Terri Lyne Carrington performs Esperanza Spaulding's 'Crayola' with an Berklee Student Ensemble on April 18, 2012. This video is part of WBUR's Visionaries series, to see more go to www.wbur.org/se....
This is absolutely fantastic. All these cats are playing cool chops over Esperanza's dope Jazz groove "Crayola." Miss Carrington is great on those drums!
I recently came across Terri Lyne Carrington, and I'm simply inspired by her and the abundant talent and technical genius she has, she makes you wanna practise and hibernate until you have dramatically improved LOL she's also an inspiration to black females for various reasons ; being out and proud, being an entrepreneur, practising the 10,000 hour rule... What more can I say?
She was great when I saw her as a kid in Thunder Soul, in videos that had to be from the 70's. I don't think the fact that she's female should be any sort of deciding factor, though...people always go on about her being a great female drummer. Well, you can see she's female, and her name is also pretty obvious. :) I think once we don't need qualifiers such as "female," we'll be a lot more advanced. :) Please note, drumming was originally all female. Female priestesses were drummers: the only ones. It's great to have influences, but what sex they are shouldn't be any deciding factors. Most of my musical influences as drummer or singer are generally male, and there's always shock when I sing tenor/male parts (Steve Perry to start), much less something like Bill Withers.
Ms. Carrington is an inspiration to all drummers. Holy crap, she is absolutely phenomenal.
TLC is one of the best drummers alive today, such a huge inspiration to all.
This woman not only is a professional heavy, she inspires...what a tremendous talent.
Fantastic technique! That was one deep pocket:) A great lesson on control in what looked like a small crowded room. Well done to all involved.
that kid on the bass is playing for his life LOL, this is crisp
