  • TK's has found a neglected, white handled Victorinox Classic SD and experiments with a thorough cleanup. The handles are dingy and scratched, the scissors stick closed, and the action is gritty. Watch and find out how he tackles this little project.

    I like this type of video. I’ve had a lot of fun cleaning up old knives I’ve picked up over the years.

    I did a little experimenting on a Classic SD last year. I have like a dozen of them laying around… 🙄😂 I decided one day to do a little clean up on one I had that was in pretty rough shape. I used 1000, 2000,5000 grit wet/dry sandpaper and cleaned them up like I usually do. This one in particular had some pretty deep scratches in the scales. I went a little too deep and the shield actually came off. I took quite a bit of material off of it before the shield came off. So you can go somewhat deep to remove scratches! Now I know approximately how far I can go. It looks almost new. I’m gonna get some new scales for it and it will pretty much be brand new. It will go into the rotation of my Victorinox SAK’s. Keep up the great videos! Thanks👍

    Nice clean up job! I found a victorinox executive with black covers and a U.S.A. made Camillus 91 pattern congress at a flea market a couple weeks ago. I was able to clean them and get them back into working order. I was surprised when I found out the tang stamp on the Camillus was dated between 1970-1980.

      Always fun to find a knife to be older than what you expected. I still have plenty to do to get better at this. So my journey is not complete. Thanks. BTW I polshed the covers even more after the video and they just keep looking better. Be well, Steve.

    Nice.
    The SD tweezers and toothpicks are 'small' and the regular 91mm knife tweezers and toothpick are 'large'. A pack of 6 small tweezers is $8, 6 small toothpicks are $5.50, the large are $10 and $6 for six each large tweezers and toothpicks.

    • @BFVgnr
      @BFVgnr ปีที่แล้ว

      Smoky Mtn Knife Works sells them individually, and in different colors, but they charge roughly 1/2 of what the pack of six regular colors cost.

    Nice work, but try a plastic specific polish maybe. It might give better results. Also, just order of operations wise, or just for sake of doing you need to run it through the ultrasonic bath again.

    • @ThriftyKaniffy
      @ThriftyKaniffy  ปีที่แล้ว

      Flitz does say it is for plastics, while for metal as well. Yea I should give it another bath to get all the polish off. Thanks, Don.

    I think I may have mentioned it before but building cement is great as an abrasive, add a little water mix to a paste brilliant for cleaning blades so can't see why it wouldn't work on the covers. 😁
