They are both great for all around the tree. I love the RRP and Akimbo for pruning and removals. The only downfall is that the RRP is not the best on the spar. by the time you get to the spar its better to switch to the akimbo or to a rope wrench. Side loading is a big issue for both of them since they are both responsible for your life. However, the Akimbo is less prone to side loading during spar work. The downfall of the Akimbo is that it is tempera-MENTAL. Its almost bipolar because in the summer I can work fine on it during the morning but as the day becomes hotter it has a change in dynamic. Akimbo sucks for its volatile nature but shines on the spar compared to the RRP. The RRP sucks for its questionably thin metal but is absolutely silky smooth compared to the Akimbo which one will you buy?

For what it’s worth, anytime you are climbing SRS, you need to make sure your system is in working mode before you begin working. Even on a rope wrench and tether, you need to descend slightly to introduce the proper 180 degree bend via the two 90 degree bends of the rope wrench, to attain a proper setup for working g and descending. That goes for the Rope Runner Pro, as well. The entire purpose of the top sheave and slic pin is to add friction to reduce the load on the lower friction device.

I watched the RRP break test vids and I knew I wanted it. All 3 sections didn’t break under 2500lbs and some held up to 5000lbs. I’ll be a rope runner guy for life I can’t wait to see what they do with it in the future.

I’ve been debating the rrp vs. the ak . Always been a zz and hhx climber. This video has helped to clear the decision. I think I’ll go with the rrp. Really didn’t like that tumble you had with the ak.

I just went from a zz to a rrp and theres nuances I like about each. The rrp is great for srt no contest but when I switch to drt the zig zag is more desirable with it's ability to self feed with one hand. They are minor differences that require getting used to but nothing that makes one vastly superior then the other. How do you like the rrp?(i'm assuming you ended up going that route haha)

I love the akimbo. Gotta say I never had a issue with it. It always bit down while I sat back. With any device if your sitting back without adjusting rope tension it will let you fall until it bites. But.... my coworker is selling me his roperunner pro he only climbed on like 5 times for a good price lol. Can't wait to try it. At this point it's like Pokémon to me lol started on a Blake's hitch, then then went to the zz and chicane. Then picked up a unicender. And just recently got the akimbo and love it! Gona try them all out! The only one is still have mixed emotions about is the unicender.

    - use the Samson Mercury 11mm
    - climbed in huge cottonwood in the cold rainy and some icy weather!! And the RRP was a champ, did not slide on me at all!! I’m impressed!!

If you dedicate an Adrenaline or Xstatic rope to the Akimbo, dont get it wet or sapp on it, its amazing. Thats pretty much bottom line. Once you start jumping ropes with it, don't bother.
Probably the only thing i dont like about my RRP is how hard it is to push down on the bird when you start to descend. I donno if i don't have it adjusted right yet, not broken in yet, (got it 1 month ago, 3 or 4 climbs so far) or if its always like that. It actually hurts my fingers its so hard that i have to wear gloves. Only good thing about that is if a branch hits it probably won't engage it accidentaly. I still like my zig & chic combo best but buying uniscender next...God bless

I have both. I like the akimbo because it’s nice and small. The rope runner pro is too long in your face. The akimbo takes some play time fine running and adjusting. As your rope breaks in you have to redial it in again but once you understand how it works it’s not hard at all. I really like 👍 the akimbo best. Just act like it’s a women and it’s great at time and a pain at times. If the akimbo drops on you. You need to add more friction. Another helpful tip is too record your settings for each ropes your use. Hope this helps.
