really know what to expect. But I remember I thought it was impossible to play the songs as tight as on the album live... I was totaly wrong! 😎
Just like Tomas I borrowed a tape of "Kill Em All" from a friend and it was the heaviest stuff I heard at the time. Tape trading made a lot of metalheads. Me included :)
I saw At the Gates live at Tons of Rock 2023. You guys made an absolute blast of a show although the rain was pouring down heavily. I Greatly appreciate your music and creativity
My favorite concert of all time still to this day was Dissection, At The Gates and Morbid Angel was the headliner, at the Nile theater in Mesa Arizona about 30 years ago. All 3 bands brought their A game, it was epic and historical in my opinion. I have seen a lot of concerts over the years and lots of great bands but nothing compares to that night. And just as a funny story, one time about 20 some odd years ago, while playing either halo or call of duty on xbox live, I was playing with a bunch of guys who were in Sweden, me being the stupid american I am, I thought death metal would be huge there and looking for something new I asked if they knew of any good black/death metal bands. Maybe something I hadnt heard of? But they all just got really mad and told me they didnt listen to that shit, and that metal music is for losers and then kicked me out of the lobby in between games. Simply cuz I like death metal. Not at all the response I was expecting, but still hilarious to this day
2:50 "Yes, it is, no more At The Gates"... 2021 Album 3 after "no more At The Gates".. :P Its good that they dont break up, the new albums are super strong and so much At The Gates. Cant wait for "The Nightmare of Being"!
I have also seen the Haunted live...and thought it was really kinda milk toast and lame? JMO Sleepy and weak compared to the energy At The Gates was putting out? JMO That is weird too me and sad, cuz what I had heard way back then was that the band members could no longer get along or work out their differences so they ended it? Thats a real bummer, At The Gates was truly something remarkable, groundbreaking, genuine, original, melodic, with neck breaking headbanging riffs, truly one of a kind. To destroy that for the haunting breaks my heart after all these years. Sad face :^(
Dude if you dig it, you should really listen to some Bjork. Seriously, so much shit of the Vespertine, Medulla and Drawing Restraint 9 albums has that vibe. Look at songs like Pagan Poetry and Desired Constellation. Also worth mentioning is the soundtrack Nocturno did for Darkthrones "The Misanthrope" film. It's fucking awesome.

you could ust say the name of the instrumental, i dont know if that idea had crossed your amazing mind, youre so cool for knowing something that someone else doesnt know man!
28:53 The ingenious ways of a mad genius.
Alf Svensson truly was a one-of-a-kind madman, both as a distinct instrumentalist and impeccable composer.
Yes really, The Red was one of the best Death metal albums ever made and At the Gates declined after he left.
True. Devolved into arena thrash rock soon after his departure and never musically recovered.
@@seventybelow139 Arena thrash rock lmao. Comedy gold. Such nonsense.
@@jonsmith7122 He;s right you know
This is how band documentaries should be made.

RED IN THE SKY... the best album.
Very underrated band, they never should have broken up. Good to see they're back together with new albums out
Studio Fredman needs a documentary of it's own! Such a legendary place.

Grymt skön dokumentär 🖤

A truly masterpiece. Im proud to be at the age of being a part of the death metal age in sweden. At The Gates will always be close to my heart.
kyllä tuo on naukkarinen paras death metal levy mitä on tehty.
"It will always be 1996 regarding At The Gates". My favorite quote.
Great documentary. So much nostalgia...

Perfect band, perfect musicians, perfect humans, perfect documentary.
btw, where is the music come from at 2:57 ?
I have been listening to At The Gates since mid 90s. Nothing beats Gardens of Grief in my opinion.
Thank you! Gem!
Do you have problems If I made Spanish subtitules for this?
I wanted it in Portuguese too!!!
Finally get to see them this november.
After this documentary they realized that they had more in them to give. Cheers to my Swedish neighbors, SKÅL!
44:50 She thought it was a Walkman :D
Man saw them with dissection and morbid angel in Huntington wv they were really cool hung with them at davidsons

Holy crap, I was at that Thirsty Whale show!
What's the harp song at 00:30:30?!
"We will never play live again, and we will not record any new music."
Hah!
is awesome history ... 🤘
Anyone know the name of the song in the background at the 30 minute mark when Tomas in on the bus ?
This album was a WTF moment, they make it and tour a little then break up and we are left like!?!?!? Was like they started a fire and left
All thanks to my friend Kurt Hughes that I became such a big fan of At The Gates 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Death metals anvil. Except these guys actually made a real impact.
top 3 metal band along with Dark Tranquility in that list, after 18 years of listening to metal still trying to figure out who is top 1, lol
1:03:14 SO NICE that song what is it
2:54 ***
its not a ATG song, it a song anders wrote for a horror movie he wanted to make

Alf probably left more so because it was the shittiest way to exist. Tattooing was more of a sure thing with less hassle
the name of the instrumental that sound during all the documentary.
