    I have watched so many of these set up vids trying to figure out what to do to set up and fly my first plane. This is the first vid that has left me with a sense of hope that I may be able to make more then a first and last flight all in the same moment. Everyone wish my dart sub250 good luck. Thank you Mr. Newton. 62 years old and ready for my new adventure.

    Prob the best money spent on a stabiliser. RECOMMEND. Went from crashing every 5 mins to not crashing at all. Can't learn to fly if you break something every 5 mins. Get a bit loose just flick the switch and go again. Brilliant

    Oh boy you're braver than me. Everything works with my kopilot but I haven't done fence mode yet and I haven't turned off my radio. It has saved my butt so many times. I just did my first rolls today with no assist. And loops. I lose video when I'm upside down.

    Hi Andrew,
    Great videos on the Kopilot. I have one successful model using it. By accident I learned my “lowly” Orange R615X receiver’s default Failsafe setting is the “Preset” mode..! Thus, when setting up the Rx failsafe to RTH mode, the low cost 615X handles the return to home perfectly. Cheers....

    • @AndrewNewton

      Well done. Yes preset is the only option for a lot of receivers

    I'm using Radix Brain Flight Controller and Black Sheep GPS if I knew this was out I would have bought it before my flight controller,

    But now tempted to buy this on another Wing build.

  • @jj604utube
    @jj604utube 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Andrew, very nice review indeed. Couple of points that are worth noting. 1) As with most stabs of this kind you do not need to use a Y lead on the ailerons. You can use (say) channel 5 or 6 direct from the receiver for the second aileron. The KoPilot will only stabilise one aileron but this is perfectly adequate for most models. I have used it with other stabs which do not have internal mixing for dual ailerons. It also works with my Kopilot. 2) I'm sure the 70ft RTH height is not AGL but Above launch point height. There is no way the Kopilot can allow for changes in ground level without a radio altimeter or internal terrain map so you might run into trouble if you expect it to work in hilly terrain. John

I eventually discovered the switch I chose for the modes was reversed and I'd been in return to home since I started. PWM info is WRONG - CH1 AIL is the white cable on the 3 pin connector and the signal cables for CH2-5 are on the other connector and you need to be run AETRM

    • @theoztreecrasher2647
      @theoztreecrasher2647 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry mate, I don't know what you have on your Tx/Rx pair but, for a standard AETR system (Futaba, Flysky) You plug the 4-pin PWM connector into the Rx signal outputs 1 to 4 (with the white wire into no1 - Aileron) and the 3-pin connector into channel 5 signal/power/ground group. Tested with at least 6 units between our group.

    I have several of these great little FC's and on reading the accompanying leaflet it seems to be saying, if you don't plug in the GPS, you get altitude hold instead of RTH. I haven't tried it yet but if you're just flying locally, it could be useful to know.

      Yes I must check that, thanks for the reminder John

    • @johnsheehy6172
      @johnsheehy6172 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @johnsheehy6172

      On second thoughts, home might be where the GPS was last switched on.

    • @theoztreecrasher2647
      @theoztreecrasher2647 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@johnsheehy6172 I don't know but it's probable that the GPS unit will treat the point at which it acquires more than 6 satellites as the Home Point as long as it has Vcc and Ground continuously applied to it. The Kopilot unit will operate on that Home Point when it is receiving the information via the GPS Tx/Rx connections. So your set-up just might work by using ch6-AUX to operate an RC switch to connect or break the Tx? line. You would need to set the receiver to failsafe ch6 to re-connect when signal is lost.

    Dear Andrew, this FC Is cool. This little auto pilot seem a rebrand of the sn Sparrow with an external board for gain/rth/radius fence potentiometer. But 10€ more expensive. the funny thing is i fly it on my ranger G2. The only feature i nées to try to confirm the cloning is the autolaunch in RTH mode. I must warn you about the throttle handling on windy day. The auto pilot doesn't compute airspeed from gps speed ans throttle like ardupilot, i loose a lot of altitude in RTH on windy day.

    Hi! Great video.
    Questions:
    1. My wing flies well in normal mode. It flies also well in stab mode but I have almost no control in this mode. The travel of Ail and Ele is much less in this mode, almost nothing. Why? Using a frsky taranis q7.
    2. For the throttle to work on my controller I have to inverse it (weight -100 on Taranis).
    3. I cannot calibrate the plane (sticks inside and down). The green leds won't flash after 5 seconds.
    Thanks.

    • @AndrewNewton
      @AndrewNewton  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Martin. I have a video showing all the setup and problems coming soon.
      1. That is the way Kopilot works and I agree there is not enough control in stabilise mode. Need to increase the throws mechanically by changing which hole the pushrods connect to, then reducing the weights just for manual mode switch position.
      2. That is weird. Have you inverted Ch3 in the Outputs page?
      3. To use the stick command method of level calibration you must have 100 weight on Ch1 Ail, Ch2 Ele, Ch3 Thr and Ch4 Rud and no throttle cut activated. Kopilot does the level cal automatically when you plug the battery in so maybe dont bother with the stick command method. Must be in Stabilise mode (not RTH)

      @quiquemsa 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Andrew, I am 100% stabilized, I still do not have a good response in stabilized, when I have lower gains I have more aileron travel and it is more agile worse it does not stabilize well, it jumps, I cannot find the balance between well stabilized and more aileron control and depth.
      perhaps ZOHD should consider the possibility of better adjusting this problem.

    Hi Andrew. I’m new to RC but built a Multiplex Heron with a FrSky x18. I like the idea of this RTH function. If I plug the servos into the Kopilot then does that mean I loose all the mixing and deflections I took ages to setup when the servos were plugged directly into the receiver?

    • @AndrewNewton
      @AndrewNewton  ปีที่แล้ว

      Correct. No mixing or trims if using a flight control board. The radio trims would only work in Manual mode. Best to set throws and trims mechanically

    • @timgood6902
      @timgood6902 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AndrewNewton So if I just want to use it for RTH then I’d fly manual 99% of the time and just flick the switch to engage RTH, at which point the Kopilot kicks in and disregards all my settings.
      If that’s the case then when selecting manual mode, does the transmitter flick to different model on the transmitter or if it how can you setup manually mode like I have it now, without the KoPilot?
      I’m struggling to see why people would want to get rid of all the mixing and trims and fly like that all the time. Doesn’t that defeat much of the enjoyment of RC flying.
